Definitions
- the present patent application relates to a method according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
- Such a method is known for example from US-PS 28 72 339 and from FR-PS 1 121 286.
- red, green and blue phosphors are applied by coating the entire area three times (sedimentation combined with spinning), exposing three times (photo technology for each color individually) and then washing off the unexposed areas and subsequent drying process before the next coating.
- the object on which the present invention is based is to produce a flat or one-way curved color screen for several colors - e.g. the three basic colors red, green and blue - especially for color picture tubes, whereby a flat or curved glass plate is used as the screen substrate.
- the cumbersome procedural steps of photo technology and the associated disadvantages should be avoided and a good adhesive strength of the phosphor layers should be guaranteed.
- the basic mask determines size, edge sharpness, separation and spacing of the dye areas and remains on the substrate with all color coatings.
- the dye areas are at least 0.01 mm 2 in size.
- a base mask made from magnetic steel sheet or from copper-beryllium sheet with magnetic nickel coating or from sheet steel with copper and / or nickel coating can be used, as can a base mask made from nickel.
- the method according to the teaching of the invention ensures that the colors do not overlap, the surfaces applied are not damaged by the mask for the following color, and the geometry of the color pigment distribution is exactly adhered to.
- the thickness of the base mask is preferably approximately 10 to 30 ⁇ m larger than the planned thickness of the phosphor layers.
- n coating masks (e.g. 3) with a defined assignment to one of the n colors (3) contain a grid with a periodicity of 1 / n (e.g. 1/3) of the basic grid.
- the respective coating masks are put on one after the other, removed and cleaned after the coating. This process is carried out n times, for each color separately. The colors are applied as a finished grid.
- the dyes can be recovered in a color-pure, simple and cost-saving manner. This is a significant advantage over conventional screen production.
- the coating of the substrate with the phosphor suspensions is carried out by pressure spraying, spray nozzles which operate without dripping when the substrate is arranged horizontally, or the spray direction is perpendicular to the substrate plate when the substrate arrangement is vertical or inclined .
- the substrate plate which is arranged at an angle of approximately 75 °, is coated up to a layer thickness of 25 Itm by passing through the spray jet several times.
- the coatings with the various masks by electrostatic spraying onto the substrate provided with a conductive layer with high voltages of 20 to 30 kV.
- the substrates are contacted on their conductive layers, for example consisting of Sn0 2 (tin oxide) (+ pole), as are the masks.
- the substrates are isolated on a magnet.
- the nozzles used are grounded (-pole). It is particularly possible to work with simple centrifugal nozzles.
- the phosphor slurry is released in a finely dosed manner.
- the coating process is so slow that a high surface coverage density with Fluorescent grains can be achieved with a low binder content, in which the layer thickness is well controllable and reproducible.
- a further possibility for covering the phosphor of the screen glass is provided by the mask screen printing process, the coating masks being formed by screen printing masks.
- This technique can only be used for formats up to a maximum of the size at which the required raster accuracy can still be maintained.
- the viscosity of the paste is adjusted so that the "windows" are filled with "colors”.
- the coating masks are put on and / or removed manually or mechanically either by mechanical or magnetic grippers.
- Figure a) shows the arrangement before coating;
- Figure e) the finished "colors" grid.
- substrate 1 In principle, four arrangements of the substrates provided with the masks, which are shown in FIGS. 2 to 5, are recommended. The same reference numerals always apply: substrate 1; Basic mask 2; Coating masks 3, 4, 5; Spray nozzles 9; Holding magnets 10.
- the sequence of the entire screen production by the phosphor coating in three colors can be seen from the diagram designated as FIG. 6.
- the process of producing the fluorescent screen is marked by solid lines with arrows, while the dashed lines with arrows point in the direction of travel of accessories.
- Analog processes are connected by dashed lines without arrows. Numbers without points and additional number indicate the number of the further processing step; this also applies to the numbers before the points. The numbers after the points show the different alternatives for the coating.
- the field with a dashed outline relates to the subject matter of the invention.
- pigment dyes in preferably water-free organic slurry liquids as the phosphors, whose particle size distribution is between a minimum of 1 to 3 ⁇ m and a maximum of 10 to 15 11 m.
- the viscosity of the emulsions is controlled in the range from 1 to 35% by volume by adding binders, preferably in the form of collodion wool (nitrated cellulose).
- the main representatives used as phosphors are: For blue, the ZnS: Ag system (zinc sulfide, doped with silver), for green the system (ZnCd) S: Cu (zinc cadmium sulfide, doped with copper), for red the system Y Z O Z S: Eu (yttrium sulfoxide, doped with europium).
