Definitions

  • the invention relates to an ultrasonic signature seal comprising in an cylindrical housing an ultrasonic transducer associated axially with a metallic delay line.
  • the cylindrical housing engages in a washer so that the free end of the delay line is visible in the central hole of the washer and gives the main elements of identity.
  • Resins have been observed to be temperature sensitive, which is detrimental to a precise definition of identity and thus reduces the degree of protection against attempted fraud.
  • the main object of the invention is therefore to provide a seal as specified above, which receives its final identity only when the seal is assembled and closed, which makes any subsequent fraudulent manipulation apparent on the seal. as a change of identity.
  • the transducer and the delay line are made integral by bonding and then coated in a resin loaded with non-conductive particles and by a cylindrical housing by turning this resin.
  • this set can be handled and stored without special precautions, and it can be reused several times, each time presenting a different identity.
  • this seal is designed to receive a security or sealing thread.
  • the housing has two zones of different external diameters, the zone of smaller diameter being close to the free end of the delay line and receiving this safety wire. The two strands of the safety wire pass between the washer and the housing.
  • the free end of the delay line spherical and convex and to mark this spherical surface, which gives the main elements of the 'identity.
  • the spherical shape ensures a focusing effect of the waves reflected on this surface.
  • Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section through a seal according to the invention.
  • Fig. 2 shows the same seal in orthogonal partial section along a line II-II of FIG. 1.
  • an ultrasonic transducer (5 MHz) 1, which is provided with an electrical contact 2 serving on the one hand for the transmission of an electrical excitation pulse towards the transducer in emission and on the other hand for the transmission of a response signal to an amplifier (not shown) in reception.
  • the transducer 1 is attached to a delay line 3 made of aluminum, the free end 4 of which is visible through a hole 5 in a washer 6.
  • This delay line namely a zone of square section close to the transducer 1, a cylindrical zone, which fits into the cylindrical part of the holes 5, and an external zone of frustoconical shape and of increasing diameter towards the outside.
  • the hole 5 of the washer 6 itself comprises said cylindrical part and a part of frustoconical shape, but of a diameter such that there remains a conical slot between the end of the delay line 3 and the washer 6.
  • This slot is filled at the end of assembly by an annular rivet 7 of annealed aluminum, which is force-fitted.
  • the transducer 1, its contract 2 and the interior zone of the delay line 3 are coated with a resin 8 loaded with non-conductive powder and contained in a cylindrical casing 9, which has a zone of smaller diameter close to the free end of the delay line.
  • the washer 6 has for its part an edge of outside and inside diameters similar to the outside and inside diameters of the housing hor of said zone.
  • a safety wire 10 passes before assembly between the edge of the washer 6 and the housing 9 on either side of the delay line. When sealing it is deformed as shown in the figures.
  • the response of the seal to an ultrasonic pulse depends on the one hand on the more or less reproducible shape of the delay line and on the other hand on the random marking, which is practiced on the spherical surface of the end 4 of the line to delay.
  • This marking and the streaks originating from the forced insertion of the rivet 7 into the slot constitute the ultrasonic identity of the seal.
  • the wave emitted by the transducer 1 is reflected in various modes (surface waves and transverse waves), which ensures uniqueness of identity.
  • various modes surface waves and transverse waves
  • These peaks depend mainly on the marking of the outer surface of the end 4, because the reflections on this surface are detected by the transducer in priority.
  • the invention is not limited to the embodiment cited above.
  • the seal can be adapted in the context of the invention to a wireless security use, in which the washer 6 is an integral part of the object to be protected.
  • the transducer is excited by an electric pulse and then the analog signal of response of the transducer is compared with a preset analog signal.
  • the analog signal of response of the transducer is compared with a preset analog signal.
