10. Apparatus according to one of claims 1 to 9, characterised in that it comprises means for carrying out scavenging with a chosen gas of the area situated between the crucible (7) and the edge (5') serving it as a seating surface.
11. Apparatus according to claim 10, characterised in that the said means able to carry out scavenging with a chosen gas comprise an annular groove (21) provided in the edge (5'), preferably in the vicinity of the periphery of the seating surface and connected to a source of the chosen gas.