- An anhydrous phosphor slurry contains approximately
- a water-containing phosphor slurry consists of
- Its characteristic feature is a long dry season. It is therefore preferably applicable for electrostatic spraying and mask screen printing or spraying on hot substrates.
- Potash water glass of various viscosities can also be used as a binder in the water-containing phosphor slurries, the proportion depending on the required viscosity being between 20 and 45% by volume.
- an annealing process is carried out in an oxygen-containing atmosphere in order to drive off organic compounds and to stabilize adhesion promoters, if present.
- 200 g of phosphor e.g. ZnS: Ag, blue, medium grain 9 approx. 8 .mu.m
- 200 g of phosphor e.g. ZnS: Ag, blue, medium grain 9 approx. 8 .mu.m
- a mixture of volatile acetates, methanol and butanol with a boiling range from 55 to 118 ° C. that is, 5 minutes at about 150 rpm.
- 200 ml of butyl acetate and 200 ml of binder collodion wool with butyl acetate and ethanol.
- the preparation is then filled into closed containers and stored in a vibrator until further processing.
- the slurry is filled in spray guns with built-in stirrer or additional material circulation system and sprayed onto the substrates through fine nozzles at a distance of approx. 10 cm.
- the decanted slurry has a particularly low concentration of clumps and has the right viscosity for electrostatic spraying.
- the fluorescent slurry is sprayed in a finely metered manner through the centrifugal nozzle, in the storage vessel of which the decanted fluorescent slurry is permanently stirred (magnetic stirring), and settles on the substrate.
- the layer thickness is adjusted to approx. 25 ⁇ m over the coating time (approx. 20 min).
- the two other slurries prepared in the same way are applied after changing the corresponding masks.
- 500 g of phosphor (e.g. Y 2 O 2 S: Eu, average grain size approx. 5 to 9) are suspended in 160 ml of ethanol for approx. 2 min with a magnetic stirrer, 190 ml of a mixture of volatile acetates with methanol and butanol with a boiling range between 55 and 118 ° C added and stirring continued for about 5 min.
- 147 ml of butyl acetate and 126 ml of binder collodion wool in butyl acetate and ethanol
- Example 1 Transfer and storage as in Example 1.
- This suspension is sprayed with drip-free spray guns either from the side or from above onto the screen glass at a distance of 10 to 15 5 cm by repeatedly moving the spray gun back and forth and moving it by hand or by an automatic movement mechanism, until a layer thickness of 15 to 20 ⁇ m is reached.

Description
The present patent application relates to a method according to the preamble of
Such a method is known for example from US-PS 28 72 339 and from FR-
In the manufacture of the well-known color picture tubes (TV), red, green and blue phosphors are applied by coating the entire area three times (sedimentation combined with spinning), exposing three times (photo technology for each color individually) and then washing off the unexposed areas and subsequent drying process before the next coating.
Such a coating process can be found in Valvo Reports XVIII,
The object on which the present invention is based is to produce a flat or one-way curved color screen for several colors - e.g. the three basic colors red, green and blue - especially for color picture tubes, whereby a flat or curved glass plate is used as the screen substrate. The cumbersome procedural steps of photo technology and the associated disadvantages (e.g. color impurities) should be avoided and a good adhesive strength of the phosphor layers should be guaranteed.
This object is achieved according to the invention by a method having the characterizing features of
It should be within the scope of the inventive concept to use a basic mask made of magnetic material and to fix it on the substrate by means of a surface magnet. The basic mask determines size, edge sharpness, separation and spacing of the dye areas and remains on the substrate with all color coatings. The dye areas are at least 0.01 mm 2 in size.
A base mask made from magnetic steel sheet or from copper-beryllium sheet with magnetic nickel coating or from sheet steel with copper and / or nickel coating can be used, as can a base mask made from nickel.
The method according to the teaching of the invention ensures that the colors do not overlap, the surfaces applied are not damaged by the mask for the following color, and the geometry of the color pigment distribution is exactly adhered to. The thickness of the base mask is preferably approximately 10 to 30 μm larger than the planned thickness of the phosphor layers.
Further n coating masks (e.g. 3) with a defined assignment to one of the n colors (3) contain a grid with a periodicity of 1 / n (e.g. 1/3) of the basic grid. For the color coating, the respective coating masks are put on one after the other, removed and cleaned after the coating. This process is carried out n times, for each color separately. The colors are applied as a finished grid.
