Abstract

An electrical insulator component comprises a one-piece block of moulded fins (11, 12, 13) disposed around an insulating core (10). The surface of the block of fins includes a moulding line (21, 22, 23) and said moulding line has arcuately displaced segments in that the portion 22 extends circumferentially while the portions 21 and 23 extend longitudinally but in different planes. The net result is that dirt building up along the join line does not form a continuous straight-line low resistance path for leakage currents.

Description

The present invention relates to an electrical insulating element comprising a one-piece group of insulating fins.

An insulating element according to the invention comprises an insulating central core, which may be a composite rod made of glass or synthetic fibers belonging to an electrical insulator; it can also be a support such as a cable end of the high-voltage cable type, bushing, or insulator tube for breaking chamber. This central core is generally protected by a waterproof elastomer coating formed by a sheath and / or fins. According to a first known embodiment, independent fins are threaded onto the central core previously sheathed, then glued end to end; these fins can also be molded successively by displacement of the mold along said central core.

According to a second known embodiment, all of the fins are molded simultaneously around said central core. In this case, it is necessary that the mold is present at least in two parts which meet so as to define a "joint plane" passing through the axis of the insulating element. As a result, there appears on all the fins a trace which will be called "molding joint" corresponding to the trace of the axial "joint plane". This trace therefore forms a continuous line from one end to the other of the insulating element and, by favoring the attachment of polluting deposits, causes the appearance of large leakage currents and risks of degradation.

The present invention aims to overcome these drawbacks; it relates to an electrical insulating element comprising a monobloc group of molded fins surrounding an insulating core, characterized in that the surface of the block of fins has, between the edges of the two end fins, a discontinuous molding joint.

According to one embodiment, the molding joint has a discontinuity at the edge of at least one of the intermediate fins. This discontinuity can correspond, for example, to an offset of the joint along an arc of about 90 ° along the edge of the fin concerned.

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear during the following description of an embodiment which will be made using the appended drawing given by way of illustration but in no way limiting and in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a partial view in elevation of a composite insulator according to the invention,
  • - Figure 2 shows a partial elevational view of part of the insulator of Figure 1.

We see in Figure 1 a composite insulator 1, having two end fittings 2 and 3 and an insulating element consisting of an insulating rod 10 (see Figure 2) protected by a monoblock group of fins which have been referenced extreme fins 4, 5 and intermediate fins 6, 7 (Figure 1) and 11, 12, 13 (Figure 2).

The insulating assembly is of revolution about an axis 20. It can be seen in FIG. 2 that the molding joint follows a line 21 on the lower surface of the fin 11, the intermediate sleeve between the fins 11 and 12, and the upper part of the fin 12 to its edge 12. The seal undergoes a discontinuity at this level and follows a line 23, situated in the plane of the figure, on the lower surface of the fin 12, the intermediate sleeve between the fins 12 and 13, and the fin 13. We see the line 23 'symmetrical with the line 23 with respect to a plane, orthogonal to the plane of the figure; the symmetrical line of line 21 is not visible in the figure.

To produce such a set of fins, several partial molds are used, each formed from two half-shells. The axial joint planes of two adjacent partial molds are offset from one another so as to achieve the desired discontinuity, at the desired angle (90 ° is only an example).

Of course, the molding joint may have several discontinuities between the edges of the two end fins 4 and 5.

According to an embodiment not shown, at least one discontinuity can appear on the surface of the sleeves located between two fins.

The invention applies to all forms of fins, the underside of a fin may be planar, have a draft, or an undercut.

The name "lower" is arbitrary and corresponds to the arrangement of the insulator as it appears in the drawing).

The fins can be made of a material chosen from EPDM (Ethylene - Propylene - Diene - Monomer), silicones, polyurethanes, or any other insulating elastomer, epoxides or the like.

In all cases, the structure of an insulating element according to the invention reduces the risk of a preferential path of the leakage current along the molding joint.

As we saw above, the composite electrical insulator is only one example of application.
