  • This invention relates to footwear for use in playing a ball game.
  • a number of ball games e.g. football and ruby, require the player to control and strike the ball with the foot. It is however well known that the ball may skid off the players footwear, particularly in wet or greasy conditions. The result is that the ball can be difficult to control and, when struck by the players foot, may not travel in the intended direction. It is an object of this invention to obviate or mitigate the abovementioned disadvantages.

  • the accessory is itself preferably shaped so as to have a portion which will substantially cover the upper of the item of footwear, but nevertheless is preferably open soled so as not to interfere with studs or other gripping formations on the sole of the item of footwear.
  • This accessory may however include a relatively narrow inwardly directed projecting portion around its lower peripheral edge adapted to locate and engage on the sole of the item of footwear to assist in holding the accessory in position.
  • the accessory will however mainly be held on the item of footwear by its elastomeric properties allowing it to be stretched over the footwear item before reclining into tight fitting engagement therewith.
