Abstract
Description
- The invention relates to a plastic container having a bottom and upright walls as well as at least one hollow corner column, said corner column having a rounded inner wall and a rounded outer wall carrying reinforcing ribs which are substantially diametrically opposed to one another and which run approximately perpendicular to the tangent at the corner transitions and joining walls connecting said rounded inner wall and said rounded outer wall. Such a container is known from LU-A-72256. Besides the reinforcing ribs which run approximately perpendicular to the tangent at the corner transitions, further reinforcing ribs opposite each other are provided on the inner sides of the outer wall portion and of the inner wall portion.
- If the outer walls of such a container are not exactly under a container stacked upon this container forces will be transferred partially through the joining walls and the inner wall so that in the case of a rather thin inner wall this inner wall is easily deformed and thus a very unstable stack is formed. Additional ribs on the inner wall will not contribute to any improvement and are merely waste of material.
- It is now the aim of the invention to provide a container which does not present this disadvantage.
- This aim is attained in that reinforcing ribs are provided on the joining walls between the inner wall portion and the outer wall portion and extend over the height of the corner column. By providing reinforcing ribs on the joining walls and reinforcing ribs at the corner transitions of the inner and the outer wall opposite each other, the transfer of forces occurs through the joining walls and the outer wall of the corner columns whilst the inner wall of the corner column is substantially unaffected by any force. This allows the use of a rather small thickness of the inner wall.
- Preferably the inner wall is provided with only one reinforcing rib.
- Advantageously the reinforcing ribs on the joining walls are located approximately centrally between the inner wall portion and the outer wall portion. This provides a very excellent support of a container by a container disposed thereunder.
- The use of a plastic container with reinforcing ribs according to the invention ensures at all times that a plastic container is properly supported by another plastic container disposed therebelow.
- If, due to a clearance provided, a wall portion of a container should not rest accurately upon the corresponding walls of the plastic containers disposed therebelow, then the reinforcing ribs on the joining wall of the corner column will ensure proper support.
- The invention will be illustrated by means of an embodiment of the container according to the invention with reference to the drawing, wherein:
- Figure 1 is a view of a plastic container according to the invention:
- Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line II/II and
- Figure 3a and 3b show a portion of the stacking of two plastic containers according to the invention, 3a and 3b showing possibilities which may occur due to the clearance between the bottom side of a plastic container according to the invention and the inner circumference on the top side of a plastic container according to the invention.
- Figure 1 shows a container comprising two
long side walls 1 and twoshort side walls 2 which are interconnected by means ofhollow corner columns 3. The plastic container also comprises a bottom connected with theside walls hollow beams 5 which preferably end in anedge 6 provided along the periphery of the bottom 4. - The container is provided with
ventilation openings 7 as well as with a grip means 8. - Providing one or
several recesses 10 in theperipheral edges 6 ensures that rinsing and leakage water can flow away from underneath the container when it is placed upon a floor, while in addition said openings enable ventilation to take place therethrough. - By giving a pair of opposed portions of the peripheral bottom edge 6 a greater height than another pair of edge portions and the elongated hollow beams, there is created a slot- shaped aperture between the floor upon which the container has been placed and the container itself. It is then possible to put a plate underneath the container through said aperture, thus affording easy conveyance of the container by means of for example a hand truck.
- As can be seen in Figure 2, according to the invention, reinforcing
ribs walls hollow corner columns 3, said joiningwalls inner wall portion 17 to outer-wall portions ribs wall portions wall portions inner wall portion 17, results in an optimum transfer of forces between two stacked plastic crates. - Very advantageously, there are located on the inner side of the outer-
wall portions 16a reinforcing ribs walls - The reinforcing
ribs corner transitions ribs - In Figure 3a, portions of stacked plastic containers can be seen, showing that a good transfer of forces between two stacked crates is properly ensured.
- As can be seen, a similar, good transfer of forces is also ensured in the stacked condition as shown in Figure 3b.
- Due to the clearance provided between the
inner circumference 9 on the upper side of a plastic crate and the outer side of theperipheral edge 6 it may occur that the two stacked plastic containers are either in the condition as shown in Figure 3a or in the condition as shown in Figure 3b. - The reinforcing
ribs wall portions boundary 11 between the inner side of the horizontal top face of acorner column 3 and the outer face of the upright inner wall of the container, which inner wall is somewhat conical for the purpose of removing the cores.
