Abstract

A stepping or indexing mechanism for an encoding rotary or multi-position switch is arranged within a switch housing. The stepping mechanism comprises a symbol or numeric wheel, two substantially mirror-image and mutually symmetrically arranged locking or latching levers, a locking or latching wheel, a gear meshing with the symbol or numeric wheel as well as a switching or indexing element arranged laterally at the switch housing. The locking or latching levers are movably mounted at one end in a bearing or support element and at the other end are structured for the rotatable mounting of a related roller. The latching levers are drawn together with the rollers by a tension spring or equivalent structure into latching or locking recesses of the locking wheel. For the switching operation the locking levers are deflected against the restoring force of the spring out of the locking recesses, and the rollers then slide along locking or latching cams or dogs provided with arcuate-shaped flank profiles. The stepping or indexing mechanism insures for an exact switch or indexing operation which can be positively transmitted to the symbol or numeric wheel.

Description

The invention relates to a switching mechanism for a rotary coding switch, which is arranged in a housing and comprises a symbol or number wheel rotatably mounted about a first axle journal, a switching element and a locking device essentially formed from a ratchet wheel and at least one spring-loaded latching lever resting on the ratchet wheel, wherein the indexing wheel has a plurality of indexing recesses formed by indexing cams with an arcuate flank profile that are uniformly distributed on the circumference.

From FR-A-2 188 277 such a switching mechanism for a rotary coding switch is known, which is arranged in a housing and comprises a rotatably mounted number wheel, a coupling element and a switching element rotatably mounted against the restoring force of a spring, which with the coupling element by end teeth trained coupling parts is operatively connected. In one variant, the thumbwheel is provided with an internal bevel gear and is operatively connected to a correspondingly assigned bevel gear which is in engagement with the internal bevel gear by the restoring force of a spring. The rotation of the thumb wheel is counteracted by a resiliently attached raster body on the housing, which engages with a roller in a ribbed, annular surface of the thumb wheel. The rear derailleur of this rotary switch is designed so that the number wheel can only be turned between the individual display positions in the opposite direction.

From US-A-3 195 358 a switching mechanism for a rotary coding switch with a one-piece actuator is known, which comprises a numerical, switching and latching part. In this rear derailleur, the actuating member, which is rotatably mounted on an axis, has a cylindrical, numbered first section, a second section provided with locking cams and recesses, and a third section provided with a plurality of shift fingers. The positioning or detent required for the switching process is achieved in this rear derailleur by a spring resiliently against the third section designed as a ratchet wheel and deflectable against the restoring force of a spring.

A latching device formed with a ratchet wheel and two latching levers arranged symmetrically to one another is known from DE-C-1186124 and US-A-3 133 164, respectively. The detent levers are either rounded at the one end which is in engagement with the detent wheel and can be deflected against the restoring force of a spring, or have a rotatably mounted roller.

The invention has for its object to provide for a rotary switch according to the preamble of claim 1, a forward and reverse switchable switchgear and a locking device and to arrange each other such that the switching and locking elements ensure a switching process exactly transferable to the symbol or number wheel.

This requirement should also be guaranteed in difficult environmental conditions, i.e. operability with gloves.

According to the invention, this object is achieved by the following features:
  • a) on the axis of symmetry of the housing, at a distance from the symbol or number wheel rotatable about the first axle journal, the switching element rotatably mounted about a second axle journal, the ratchet wheel and a gearwheel are arranged,
  • b) the parts which can be rotated about the second axle journal are operatively connected to one another,
  • c) the gearwheel engages with a toothing provided on the inner circumference of the symbol or number wheel, and
  • d) the locking device has two locking levers known per se, which are supported at one end in the housing and each rest at the other end with a rotatably mounted roller on the locking wheel and can be deflected against the restoring force of a spring in each switching step.
