  • a log skidder will have a boom assembly with a grapple assembly depending from it. It is structurally advantageous to mount the grapple assembly so that it is pivotable about the boom assembly. Commonly, grapple assemblies are pivotable about two mutually perpendicular, horizontal axes.

  • the use of two rather than one shock absorber decreases the loadings induced by the damping imposed at any one point of the hanger 10; provides a greater total damping than would a single larger shock absorber capable of being fitted within the space constraints of grapple assembly 12; provides redundancy should one shock absorber 60, 68 fail or otherwise be inoperative; and provides a greater central recess 71 with a smaller imbalance of forces than would a single shock absorber, increasing the room available for the hydraulic lines 72.
  • the shock absorbers 60, 68 resist changes in their length in a well known manner and hence serve to damp pivoting motion of the various elements of the hanger 10.
  • Each of these shock absorbers 60, 68 is connected between two members pivotable with respect to one another. It is a well known principle of geometry that the distance between any two points on separate members will change as these members are pivoted with respect to one another, so long as neither point is on the axis of pivotability. Pivoting for example, of the first members 32 about the main member 24 causes the distances between the pins 56, 58, 64, 66 to which the shock absorbers 60, 68 are connected to change. Viewing Fig. 2, the pivoting of the first members 32 to the left causes extension of the shock absorber 60 on the right and compression of the shock absorber 68 on the left. The shock absorbers 60 resist such extension or contraction resulting in damping of the pivotal motion.
  • shock absorbers 60, 68 are fully protected by second pivoting members 48 and covers 62 from injurious contact with outside objects. However, as will readily be observed, access to these shock absorbers 60, 68 is readily available for maintenance and replacement when necessary. Further advantageous is the use of identical shock absorbers. Not only is interchangeability enhanced, but the degree of damping thereby remains constant irrespective of the orientation of the grapple assembly 12.
  • the described embodiment of the present. invention maintains as small a vertical distance as is believed to be attainable in a self damped fully pivotable high visibility hanger.
  • the upper or first shock absorbers 60 are vertically mounted so as to promote operator visibility on either side of the hanger 10. This vertical mounting of the upper shock absorbers 60 additionally serves to provide room for extensive pivoting of the second pivoting members 48 without resulting in contact between the upper and lower shock absorbers 60, 68 as would happen were both shock absorber pairs 60, 68 substantially horizontally mounted.
  • the lower or second shock absorbers 68 are substantially horizontally mounted minimizing vertical height of the dampened pivoting hanger 10.
  • the described embodiment of the present invention has internally contained damping providing simplicity of interchangeability of the grapple-hanger assembly. Removal requires only disconnection of the hydraulic lines 72 and unbolting the main mounting member 25 from the rotator 22.

Claims (6)

1. Gedämpfte, schwenkbare Aufhänganordnung (10), die folgendes aufweist: ein Hauptbefestigungsglied (24), angeordnet zur Befestigung an einem Traggebilde; erste Lastlagermittel (32, 38), schwenkbar verbunden mit dem Hauptbefestigungsglied (24) um eine erste Achse (30) und davon herabhängend; erste Dämpfungsmittel (60), verbunden zwischen dem Hauptbefestigungsglied (24) und den ersten Lastlagermitteln (32, 38) zur Dämpfung der Schwenkbewegung dazwischen; zweite Lastlagermittel (48), schwenkbar verbunden damit um eine zweite Achse (44), die schräg verläuft zur ersten Achse (30), zu den ersten Lastlagermitteln (32, 38) und davon herabhängt;
zweite Dämpfungsmittel (68), verbunden zwischen den ersten Lastlagermitteln (32, 38) und den zweiten Lastlagermitteln (48) zur Dämpfung der Schwenkbewegung dazwischen; und eine Lasteingriffsanordnung (12), getragen durch die zweiten Lastlagermittel (48),
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Hauptbefestigungsglied (24) und die ersten und zweiten Lastlagermittel (32, 38; 48) ein entgegengesetzt liegendes Paar von Gliedern (28, 32, 48) aufweisen, wobei die Glieder jedes Paares über die Mitte der Anordnung mit Abstand angeordnet sind, um eine mittige Ausnehmung (71) zu definieren, die sich im wesentlichen vertikal von der Tragstruktur aus durch das Hauptbefestigungsglied und die ersten und zweiten Lastlagermittel zur Lasteingriffsanordnung erstreckt, und ferner dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Lasteingriffsanordnung (12) hydraulisch betätigt ist und hydraulische Leitungen (72) von der Tragstruktur nach unten durch die Vertikalausnehmung (71) zur Lasteingriffsanordnung laufen.
2. Anordnung nach Anspruch 1, wobei die Lasteingriffsanordnung eine Greifanordnung (12) ist.
3. Anordnung nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, wobei die ersten Dämpfungsmittel (60) zwei Stoßdämpfer (60) aufweisen und wobei die zweiten Dämpfungsmittel (68) zwei Stoßdämpfer (68) aufweisen, und wobei ferner alle vier Stoßdämpfer (60, 68) von identischer Konstruktion sind.
4. Anordnung nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche, wobei das Hauptbefestigungsglied (24) zwei Tragteile (28) aufweist, die mit einem Abstand voneinander mit einem Paar von Befestigungsmitteln (30) angeordnet sind, und zwar befestigt an den entsprechenden Tragteilen (28), wobei ferner die ersten Lastlagermittel ein Paar von Schwenkgliedern (32) aufweisen, und zwar verbunden mit den entsprechenden der Befestigungsmittel (30) und schwenkbar bezüglich der Tragteile (28), und wobei ferner ein Paar von Quergliedern (38) vorgesehen ist, die die ersten Schwenkglieder (32) miteinander verbinden, und wobei die Querglieder (38) die entsprechenden von zwei mit Horizontalabstand angeordneten Schwenkstiften (44) tragen, und wobei schließlich die zweiten Lastlagermittel ein Paar von zweiten Schwenkgliedern (48) aufweisen, und zwar befestigt an entsprechenden der Schwenkstifte (44) und schwenkbar bezüglich der ersten Schwenkglieder (32).
5. Anordnung nach Anspruch 4, wobei die zweiten Dämpfungsmittel (68) zwischen den Quergliedern (38) und mindestens einem der zweiten Schwenkglieder (48) verbunden angeordnet sind.
6. Anordnung nach einem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche mit Anschlagmitteln (54) zur Verhinderung des Schwenkens der zweiten Lastlagermittel (48) über eine vorgewählte Größe bezüglich der ersten Lastlagermittel (32, 38) hinaus.
