  • Rotation of the valve element 150 in the direction indicated by the arrow 198 will tend to open the passageway 153 allowing a by-pass flow therethrough and reducing the volume of liquid flow through the heat exchanger 18.
  • the initial rotation of the valve element 150 will produce a relatively gradual change in liquid flow through the heat exchanger. However, between about 30 o and about 60 o of rotation of the valve element 150 the volume of liquid flow through the heat exchanger 18 will change rapidly. Thereafter, continued rotation of the valve element 150 will produce a decreasing change in the volume of liquid flow through the heat exchanger 18.

  • the liner 222 provides for the conduction of liquid about the temperature source 56 in heat exchange relation thereto.

  • the panels are dimensioned to extend over the sides and bottoms of the depressions in the bodies 216 and 217 which form the cavity 218.
  • the panels are heat sealed to each other along their sides and also along their ends and have sufficient length to provide mounting tabs 224 at their ends.
  • the panels are also heat sealed to each other along a narrow central portion 226 of their length extending from the first sealed end thereof to a point spaced from the second sealed end thereof to provide a generally U-shaped liquid passageway between the two panels.
  • An inlet elbow coupling 228 is sealed through an opening in one of the panels adjacent the first sealed end thereof and into communication with one leg of the U-shaped liquid passageway.
  • an outlet elbow coupling 229 is sealed through an opening in such panel at the first end thereof and into communication with the other leg of the U-shaped passageway.
  • a quick disconnect coupling 232 mounted on the case 210 communicates with the inlet elbow 228 through an appropriate conduit 234.
  • a second quick disconnect coupling 233 mounted on the case 210 communicates with the outlet elbow 229 through an appropriate conduit 235.
  • liquid from the third quick disconnect coupling 48 of the control display unit 20 may be conducted to the quick disconnect coupling 232 and circulated through the bladder 222, exiting from the quick disconnect coupling 233 for conduction back to the fourth quick disconnect coupling 52 of the control display unit 20.
  • Such liquid will be under pressure provided by the pump 26 thereby forcing the bladder 222 into intimate contact with the can 220 of frozen liquid to provide for heat exchange therewith. It has been found to be unnecessary to provide more than one channel for liquid flow in the bladder 222 thus enabling the use of a simple bladder as described hereinabove.
  • male snap type coupling elements 236 project from the bottom or back of the case 210 to enable the heat exchanger 18 to be removably mounted on the support panel 120 of the support harness 16.
  • the male elements 236 cooperate with the second array of fasteners 122 on the support panel 120 to enable heat exchanger 18 to be carried on the support harness 16 as shown in FIG. 1C.
  • a similar arrangement may be used to enable the heat exchanger 18 to be carried on a belt as shown in FIG. 1D.
  • heat exchanger 18 is to be hand-carried for mounting on a fixed support bracket 23 as shown in FIG. 1E, or where a fixed control display unit 20' is mounted on an immobile heat exchanger 58 as shown in FIG. 1F, it is desirable to provide an automatic quick disconnect coupling 24 as shown in FIGS. 1E and 1F.

Claims (6)

