Definitions

  • the present invention relates to modular current limiting devices and to their use in series with a circuit switch or an automatic circuit breaker.
  • patent EP-A-0 030 872 describes a current limiting device comprising a fixed contact carrier element cooperating with a movable contact carrier and which extends perpendicularly to a connection direction defined by two connection means.
  • the contact elements of these contact carriers are arranged near an arc extinguishing structure formed by a plurality of substantially parallel plates spaced from one another. In the closed position, the contact carriers are parallel, while at the opening, which is obtained by rotation of the movable contact carrier, the movable contact tends to move away from the extinguishing structure.
  • This withdrawal movement as well as the absence of means for guiding the arc result in a heterogeneity of the front of the arc which penetrates into the extinguishing structure and leads to instability of the arc voltage. A less good current limitation is therefore obtained.
  • the invention therefore aims to overcome one or more of the drawbacks listed above.
  • the circuit interrupter device comprises at least one pole unit, mounted in an open box which comprises a connection direction defined by first and second connection means, an extinguishing structure d arc composed of a plurality of parallel plates spaced from each other and arranged in the extension of a movable contact arm pivotally mounted in the housing and electrically connected by a conductive means to the first connection element, this contact arm mobile being maintained, by means of a spring, in contact with a first portion of the second connection means, this first portion extending in a direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of connection between the extinguishing structure and the point pivoting of the contact arm and forming, with said arm, a current loop, and a magnetic structure partially surrounding said current loop followed nt an axis parallel to said perpendicular direction.
  • this device is more particularly characterized in that the plates of the extinguishing structure form an angle with respect to said perpendicular direction, in that the said first portion is extended by a second portion forming an angle ⁇ with said first portion, so as to be parallel to the plates of the extinguishing structure, and in that the movable contact arm forms a predetermined angle y with respect to the first portion when the device is in the "closed contact" position.
  • the circuit interrupter device comprises at least one pole unit mounted in an open housing comprising a connection direction defined by first and second connection means, one of which is capable of ensuring the mounting of said device on an apparatus, an arc extinguishing structure arranged in the extension of a pivotally mounted movable contact arm, electrically connected by conductive means to the first connection element and kept in contact with the second connection element connection by a spring.
  • said box comprises means of assembly by interlocking with the bottom of a box of the same type or with a cover, each box having a useful depth X + Y, X being the distance from the bottom of the housing to the plane of symmetry of the connection terminal of one pole of the device and Y the distance from the plane of symmetry to the bottom of the adjacent housing or cover.
  • FIG. 1 represents a three-pole device 14 whose screws of the connection means are arranged at a pitch Q from one another.
  • Each connection terminal is associated with a limiter 8 box 1. This open box fits into the next, from left to right and the last box is closed by a cover 12 of thickness Z.
  • Each box has a useful depth X + Y, X being the distance separating the bottom of the box from the plane of symmetry of the connection terminal of a pole of the device 14 and Y the distance from the plane of symmetry to the bottom of the adjacent box or the cover .
  • FIG. 2 shows another form of assembly, in which a three-pole modular device 13 is associated with three housing / cover assemblies 8, 12, so that the plane of symmetry of the tongues of each limiter coincides with the axis of symmetry screws of the connection terminals of each module of the apparatus 13: each module has a thickness P, Q and the screws being arranged in the plane of symmetry.
  • Figures 3 to 5 and 12 show the limiter 1, mounted in a housing whose useful dimensions in depth are fixed by the relationships listed above.
  • the polar unit comprises an insulating housing 8 of essentially square outline.
  • a fixed contact 3 is mounted in a groove 86 (FIG. 12), provided in a boss 84. This boss serves as a means of centering the modular unit with respect to a connection of a device 13 or 14.
  • This fixed contact 3 penetrates in a direction perpendicular to the lateral face of the housing provided with the boss 84, then comprises a portion 31 folded perpendicularly in a direction parallel to the housing, to finally finish by a portion 32 making an angle with respect to this direction, so as to be parallel to the fins 110 of the extinguishing chamber 11 and to the partition 85 (FIG. 12) of the housing.
  • a contact arm 2 is mounted so as to move between open and closed positions by turning around a pivot pin 5 secured to the housing, this contact arm being constituted by a cut sheet of conductive metal.
