Description
The invention relates to an outer housing for an exhaust muffler for internal combustion engines, comprising at least one pipe section which has a seamlessly transitioning base at one end and at least one connecting piece which also proceeds seamlessly.
The exhaust muffler according to the invention should preferably be used on motor vehicles.
In a known outer housing of the presupposed type (DE-OS 25 20 301), the bottom and the connecting piece extending therefrom are formed in one piece on the pipe section in question in that the relevant end of the pipe section is tapered by round hammers. The round hammering can be carried out over a mandrel or also without a mandrel as cold forming or hot forming. This known outer housing has several disadvantages. The shaping of the pipe socket by means of rotary hammers not only requires expensive tools, but is also labor-intensive and complicated. The floor can only be tapered outwards up to about 45 ° so that the creation of other shapes for the floor, e.g. a bottom extending substantially perpendicular to the tube axis, with the known manufacturing method is excluded.
Demgegenüber ist es Aufgabe der Erfindung, ein Außengehäuse für einen Abgasschalldämpfer für Brennkraftmaschinen zu schaffen, das einfach und billigIn contrast, it is an object of the invention to provide an outer housing for an exhaust silencer for internal combustion engines that is simple and cheap
herstellbar ist, aus einem Werkstoff hergestellt ist, , der besonders korrosionsbeständig ist, und das gegenüber den bekannten Konstruktionen zudem eine Gewichtseinsparung erbringt.is producible, is made of a material that is particularly corrosion-resistant, and which also saves weight compared to the known constructions.
This object is achieved in that the tube section with bottom and connecting piece consists of a wrought aluminum alloy and is extruded in one piece.
The solution according to the invention allows the production of the pipe socket with bottom and connecting piece in one operation. This reduces both the manufacturing time and the manufacturing costs compared to the known designs. The extrusion process also allows any design of the bottom and the connecting piece or the connecting piece. The latter can also be arranged anywhere on the floor. The connecting pieces can namely protrude both inwards and outwards and / or be arranged centrally or eccentrically with respect to the pipe axis. The wrought aluminum alloys are highly corrosion-resistant, so that the outer housing according to the invention is characterized by a long service life. The outer housing according to the invention can be made relatively thin-walled. The screw connections for the base and cover, which are otherwise required for multi-part outer housings, are no longer required. The outer housing according to the invention is characterized by a low weight.
An exhaust gas silencer for internal combustion engines has become known (DE-OS 26 53 732), in which the tubular housing consists of an extrusion process. manufactured aluminum hollow profile. In this known exhaust silencer, however, the two front housing covers are designed as separate components that have to be screwed to the tubular basic housing. The outer housing of the known exhaust silencer then consists of several differently designed components that must be assembled. This makes the known construction more expensive.
Appropriate developments of the solution according to the invention result from the remaining claims.
Since the extrusion process allows wide design options, the pipe sections can have a round, oval or rectangular cross section and cooling fins can be formed in one piece on the outer surface of the pipe sections.
The outer housing according to the invention can consist of at least two pipe sections which are aligned with one another. Both end pipe sections can be designed according to the invention. But it is also conceivable that an end or middle tube section is only cylindrical.
In the case in which the outer housing according to the invention consists of at least two pipe sections placed flush against one another, it is advantageous that the pipe sections cannot be removed by folding or welding are interconnected. In such an embodiment, it is expedient that an intermediate base is crimped in the joining plane of two pipe sections placed one against the other. This does not necessarily have to be made of an aluminum alloy, but can also consist of steel.
If the outer housing according to the invention consists of only one pipe section, it is expedient that the other end of the pipe section is closed by a cover, which in turn has one or more connecting pieces. The connection between the cover and the pipe socket can be made as desired and e.g. be a screw connection.
The wide design options of aluminum extrusion allow the shape of the floor to be chosen as desired. This can be conical, curved or flat.
According to a further, particularly preferred embodiment of the solution according to the invention, at least one receiving part directed into the interior of the tube is integrally formed exclusively or in addition to at least one connecting piece projecting outwards at the bottom of the tube section. This receiving part is used to fix a perforated tube arranged in the interior of an exhaust silencer, between whose outer wall and the inner wall of the outer housing a noise-absorbing material is sandwiched.
The described receiving part is expediently designed as a pipe socket. In this case, it is advantageous from a manufacturing point of view that the outer connection piece and the inner pipe piece are in relation to one another are aligned. A plurality of such connecting pieces and pipe pieces can also be provided.
Finally, it is advantageous if the inner pipe socket is designed in such a way that subsequent deformation, e.g. training in the form of a venturi tube is possible.
