Definitions
- the present invention relates to devices, called “pistols", of artificial insemination with a single dose for animals such as poultry, and more particularly turkeys, of the type comprising, on the one hand, an elongated body having an axial duct at the end before which the end of an insemination tube can penetrate and be held, and in which a tube ejection rod is slidably mounted, secured to an external operating member, and, on the other hand, a compressible casing connected by a discharge passage to said front end of the axial duct of the body.
- the insemination tube is intended to receive a dose of animal semen, either using a special filling machine, in which case this filling takes place before this tube is mounted on the gun , or using additional suction means provided on the gun itself, in which case this filling by suction is carried out once the tube mounted on the gun.
- the inseminator introduces the tube into the animal's cloaca by pushing it using the pistol into the optimal desired position, as a result of which it compresses the envelope, which is filled with air, so that this air, driven back by the intended passage, repels the semen under a pressure strong enough for it to reach the level of the utero-glands. vaginal, thus ensuring insemination in the best conditions.
- the shape of the pistol being essentially cylindrical and oriented along the axis of the glitter, the maneuver is not always easy, at least for some of the inseminators, all the more so as, for the proper insemination said the crushing of the compressible envelope requires a position of the hand very far back on the body of the gun.
- the mechanism is relatively complex, due, in part, to the presence of the special suction members, thus leading to increased risks of fouling and notable maintenance difficulties.
- the present invention therefore aims to provide a device of the type considered, whose operation is easy and the manufacture and maintenance simplified.
- the invention relates to an artificial insemination device, of the type comprising, on the one hand, an elongated body having an axial duct at the front end of which can penetrate and be held the end of a insemination tube containing semen, and in which is slidably mounted a tube ejection rod, secured to an external operating member, and, on the other hand, an air reserve connected by a delivery passage at said front end of the axial duct of the body,
- the tube ejection rod has at least one longitudinal flat defining with the internal wall of the axial duct of the body at least one longitudinal channel extending from the the front end of the duct from the body to the rear part of said body, so that the channel is in communication with the air reserve.
- the pistol comprises a gripping part in the form of a pistol butt, integral with the body and arranged transversely with respect to the axial duct thereof, while the compressible casing is arranged on the front of this stick, on the side of the insemination tube.
- the inseminator can very easily and firmly grip the pistol by its butt-shaped part and snap the front end of the axial duct of the body onto the end of the flake by a simple pushing movement, this flake being, in general, kept available by a distributor or even by the filling machine itself, as described in French patent application FR-A No 2500296.
- the inseminator introduces it into the animal's cloaca by pushing the pistol again using the butt, which also serves to orient the glitter or to make it follow the sinuosities of the utero-vaginal duct, following which a firm pressure of the fingers on the compressible envelope placed in front of the stick allows the energetic ejection of the semen.
- the inseminator must then not release its pressure on the envelope, so as not to risk sucking up the dose that it has just deposited, until it has removed the straw from the cloaca.
- a simple gesture of the thumb on the actuator of the ejection rod, fixed on the body, allows the separation of the straw and a new complete cycle of operations.
- the gun body containing the air delivery passage and the ejection rod of the tube, has a cylindrical rear part which is slidably mounted in a cylindrical opening provided at the upper end of the stick and with which are associated locking means in position.
- the upper part of the stick protrudes forward relative to its grip part proper and has a connecting conduit projecting downwards, on which the orifice of the compressible envelope is fixed and which leads, moreover, into the discharge passage.
- this connecting conduit is constituted by an attached tube, engaged over a part of its length in an opening made in the upper part of the stick and opening into the opening of the stick which receives the body.
- the different parts are mounted one inside the other thanks to simple cylindrical openings which are very easy to clean, and disassembly is also extremely simple, the means for blocking the body in the stock being , for example, constituted by a simple screw, while the casing snaps onto the connecting tube and the latter in the butt.
- the operating member of the ejection rod is constituted by a pusher fixed on the rear end of this rod and projecting from the rear of the body. This arrangement particularly promotes ejection by simple movement of the thumb on the rear of the pistol.
- the gun shown comprises, on the one hand, a cylindrical body 1 in the form of a barrel and, on the other hand, a transverse stock 2 at the front of which is an air envelope 3.
- the body or barrel 1 is constituted by a solid part, at the rear of which is formed a cylindrical recess 4, and which is traversed over all the rest of its length and along its axis XX by a guide duct 5.
- a l inside this conduit 5, is slidably mounted an ejection rod 6 which extends over the entire length of this conduit, with the exception of a relatively short front part 5a, as well as through the entire recess 4, so as to project outside of it, to carry, fixed on it, a cylindrical sleeve 7 which has a rounded semi-spherical head 7a forming a pusher.
- the sleeve 7 also has a collar 7b which is slidably mounted in the recess 4 and behind which engage the two arms of a stirrup-shaped part 8 which pass through parallel transverse conduits formed in the butt 2.
- a return spring 9 is finally disposed between the bottom of the recess 4 and the sleeve 7 in order to bring the latter back to the rear position bearing on the stirrup 8.
- the grip-shaped piece 2 has a grip part proper adapted to the shape of the hand and which extends upwards by an upper part 2a in which is formed a through cylindrical opening 11 in which is engaged the part cylindrical rear of the body 1, this part of the body being held there by means of a locking screw 12 passing radially through the upper part 2a of the stick.
- the rear face of the body 1 stops in withdrawal with respect to the rear face 2b of the upper part 2a of the stick, so that the stirrup 8 can pass behind this body to maintain the flange 7b of the sleeve 7.
- the base of the stirrup 8 rests, moreover, on the upper face of this part 2a of the stick.