  • the contact arm 2 is provided with a hooking spout 21, which cooperates with a torsion spring 4, urging the contact arms 2 in a counterclockwise direction towards the closed position and disposed on a boss 80 or in a form in hollow (Figure 12) of the housing, at a distance (a) from the pivot pin 5.
  • the fulcrum of the end of the spring is at a distance (b) from the pin, so that when the lever pivots by an angle y, the torsional force applied by the spring varies according to a value proportional to ⁇ ⁇ [b / (a + b)].
  • the contact arm makes, when the contact is closed, an angle y with respect to the direction of the fixed contact portion 31 parallel to the flank of the housing 8 provided with the boss 84, and is located in a direction practically orthogonal to the direction of connection, that is to say parallel to the portion 31 when the contact is open.
  • the contact arm 2 ends in a portion 22 in the shape of a horn near the point of contact and forming an angle 8 with a direction parallel to the portion 31. As can be seen in FIGS. 3 to 5, this arm of contact 2 forms a current loop with the portion 31.
  • a cage connection terminal 6, seamless, is mounted in a housing 81 of the housing 8 and clamps the line conductor against a conductor 9 which is housed in a groove 810 and rests on a shoulder 811 ( Figures 3 to 5 and 12).
  • an extended conductor 9 2 bypasses the terminal 6 'and the housing 8, with two folds and, on its end, is crimped the axis 5 of the contact 2.
  • the axis is made of a good conductive material.
  • Figure 5 shows the mounting of the axis 5 in a form provided in the bottom of the housing; it is held on the other side by the end of the piece 9 2 ,
  • the housing is provided with an opening 82 intended for the passage of a line conductor to be connected to terminal 6, and materializes a direction of connection parallel to directions 82 and 3.
  • the housing 8 also has an opening 83 (FIG. 12) for the introduction of a tool intended to act on a connection screw 60 to fix this line conductor in the cage terminal 6.
  • a magnetic device 10 is disposed in a housing provided for this purpose in the housing 8. In order to facilitate its mounting, it consists of one or two thick sheets whose shapes, obtained by folding, allow the part to be surrounded loop formed by the contact arm 2 and the portion 31. These sheets are made of magnetically soft material like iron and can take: either the shape of an "L” or of a "J •; either two L placed head to tail ( Figures 9, 10, 11).
  • these shapes allow a front and separate mounting of the parts, first of the magnetic structure ("L or” J •), then of the contact arm 2 and of the spring, then of the part adaptation and, possibly, the second "L", while keeping the magnetic device functioning properly.
  • one or more insulating parts which isolate the magnetic device 10 from the conductive parts 3, 2, 7, 9 can be provided in certain configurations.
  • the arc structure 11 is placed and maintained by known means in a housing 87.
  • This structure is of a well known type and comprises a series of rectangular plates 110 made of magnetic material.
  • the plates 110 which have a “V” notch, are stacked by being placed face to face, at a certain distance from each other, their notches being aligned so that the end of the contact arm 2 can pass through the 'notch when moving to the open position.
  • These plates are arranged along a plane parallel to the partition 85 (FIG. 12), which forms an angle with the lateral face of the housing 8, provided with the centering boss 84.
  • the housing 8 also includes a channel 88 (FIG. 3) for guiding the hot gases, which originates in the housing of the extinguishing chamber and opens out through an orifice situated below the orifice 82 for introducing the conductor.
  • This channel is provided with a boss 801 serving as a baffle for gases and allowing the passage, through a hole 800, of means for assembling several boxes together or a box with its cover.
  • a second hole 800 is placed in a boss 802 disposed at the corner of the housing, opposite the exhaust channel.
  • the open box 8 with its bottom, the wall 85 and the bottom of the upper box or a cover, forms a channel 134 for evacuating the gases coming from the channel 132 of the device 13 or 14, with which the limiter is mounted in series, as can be seen in FIG. 13.
  • This box 8 has a side wall 804 which forms an angle a with a direction parallel to the direction of the connections.
  • the angle a allows to mount the assembly on the profile, without a part of the limiter 1 abuts against the bottom 16 of the cabinet or the support plate.
  • the magnetic device 10 by channeling this flux as shown in FIGS. 6 to 10, maintains the field of repulsion between the two parts until full opening, and cancels the opposing force which could be created by the contact arm 2 and the connecting conductor between connection and mobile contact.
  • the angular arrangement of the plates 110, of the horn 22 and of the fixed contact 31, 32 promotes good penetration of the electric arc throughout the cooling structure 11.
