Abstract

Small mechanical carding machine is provided for a circular knitting machine producing bulky knitwear, such as fur and carpet. It comprises two horizontal cylinders, with rows of metallic points standing out from them. The points are the peripheral edges of fine toothed metallic plates (7) embedded in a non-deformable cladding. The cladding surrounding the plates is rigid, and their tooth-points have a long life, and do not deform during work. The distance between the toothed discs may bary according to requirements. The teeth do not spoil the cladding of the neighbouring cylinder, whether they turn at the same speed, or not.

Description

The invention relates to a small carding machine for circular machines for large knitted fabrics. We know that circular machines for tis-. Large knitted fabrics, such as rugs and furs, require a small card for prior carding of woolly material during machining.

Currently this small card is formed by two cylinders with horizontal axis, superimposed whose lateral surface is coated with a rubber lining from which protrudes a tight group of long, fine, metallic points; passing through the linings of the two cylinders rotating in opposite directions, the fibers of the woolly material are straightened and separated, that is to say carded; they then pass into a barrel-shaped container also provided with a lining equal to that of the cylinders of the small card.

The fine metal tips of these fittings are subject to rapid wear and easy permanent disarming so that they must be changed approximately every twenty working days; in addition, the deformed tips of the linings of the small cardboard damage the lining of the barrel-shaped container, which necessarily results in periodic replacement of the latter.

The object of this invention is to eliminate these drawbacks.

The invention, as described in the claims, solves the problem of making a small carding machine for a circular machine for large fabrics, provided with a non-deformable lining, durable and not damaging the lining of the container in the form of barrel; we have achieved this result in accordance with the invention by adopting the idea of fixing, on the two trees of the small card, a large number of fine metal discs, toothed, placed at a short distance from each other and with the discs of the first shaft alternated and nested in the discs of the second shaft. The advantages obtained thanks to this invention consist mainly in the fact that the lining is rigid, that the tips of the teeth are non-deformable and of long duration; that the distance between the toothed discs varies as required; that the profile of the teeth is such that it does not damage the lining of the neighboring barrel-shaped container; that the rotation in opposite direction of the two shafts takes place quickly is equal or not.

The invention will hereinafter be described in more detail with the aid of drawings given as practical illustration.

Fig. 1 shows the front view, partly in section, of a small card made in accordance with this invention.

The figures represent the structure of a small carding machine for circular machine for bulky fabrics composed essentially by: two horizontal shafts (1-2), parallel and superimposed whose cylindrical bearing ends, (11) are located in the holes (3) two lateral supports (4); each shaft (1-2) is provided - at one end - with a shoulder (5) and - at the other end - with a threaded part (6): several equal discs (7), metallic, with toothed periphery and drilled in their center so as to be mounted on the shafts (1-2), equidistant from each other, separated by one or more thin washers (8) of metal or plastic and held between the shoulder (5 ) and a locking nut (9), placed on the thread (6); the discs (7) of the shaft (1) are not aligned, but on the contrary offset and partly fitted relative to the discs (7) of the shaft (2) with the small teeth ( 7 1) of the discs ( 7), in the shape of a saw and the point directed forwards in the direction of rotation of the discs; toothed gears (10) and (12) respectively wedged on the shafts (1) and (2) and engaged between them, serving to transmit - in the opposite direction and with a ratio equal or different from one - the movement coming from a driving shaft (not shown ) so that the toothed discs (7) of the shaft (1) rotate in the opposite direction to that of the discs (7) of the shaft (2).
