Abstract

1. Feeder for a casting, in particular of cast-iron, with a body (3) in the form of a hollow cylinder consisting of an exothermic heating material, which keeps the substance located in the feeder liquid until the suction of casting material through the region of the casting to be fed is terminated, in which case the volume of the feeder corresponds to the magnitude of the suction volume plus a maximum safety amount of 30% of the suction volume, characterised in that adjoining the body (3) of the feeder in the form of a hollow cylinder, on the side remote from the casting is a receiving chamber (8) which is enlarged with respect to the cavity (4) of this body (3), which chamber (8) is surrounded on all sides by an exothermic heating material, which to a large extent prevents cooling of the casting material located therein, whereas the body (3) in the form of a hollow cylinder serves for heating the casting material passing through this body during the suction operation.