  1. Dispositif de régulation de température du corps humain, propre à être porté sur le corps de l'utilisateur et comprenant :
    - un premier échangeur de chaleur (10) réalisé sous la forme d'un vêtement comportant un casque (12) et un gilet séparé (14) propres à être portés par un utilisateur et reliés par un conduit de fluide, le casque (12) et le gilet (14) comprenant chacun un corps en matériau thermoconducteur présentant un passage allongé étanche aux fluides, destinés à éloigner par conduction la chaleur de la tête et du torse de l'utilisateur lorsque celui-ci les porte suivant une relation de conduction de chaleur ;
    - un second échangeur de chaleur portatif (18, 58) comportant des moyens pour recevoir une source de refroidissement (56) et comprenant un corps en matériau thermoconducteur présentant un passage allongé étanche aux fluides, placé de manière à être en relation de conduction de chaleur avec la source de refroidissement (56) ;
    - un premier tuyau d'agent de refroidissement en forme de boucle dans lequel est situé le vêtement constituant le premier échangeur de chaleur (10) et qui comprend des conduites de sortie (67, 76), venant du vêtement constituant le premier échangeur de chaleur (10) et des conduites d'entrée (68, 72) allant en direction du vêtement constituant l'échangeur de chaleur (10), et un dispositif de dérivation s'étendant entre les conduites de sortie et d'entrée, le casque (12) étant placé en amont du gilet (14) dans le vêtement constituant le premier échangeur de chaleur (10) de manière que l'agent de refroidissement arrivant dans le vêtement (10) à partir des conduites d'entrée (68, 72) soit tout d'abord dirigé vers le casque (12) et circule à travers une série de canaux du casque (12), où il se trouve quelque peu chauffé par l'échange de chaleur qui se produit dans le casque (12) avant de circuler dans le gilet (14), de telle manière que la différence de température entre l'agent de refroidissement et le corps humain est plus faible dans le gilet (14) que dans le casque (12) ;
    - une pompe (26) placée dans le premier tuyau en forme de boucle étant inserré dans les conduites de sortie (67, 76) ou dans les conduites d'entrée (68, 72) et entre le vêtement constituant le premier échangeur de chaleur (10) et le dispositif de dérivation, ladite pompe étant prévue pour pomper le liquide de refroidissement dans le vêtement constituant le premier échangeur de chaleur (10) depuis les conduites d'entrée (68, 72) vers les conduites de sortie (67, 76) ;
    - un réservoir de liquide de refroidissement (28) comportant une entrée et une sortie, placé dans la première boucle contenant un liquide de refroidissement ;
    - une seconde boucle de tuyaux d'agent de refroidissement disposée dans le second échangeur de chaleur et comprenant ledit dispositif de dérivation ; et
    - une vanne réglable (50) de débit branchée au dispositif de dérivation pour permettre le réglage de la proportion de liquide de refroidissement circulant à partir des conduites de sortie (67, 76) à travers (a) la seconde boucle et (b) le dispositif de dérivation, ladite vanne étant réglable de manière que n'importe quel débit de liquide de refroidissement (de 0 au maximum puisse être dirigé dans le dispositif de dérivation, le reste du liquide, le cas échéant, étant dirigé dans la seconde boucle de manière que le réglage de la vanne réglable permette de réguler la mesure dans laquelle le liquide de refroissement réchauffé dans le vêtement constituant le premier échangeur de chaleur (10) est refroidi dans le second échangeur de chaleur (18, 56) pour retourner vers le vêtement constituant le premier échangeur de chaleur (10).
  2. Dispositif de régulation de température suivant la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que le gilet (14) comprend une série de canaux d'échange de chaleur disposés d'une manière générale horizontalement et reliés de telle manière que l'agent de refroidissement arrivant dans le gilet (14) est d'abord dirigé vers ses parties supérieures et se déplace ensuite progressivement vers le bas en passant par les canaux d'échange de chaleur et enfin dans les parties inférieures du gilet (14), de telle manière que la différence de température entre l'agent de refroidissement et le corps humain soit inférieure dans les parties basses du gilet (14) à celle des parties supérieures du gilet (14), ce qui permet d'éviter une vasoconstriction et améliore le confort de l'utilisateur.
  3. Dispositif de régulation de température suivant la revendication 1, comprenant en outre un limiteur de débit (44) disposé dans les conduites de sortie (67, 76), placé de manière à maintenir une pression plus élevée dans l'agent de refroidissement dans le vêtement constituant le premier échangeur de chaleur (10) que dans le second échangeur de chaleur (18, 58).
  4. Dispositif de régulation de température suivant la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce qu'il est hermétique et en ce que le réservoir (28) de liquide de refroidissement comprend un conteneur creux étanche et d'une matière souple, avec une épaisseur de paroi choisie pour assurer la flexion du conteneur sous l'effet de la dilatation ou de la contraction lorsque celui-ci est soumis à une différence de pressions internes et externes d'environ 0,14 bar (deux livres par pouce carré), ce qui permet d'éviter la mise à l'air libre.
  5. Dispositif de régulation de température suivant la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que le second échangeur de chaleur (18) comprend deux éléments réalisés en matière thermo-isolante, chacun d'eux comportant une empreinte centrale, lesdits éléments et leurs empreintes étant propres à coopérer pour définir une cavité dimensionnée pour recevoir avec jeu une source thermique (56) appropriée et un revêtement intercalé entre la surface interne de ladite cavité et ladite source thermique (56) choisie située dans la cavité, ledit revêtement comprenant deux feuilles superposées de matière plastique dimensionnées de manière à recouvrir la surface interne de ladite cavité, les feuilles étant soudées l'une à l'autre le long de leurs côtés et de leurs extrémités et le long d'une étroite partie centrale s'étendant de l'une des extrémités fermées jusqu'à un point espacé de l'autre des extrémités fermées pour constituer ledit pasage allongé étanche dudit second échangeur de chaleur (18) de manière que ce dernier soit ainsi léger et de fonctionnement efficace, afin que le dispositif de régulation de température soit portatif.
  6. Dispositif de régulation de température suivant la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que la source de refroidissement (56) est de la glace.
