Abstract

1. A burner with a nozzle (2) having an elongated slot for generating a hot gas stream, in particular for the shrinking of plastic film, with a combustion chamber (3) which is arranged upstream of the nozzle (2) and has oblique walls (4, 5) forming a cross-section which tapers in the direction of the nozzle (2) outlet and a flame retention baffle (6) lying opposite the nozzle (2), and extending essentially over the length of the nozzle (2), with a plurality of openings distributed over the outlet face, to which a gas/air mixture is supplied from a pressure distributing chamber (7), characterised in that in the combustion chamber (3), there are arranged directly on the flame retention baffle (6) two rods (11, 12) parallel to the nozzle (2) having a wide slot for forming a main stream (13) directed towards the nozzle (2) outlet and two subsidiary streams (14, 15) directed towards the respective oblique combustion chamber walls (4, 5).
