Wie die Fig. 2 außerdem erkennen läßt, liegen zwischen den einzelnen Sprüngen gleich lange Pausen, so daß. sich innerhalb einer Rapportlänge für drei verschiedenartige Florbänder eine Verteilung der verschiedenen Arten von jeweils einem Drittel ergibt.In the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 2, the band store 1, 2 contains three different types of fiber bands. Claims (6)

1. Method of producing rovings with an appearance varying in colour and/or structure or the like from one longitudinal section to the other, from a fibre web which has various colours and/or structures and which is transferred on to the shell of a rotating pick-up drum fitted with holding elements, especially an array of small hooks, in the form of a plurality of web bands which are guided especially closely adjacent one another and which differ from one another in coulour, structure or the like, and, at a place offset in the peripheral direction relatively to the transfer place, is divided and taken of in web bands with an appearance varying from one longitudinal section to another, and the sectionwise varying appearance is imparted to the web bands by providing a relative transverse movement between the web on the drum shell and the web bands either at the transfer of the web bands to or the taking-off of the web bands from the drum shell at least by the amount of the lateral offset of neighbouring web bands, characterised in that the transverse movement is effected suddenly, and its amplitude amounts exactly to the amount of or a multiple of the lateral offset of web bands guided adjacent one another, and that after a transverse movement in the one and/or other direction the further transfer or take-off of the web bands is effected without transverse movement for a specific section length of the web bands.
2. Method according to claim 1, characterised in that the sums of the similar length sections of each taken-off web band over a predeterminable web band length (repeat) are identical.
3. Method according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the length sections with varying appearance of each taken-off web band vary in length irregularly.
4. Apparatus for carrying out the method according to claim 1, comprising a storage system accommodating a plurality of sliver elements differing in coulour and/or structure or the like, a parallel feed arrangement with which sliver elements are transferrable from the storage system on to the shell of a rotating pick-up drum fitted with retaining or holding elements especially an array of small hooks, and a web divider which is situated downstream of the pick-up drum and with which the web can be divided into bands on the drum shell and taken off, and the pick-up drum on the one hand or the parallel feed arrangement or the web divider on the other hand are movable to and fro in the transverse direction relatively to one another by means of a drive, characterised in that the amplitude of the transverse movement amounts exactly to the amount of or a multiple of the lateral offset of neighbouring bands, and the drive (11) is changeable rapidly from one rest position to another rest position in the manner of a switching mechanism, at least two rest positions being provided, and the lengths of the pauses in the individual rest positions being adjustable.
5. Apparatus according to claim 4, characterised in that the drive (11) comprises a stepping motor.
6. Apparatus according to claim 4, characterised in that the drive (11) is a piston-and-cylinder arrangement which is adjustable stepwise.
