Abstract

An improved support web, particularly for use in the construction of furniture, comprises a band, which may be made of plastic material having spaced, parallel, longitudinal reinforcing threads such as glass fibers embedded therein and a connecting member of plastic material at least one end of the band of which is formed in one piece about the band end by a molding or casting process to surround, on all sides, a folded end of the band having its layers secured together, there being holes passing through the folded end of the band which become filled with material of the connecting member. The connecting member has a strong connection with the band and may be nailed or stapled to the frame of a piece of furniture to connect the support web to the frame. Alternatively, the connecting member may be provided with a hook formation or with a molded-in hook or hooks for connecting it to a frame.

Description

The invention relates to a belt, in particular covering belt for furniture, consisting of a flat piece of tape made of plastic with reinforcing threads made of glass fibers embedded therein, which is provided at least at one end with a fold secured by welding and a connecting body made of plastic.

In a known belt of this type (FR-A-2403763), the folding at the end of the band forms an eyelet / into which the separately prefabricated, independent connecting body can be inserted. The connector body forms a connecting part which, after the band piece has been guided around a frame strut of a piece of furniture, can be hung on the band piece itself. Straps of this type are used for covering seating and reclining furniture, in which they form a spring base for upholstery pads, mattresses, etc. in a mutually parallel, possibly crossing arrangement. The straps can only be attached to the frame struts of a piece of furniture.

There are also known straps for covering wooden frames of furniture, which consist only of a flat piece of tape made of plastic with reinforcing threads made of glass fibers embedded therein, spaced parallel to one another. A significant problem when using such simple straps is their attachment to the struts of the wooden frame. In practice, this is done by first fixing an end region of the piece of tape with the downward-facing upper side by means of staples and then folding the piece of tape over the already defined area and placing staples again. Only with such double stitching, which is complex and complicated, can a connection be made to the frame struts, which can transmit tensile forces in a size which corresponds to at least part of the tensile strength of the belt. However, the connection always remains a weak point with the frequently observed consequence of the belt being detached or torn from the supporting furniture frame.

The invention has for its object to provide a belt of the type specified in the preamble of claim 1, which is particularly simple to attach by means of clips, nails or screws to the frame struts of a piece of furniture and with a strength of the connection that is not inferior to the tensile strength of the piece of tape .

To achieve this object, the belt according to the invention is characterized in that the connecting body is integrally cast onto the folded end of the band, the plastic of the connecting body enclosing the end of the band together with the folding on all sides and penetrating through perforations which in the area of the folding of the in itself known manner are provided with reinforcing longitudinal threads spaced parallel to each other. With regard to further refinements, reference is made to claims 2 to 10.

The belt according to the invention can be connected directly and easily to any part supporting it, such as the frame struts of a piece of furniture, by means of clips, nailing or screwing on, with the danger of detachment of the connector body due to tearing out of the staples or the connecting means otherwise used being completely avoidable is. The connection between the end of the band and the connecting body also has a strength which withstands at least all loads which lie in the area of the tensile strength of the band piece. As a result of the double layer formed by the folding and secured by welding, a tensile strength remains at least in that area of the strip end in which the continuous perforations weaken the load-bearing strip cross-section, which corresponds at least to that of the normal strip. Since the connector body penetrates the casting channels at its casting or injection molding at the end of the tape, there is also a certainty in the area of the tensile strength of the tape piece of the anchorage of the tape end in the connecting body, even if due to the differences between those for the tape piece and for the plastics selected for the connection body, there is no fusion of the parts at the contact surfaces during the casting process. Such a fusing process is not very desirable anyway, because it can also cause weakening in the band piece itself in the area of the transition from the band piece to the connecting body.

In the drawing, two embodiments of the object of the invention are illustrated in more detail. In detail show:
  • FIG. 1 shows a side view of one end region of a belt,
  • FIG. 2 shows a top view of FIG. 1,
  • FIG. 3 shows a section along the line III-III in FIG. 2,

The belt shown comprises in particular a flat piece of tape 1 made of plastic, in particular polyethylene, with embedded longitudinal reinforcing threads 2 made of glass fibers and a connecting body 3 made of plastic, in particular polypropylene, embedded therein, spaced parallel to one another. A particularly strong plastic is preferably used for the connecting body chooses, since it is then possible to make the connection with a frame strut, not shown, of a piece of furniture or any other supporting part with the help of a single suitable staple or the like, or also by one (or more connecting hooks).

The band piece 1 is provided with a fold 4 at its band end. This folding 4 is secured by welding to the band piece 1 against leaving its position brought about and illustrated by the folding under load. The welding is preferably carried out over the entire surface and illustrated in the drawing at 5.

In the area of the folding 4, the band end is provided with continuous perforations 6, which form casting channels, which are filled by the material of the connector body 3 when it is poured or sprayed on. In the example shown, the perforations are arranged in a row running transversely to the longitudinal direction of the band and in each case in the area between reinforcing thread 2, so that the reinforcing longitudinal threads remain undamaged.

This is important for maintaining the full tensile strength of the tape piece 1 and the connection from the tape piece 1 to the connector body 3, because by the folding at the end of the tape also the reinforcing longitudinal threads 2 receive such a folding, which prevents the reinforcing longitudinal threads 2 in the plastic material of the tape piece Can withdraw load. In the example shown, the perforations 6 are furthermore arranged close to and along the inner end edge 7 of the fold 4 of the band end, so that it is ensured that the connecting body 3 cannot open in the region of the inlet of the band piece 1 with a corresponding band load.

To save material can be provided in the connector body 3 from its top and / or its underside down to the adjacent strip surface recesses 8 and 9, which can be arranged in a circle and in a row transverse to the longitudinal direction of the strip. The number and size of the recesses depends on the extent of the possible material savings, which in turn depend on the strength of the plastic chosen for the connector body 3. Two such recesses are suitable for production technology both on the top and on the underside, because such recesses can be formed in the injection mold by suitable holding and centering members.

The connector body 3 preferably has the shape of a flat plate rounded at the edges. On its upper side, this can have a shoulder 10 serving as a stop for a stapling or stapling machine (FIGS. 1 to 4).

It goes without saying that, in particular in the form of the connecting body 3, there is considerable scope for modifications in view of specific tasks of the belt. So it is z. B. also conceivable to provide the connector body 3 with an acute angled back to the band piece and downward extending fastening rib, with the aid of which the connector body 3 can also be fixed to a part provided with a corresponding receiving groove without tacking or separate connecting means.

The connector body 3 illustrated in FIGS. 5 and 6 has on its side facing away from the band piece 1 a connector hook 11 which is also injected into the connector body with an angled end 12. If necessary, several connection hooks 11 can also be used. The connecting hook 11 enables it to be hooked into a bore or the like. Recess in a frame strut. The connector body 3 can also be provided with a flange extension 13 which overlaps the connector hook (s) and, as shown, optionally engages in regions on the upper side. The flange shoulder 13 can extend over the entire width of the connecting body or, as shown in dashed lines, occupy part of this width. It is also understood that the belt is usually provided at both ends with a corresponding connector body 3, especially when used as a clothing belt for furniture, in which the connector body 3 favor a mechanical fixing of the straps on the furniture body.
