Bei abgenommener Abdeckplatte 30 wird ein Zugang zur hohlen Tragsäule geschaffen, über den Zuleitungen hoch- und herausgeführt werden können. Die Ablageplatte 27 ist um eine vertikale Achse 26 an der Tragsäule drehbar, so daß sie auch über das Bett eingeschwenkt werden kann, wie die Stellung mit den Bezugszeichen 271 und 281 erkennen läßt. Außerdem kann die Ablageplatte 27 zwischen dem Kopfende und dem Fußende des Bettgestelles 10 beliebig verstellt werden, wie ebenfalls in Fig. 2 angedeutet ist. Dabei kann die Ablageplatte 27 verschiedene Höhen zur Standfläche einnehmen, wie Fig. 1 zeigt.Das Teil 25 der Tragsäule kann dabei kontinuierlich aus dem Teil 24 herausgezogen und mittels einer an sich bekannten Arretierungseinrichtung in jeder beliebigen Auszugsstellung festgelegt werden. Es ist jedoch auch denkbar, daß das Teil 25 der Tragsäule nur in die Auszugsendstellung ausgezogen werden kann und in dieser mittels einer an sich bekannten Rasteinrichtung festgelegt werden kann. Dabei wird eine selbsttätig einrastende Rasteinrichtung bevorzugt, die mittels eines manuell betätigbaren Auslösegliedes auslösbar ist. Ist die Ablageplatte 27 fest mit dem oberen Ende des Teils 25 der Tragsäule verbunden, dann kann das Teil 25 zusammen mit der Ablageplatte 27 um die vertikale Achse 26 verschwenkt werden.
