Description

The invention relates to a push button switch according to the preamble of claim 1.

In a known push button switch of this type (FR-A-2 400 820), a contact carrier with contacts is provided, on which a spacer film with recesses adapted to the contacts rests. A film of elastic, electrically insulating material runs parallel to the spacer film and is provided with a counter contact in the region of each contact. The film is provided on one side with an elastic metal covering and has punched-out tabs which, as movable counter-contacts, face the contacts on the contact carrier and are permanently bent at an acute angle at their base in relation to the plane of the film. The metal covering is on the side of the film after which the tabs are bent. The tabs thus incline towards the contact carrier. In order to ensure a sufficient distance between the contacts and the counter-contacts formed by the metal layer, the interposed spacer foil must be as thick as is dictated by the required contact spacing and the height by which the tabs protrude from the plane of the foil. As a result, the overall height of the pushbutton switch is increased accordingly and to actuate the tabs which are recessed in the film, correspondingly long switching plungers are required, for which a corresponding mechanical guidance is also necessary. The electrical metal covering also serves to generate a sufficient restoring force of the tabs.

A pushbutton switch is also known (IBM Technical Disclosure Bulletin, Vol. 16 No. 3August 1973, page 954), which has cup-like actuating elements in a cover film. A projection is provided centrally within the cup-shaped actuating element, which sits on a snap element and thereby bridges the free space between the actuating surface of the actuating element and the snap element. The snap element is designed as a bracket or dome and rests on contact pieces in the outer region. In the central, bulging area there is a counter-contact piece in the plane of the first-mentioned contact pieces, against which the snap element snaps when the actuating element is pressed. For the construction of a switch of this type, individual snap elements and contact pieces must be provided, for which appropriate mechanical brackets and centering are required to ensure their mutual assignment.

The invention has for its object to take measures in a key switch according to the preamble of claim 1, which results in a small footprint.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the characterizing features of claim 1.

In one embodiment of a push button switch according to the invention, the inner free space enclosed by the dome is used for accommodating the tab bent upwards. A spacer film arranged between the film and the contact carrier can then be made so thin that only an electrical separation between conductor tracks on the contact carrier and the film is achieved or this spacer film can also be omitted if there is no mutual contact between the contact paths of the contact carrier and the film can occur because the required distance between the associated contact on the contact carrier and the mating contact on the film is established by the tab inclined away from the contact carrier. The free switching stroke of the dome, which is predetermined by the height of the space enclosed by the dome, can thus be used for depressing the tab towards the counter contact. The dome forms a self-contained actuating element that does not require special guidance.

Further advantageous refinements of the invention are specified in the further claims.

The invention is explained below with reference to drawings of exemplary embodiments.

It shows
  • Fig. 1 shows a cross section through a key switch arrangement with raised tab and
  • Fig. 2 is a plan view of the film provided with the tabs.

Contacts 2 arranged in pairs are located on a contact carrier 1 and can be connected to external connections via connecting lines (not shown). Above the contact carrier 1 there is a film 3 made of elastic material, from which 2 tabs 4 are punched out in the area of the contacts. In the area of the free ends of the tabs 4 there are mating contacts 5, with which the respectively assigned contact pairs 2 can be bridged by pressing down the tabs 4. However, it is also possible to connect the mating contacts 5 to external connections via conductor tracks on the film 3. On the film 3, which consists of electrically insulating plastic, there is a cover film 6, in which dome-shaped actuating elements 7 are molded. The actuating elements 7 are each assigned to a tab 4 and have a web 8 which extends from the edge of a round opening 9 encompassing the tab 4 in the cover sheet 6 covering the sheet 3 and is pulled up over the level of the cover sheet 6 and the tab 4 spreads. The web 8 is pivotally attached above the foot 10 of the tab 4 connected to the film 3, the part of the web 8 overlapping the tab 4 being actuated surface 11 serves. The web 8 is connected via a conical support skin 12 to the rest of the opening 9. The support skin 12 brings about a dustproof and watertight closure in the region of the actuating element 7 and, particularly when the actuating element 7 is pressed down, causes a snap effect, as a result of which the contacts 2, 5 are switched to torque.

In one configuration of the pushbutton switch according to the figures, the film 3 made of insulating material lies directly on the contact carrier 1. In order to prevent contact of the contacts 2 with the mating contact 5, the tabs 4 are bent at their base 10 relative to the plane of the film 3 by permanent deformation at an acute angle so that the mating contacts 5 are lifted in an oblique position relative to the contacts 2 are. As a result, a spacer film between the film 3 and the contact carrier 1 can be omitted, so that their manufacturing and assembly costs can be saved. In order to ensure the inclination of the tabs 4, small bumps can also be provided on the contact carrier 1 in the area of the foot of each tab, which lifts the tab from the contacts 2 in the unactuated state. The tab 4 engages in the dome of the actuating element 7, so that the path required for the switching stroke can also be used as a distance for the switching distance between the contacts 2 and the counter-contact 5. This means that no additional space is required.

A spacer film can be used between the film 3 and the contact carrier 1, which has cutouts in the area of the contacts 2, 5. As a result, a necessary distance between the contacts 2 and the counter contacts 5 can be ensured. By depressing the actuating surface 11, which has an actuating nose 15 on its inside, the tab 4 is pressed against the assigned contacts 2 in the manner of a snap switch by the snap action of the dome-shaped actuating element 7 via the actuating nose 15. Due to the inherent elasticity of the film 3, the tab 4 then swings back into its initial position after the actuating element 7 is released.
