Definitions

  • the present invention relates to sets of printing ribbon cartridge and erasing ribbon cartridge for typewriters and more particularly it relates to a device for joining together the printing ribbon cartridge and the erasing ribbon cartridge. so as to form a single rigid structure while still allowing easy separation of the two cartridges by the operator.
  • Publication FR - A - 2 391 853 presents an assembly composed of a printing ribbon cartridge to which an erasing ribbon cartridge is assembled, this assembly being able to be inserted and used in a typewriter.
  • the erasing ribbon cartridge is removably mounted on the printing ribbon cartridge by means of pins and positioning holes.
  • the present invention relates to a device which makes it possible to join, by superposition, a cartridge of printing ribbon and a cartridge of erasing ribbon, in a relatively rigid assembly. This device also makes it possible to easily separate the two cartridges for the purposes, for example, of replacing one of them.
  • the cartridges are shaped so that, when superimposed, their opposite faces fit together. Passages, formed in centering ears extending from one of said faces of one of the cartridges, receive and retain fins integral with the other cartridge. Shoulders on each cartridge come into mutual contact in order to prevent the relative movement of the cartridges, in a first direction.
  • a cam secured to one of them cooperates with a cam follower secured to the other to cause on the one hand, a relative movement between the cartridges in said first direction until that said shoulders come into mutual contact and to, on the other hand, prohibit any relative movement in a second direction opposite to the first.
  • the relative movement of one cartridge with respect to the other, in the direction perpendicular to that of said first and second directions is prohibited by means of a slot made in one cartridge and into which an element of the other cartridge penetrates. .
  • FIG 1 shows a set 10 of two cartridges which can be used in typewriters and other similar machines.
  • the assembly 10 comprises a cartridge of printing ribbon 11 and a cartridge of erasing ribbon 30 superimposed. These cartridges are joined together while remaining separable, by the device produced according to the teachings of the present invention.
  • the print ribbon cartridge 11 has an upper surface 12 and a lower surface 13 while the erase ribbon cartridge 30 has an upper surface 14 and a lower surface 15 (see Figure 4A) which is intended to be arranged facing the lower surface 13 of the cartridge 11.
  • the cartridge 30 contains an erasing ribbon 6 (see FIG. 3) and the cartridge 11 contains a printing ribbon 7.
  • the function of the ears 9 and of the pin 8 of the cartridge 11, as well as the drive of the ribbons 6 and 7 by the typewriter, are described in the publication FR - A - 2 391 853 cited above. Those skilled in the art will however understand that the device of the present invention is suitable for all types of cartridges.
  • the cartridges of printing ribbon 11 and erasing ribbon 30 are assembled facing each other by their bottoms and are thus held by the device of the present invention to form an assembly or a structure. rigid can always be easily disassembled if desired.
  • the device of the present invention prohibits any relative movement of the cartridges along the axes 16 and 17.
  • one of the cartridges in this case that containing the printing ribbon 11, has ears 18 for centering the cartridges relative to each other. These ears 18 extend from the plane of the lower surface 13 to trap, on the opposite sides of the opening 11 A of the cartridge 11, a part of the erasing tape cartridge 30. These centering ears are perpendicular to the face 13, spaced from each other and converging. Their role is to come into contact with the side walls of the front part of the cartridge 30.
  • each centering lug 18 comprises an element which defines a passage 19 in the form of a drop water whose narrow part 20, located towards the front of the orifice, has a function which will be specified later.
  • the second cartridge which in this case is the erasing tape cartridge 30, comprises two fins 31 situated at the front of the cartridge and intended to penetrate the passages 19 and to remain in close contact with the ears at the height of the narrow passages 20.
  • the adjustment between the fin 31 on each side of the opening 11 A and the associated passage 19 of the ear 18, is essentially a tight adjustment which makes it possible to keep the cartridges tight against each other the other at least in the areas adjacent to the opening 11 A.
  • the axis 16 is indicated by the double arrow 16A-16B.
  • the cartridges are provided with stop elements intended to come into mutual contact. These elements consist of shoulders 32 on the opposite sides of the periphery of the cartridge 30 which come into contact with shoulders 21 which are themselves, in this case, constituted by the rear edges of the centering ears 18. Thus , when the shoulders 32 come into contact with the shoulders 21, any movement of the cartridge 30 in the direction 16A is prohibited.
  • FIGS 5, 6 and 7 show a cartridge 11 which, for this purpose, comprises a guide and hooking means 22 fixed to its lower surface 13.
  • the guide and hooking means 22 comprises a guide or cam surface 23 ( Figure 7) designed to receive a cam follower 33 ( Figure 8) connected to the cartridge 30 and more particularly disposed in an opening 15A formed in the bottom 15 of the cartridge 30, the opening 15A being aligned with the means of guide and latching 22.
  • the follower 33 after having struck the guide surface or cam 23, tends to move the cartridge 30 forwards in the directions 16A until the shoulders 32 bear against the shoulders 21.
  • the follower 33 is preferably composed of a flexible material which allows it to flex as shown in FIG. 6, until the lower surfaces 13 and 15 of the cartridges 11 and 30 are pressed against the one against the other, as shown schematically on the F igure 4C.
  • the action of the follower 33 against the guide surface or cam 23 prevents any movement of the cartridge 30 relative to the cartridge 11 in the direction 16B.
  • Means are provided on the cartridges in order to prohibit the movement of the cartridge 30 relative to the cartridge 11 on the axis 17 perpendicular to the axis 16.
  • These means consist of a slot 24 formed in the guide means and d 'hooking 22, said slot extending forwardly in the guide surface 23 and being of dimensions such that it can receive an element 34 perpendicular to the follower 33. With this arrangement, the element 34 can penetrate into the slot 24 and thus prohibit any lateral movement of the rear end of the cartridges 30 relative to the cartridge 11.
  • a locking means 36 has been provided (see FIG. 2).
  • This locking means comprises a stud 37 integral with the outer part of the cartridge 11 and a straight element 38 whose hook 39 (see Figure 2A) hooks a rib 26 of the cartridge 30.
  • the element 38 extends from 'a wider part (not shown) which can be pushed in by the operator.
  • the follower 33 which is made of elastic material, takes the position shown in Figure 6, when the cartridges are assembled and exerts a restoring force which tends to separate the cartridges. In order to oppose this force, the rib 26 and the hook 39 are placed so that the element 38 works in traction. In this way, when said wide part of the latch 36 is pressed and the hook 39 is thereby disengaged from the rib 26, the cartridges 30 and 11 automatically move apart under the action of the restoring force exerted by the follower 33 due to its deformation.
