- the invention relates to a suspension arrangement for railway vehicles (in particular for freight wagons), comprising, for each axle, springs supported by the axle boxes and connected by their free end to the chassis to be suspended (chassis of axle wagon or bogie chassis) by oblique articulated rings each surrounding a lower articulation axis secured to the chassis to be suspended and an upper articulation axis supported by the corresponding spring, the arrangement being designed so that the distance, counted horizontally, between the upper articulation axis of each connecting ring and the axle axis is constant, each axle box being framed - with longitudinal play - by a pair of guard plates.
- Axles of the indicated type are also known, equipped with leaf springs, ensuring both suspension and damping.
- the axle boxes are not pressed against their guard plates. If such axles have good steerability, their stability leaves something to be desired. In addition, their amortization is often insufficient.

- This force is equal to the result, in longitudinal direction, of the horizontal components of the forces exerted on the connecting rings due to the weight of the suspended chassis; it is not zero, thanks to the difference in obliquity given to the rings, and has the effect of pushing the axle boxes against the guard plates located on one side of the axle.
- This force defines a threshold below which the axle is stable and beyond which the axle is steerable by displacement of the axle boxes in their casing. The latter case occurs in curves of small radius where the orientation forces of which the axle is the seat exceed said threshold, so that the axle can be placed in the radial direction in such curves. When these forces decrease below the threshold, the axle regains its stability.
- each axle box for each axle box are provided two helical suspension springs of vertical axis, located substantially symmetrically on either side of the axle, the free end each of them being capped with a cap which carries the upper articulation axis of the corresponding connecting ring and presses with a horizontal thrust force on a friction lining of vertical plane in contact with a friction lining carried by the axle box, the whole axle box and friction linings being interposed - with said clearance - between the guard plates.

- Each axle box can be mounted in the center of its leaf spring, the position of the guard plates being slightly offset from that of the lower articulation axes of the connecting rings, so as to produce an asymmetrical assembly in which the axle box is pressed at rest against a guard plate.
- the same result can also be obtained by slightly shifting each axle box relative to the center of its leaf spring, on the side where it must rest at rest against a guard plate. All these offsets are of course carried out identically on either side of the longitudinal plane of symmetry of the vehicle.