- This same upper part 2a of the stick protrudes forward with respect to the main part 2 and a conduit 13 is formed in this protruding part, downwards, so as to receive a tube 14 which protrudes out of it. leads downwards so as to penetrate into the orifice 3a which the casing 3 presents.
- the latter is in the form of an elongated pear made of a compressible elastic material such as rubber. It rests by its lateral surface against the front face of the main part 2 of the stick, extending over the greater part of the height of the latter.
- the conduit 13 is formed in the upper part 2a of the butt slightly in front of the recess 4 of the body 1, so that the end of the tube 14 can also penetrate into a connecting passage 15 formed radially in the body 1 and opening into the axial duct 5 of the latter. From the location of this conduit 15, two delivery passages are formed between the conduit 5 and the rod 6 to the front end of the latter, these passages being delimited by two parallel flats 16 formed in the thickness of the rod 6 at diametrically opposite locations.
- the passages 17 thus delimited communicate the passage 15, and consequently the tube 14 and the casing 3, with the front end 5a of the conduit 5 and, consequently, with the interior of the straw 10 which is fixed to it.
- a seal is provided around the rod 6 and behind the duct 15 to avoid an escape of the air from the envelope 3 in the direction of the recess 4.
- the gun shown in fig. 3 has an important part of its mechanism identical to that of the previous embodiment and this is the reason why the entire upper part of this gun is shown in external view.
- the main part of the stick has a fairly deep slot, extending both over the rear at 18a and at its lower end at 18b.
- a lever Inside this double slot, is housed a lever with two arms 19 which is articulated in 19a between the two lateral flanges that define the slots 18a and 18b, one of the arms 19b, of great length, extending through the slot 18a so that its end is placed behind the push-flange 7a of the sleeve 7, while its other arm 19c, shorter, is housed in the lower slot 18.
- stirrup 20 is articulated transversely at 20a by its upper end on the butt 2, while at its lower end, a transverse rod 20b is provided which passes, moreover, two slots 21 formed in the lower flanges of the butt, following an arc centered on the joint 20a.
- stirrup 20 In the normal position, that is to say the casing 3 being normally filled and not crushed, the stirrup 20 extends approximately vertically on the stick, and the transverse rod 20b remains placed in front of the slots 21, in front of a spout 19d formed at the end of the lower arm 19c of the lever and directed upwards. Finally, a return spring 22 is provided which is disposed between the bottom of the slot 18a and the elongated arm 19b of the lever.
- the artificial insemination device or pistol comprises a barrel 1 similar to that visible in FIG. 1, this barrel however having the particularity here of comprising a flange 23 situated in the vicinity of its rear part and two O-rings 24, 25, delimiting between them an annular space 26 into which opens a radial orifice 27 passing through the barrel 1.
- a connector 28 in the form of a sleeve, this connector being positioned on the two O-rings 24 and 25 and which ensure its sealing.
- This connector comprises a threaded end piece 29 crossed by an orifice 30, the latter opening into the annular space 26 of the barrel and being oriented so as to be opposite the orifice 27.
- the threaded end piece 29 is connected by screwing to a fitting 31, itself coupled to a source of weakly compressed air.
- This connector 31 contains, in known manner, a valve (not shown) controlled from the outside by a push button 33 controlled by a trigger 34.
- the gun is of the linear type and operates in the manner of a bicycle pump.
- the barrel 1 has on its rear part a double annular flange 35, 36 delimiting between them an annular housing 37, in which is embedded a lip seal 38 ensuring the seal between the barrel body and a shell 39 in form of cap mounted to move axially in alternative translation relative to said barrel, this shell defining with a recess 40, formed in the rear face of the barrel, a chamber 41 for air accumulation.
- This hull iIIe 39 is permanently biased towards the rear, that is to say in a direction opposite to the straw 10 by a spiral spring 42, bearing on the bottom of the recess 40 and against the internal front face 39, shell 39.
- the seal 38 comprises a flexible lip 38, slightly inclined towards the outside in the direction of the peripheral internal wall 39 2 of the shell 39, this lip being directed in the direction of the thrust of the spring 42 (arrow F), so that , during the translational movement of the shell 39 in the direction of the straw 10, the lip 38 of the seal 38 is applied with sealing against the internal wall 39 2 , whereas, when the shell returns to its initial position by sliding opposite direction (arrow F), this lip 38, fades radially inward to allow the passage and introduction into the chamber 41 of the outside air by an annular gap 43 formed between the collar 35 of the barrel and the inner wall 39 z of the shell.
- the retraction of the shell 39 in the direction of the arrow F allows the pistol to be cocked by introducing and accumulating air in the chamber 41, while the displacement of this same shell in the opposite direction ensures the transfer of this air contained in the chamber 41 in the straw 10 by passing through the axial passages 17 defined by the flats 16 produced on the ejection rod 6.
- This ejection rod 6 is fixed, by its rear part 6 1 , in an internal boss 44 of the shell and is guided over its entire length in the duct 5 of the barrel.
- the sequin 10 can have, at at least one of its ends, a hem 45 and, if necessary, this hem can be repeated at the other opposite end.
- a stirrup 46 secures the barrel to the shell 39, this stirrup having its two arms bearing on the annular flange 35 of the barrel in order to avoid expulsion of the shell 39.
- the travel in translation of the shell 39 corresponds to the stroke of the ejection rod 6 which is integral with it, the stroke of which itself is limited by the stop on the front end face of this rod with the rear end of the insemination tube.
- the contact between the rod and the tube is sufficient to be perceived by the hand of the operator who, when he meets this resistance, understands that the insemination operation is finished, and can then extract the tube from the cesspool animal in order to continue pushing on the shell 39 in the direction of the tube so that the ejection rod 6 causes its expulsion from the nose of the body 1.