Up to this section of the screen production, in comparison to conventional screen production by means of photo technology, there are no exposure steps, n washing-up steps and n drying steps.
By cleaning the coating masks and filtering the cleaning solutions (separated by color), the dyes can be recovered in a color-pure, simple and cost-saving manner. This is a significant advantage over conventional screen production.
In a further development of the concept of the invention, the coating of the substrate with the phosphor suspensions is carried out by pressure spraying, spray nozzles which operate without dripping when the substrate is arranged horizontally, or the spray direction is perpendicular to the substrate plate when the substrate arrangement is vertical or inclined . According to a special embodiment of the invention, the substrate plate, which is arranged at an angle of approximately 75 °, is coated up to a layer thickness of 25 Itm by passing through the spray jet several times.
However, it is also possible to apply the coatings with the various masks by electrostatic spraying onto the substrate provided with a conductive layer with high voltages of 20 to 30 kV. The substrates are contacted on their conductive layers, for example consisting of Sn0 2 (tin oxide) (+ pole), as are the masks. The substrates are isolated on a magnet. The nozzles used are grounded (-pole). It is particularly possible to work with simple centrifugal nozzles. The phosphor slurry is released in a finely dosed manner. The coating process is so slow that a high surface coverage density with Fluorescent grains can be achieved with a low binder content, in which the layer thickness is well controllable and reproducible.
A further possibility for covering the phosphor of the screen glass is provided by the mask screen printing process, the coating masks being formed by screen printing masks. This technique can only be used for formats up to a maximum of the size at which the required raster accuracy can still be maintained. The viscosity of the paste is adjusted so that the "windows" are filled with "colors".
When carrying out the method according to the invention, the coating masks are put on and / or removed manually or mechanically either by mechanical or magnetic grippers.
Various possibilities of the substrate arrangement are to be described below with reference to exemplary embodiments and FIGS. 1 to 5.
- 1) the
basic mask 2 lies directly on the substrate and is adjusted and fixed there (Figure a)), - 2) the
base mask 2 is approximately 10 to 30 μm thicker than the desired layer thickness of the 6, 7, 8 to be applied (phosphor pigments),phosphor surfaces - 3) the three
coating masks 3, 4 and 5 (one for each color) are adjusted exactly to the basic mask 2 (they can be made about 10 to 40 µm thinner than thebasic mask 2; the lower limit is, of course, the handling without kinking and cracking ) and - 4) the surface of all masks (2, 3, 4 and 5) is very flat, the masks are water-free and very well cleaned.
Figure a) shows the arrangement before coating; Figure e) the finished "colors" grid.
Dabei gelten immer die gleichen Bezugszeichen: Substrat 1; Grundmaske 2; Beschichtungsmasken 3, 4, 5; Spritzdüsen 9; Haltemagnete 10.In principle, four arrangements of the substrates provided with the masks, which are shown in FIGS. 2 to 5, are recommended. The same reference numerals always apply:

- Figure 2 shows a horizontal arrangement for spraying from above (9), suitable for quick and slow drying fluorescent slurries (eg water-containing systems), as well as for electrostatic spraying.
Suitable spray nozzles 9 prevent large particles from reaching theflat substrate 1 from the nozzles. - 3 shows the same arrangement as FIG. 2 with a
substrate 1 curved in one direction. - FIG. 4 shows a vertical or inclined arrangement for lateral spraying using

Themasks substrate 1 lies insulated on the holding magnet 10 (FIG. 13). The nozzles used in each case (not shown in the figure) are grounded (-pole). The entire structure (bell made of plexiglass) is electrically insulated from the outside (14) and has a discharge opening for the compensation of excess pressure (not shown).
The sequence of the entire screen production by the phosphor coating in three colors can be seen from the diagram designated as FIG. 6. The process of producing the fluorescent screen is marked by solid lines with arrows, while the dashed lines with arrows point in the direction of travel of accessories. Analog processes are connected by dashed lines without arrows. Numbers without points and additional number indicate the number of the further processing step; this also applies to the numbers before the points. The numbers after the points show the different alternatives for the coating. The field with a dashed outline relates to the subject matter of the invention.
It has the advantage over the water-containing slurry of fine distribution of the fluorescent microcrystals without clumping and very fast drying. Applicable to all spraying techniques.
Its characteristic feature is a long dry season. It is therefore preferably applicable for electrostatic spraying and mask screen printing or spraying on hot substrates.
Potash water glass of various viscosities can also be used as a binder in the water-containing phosphor slurries, the proportion depending on the required viscosity being between 20 and 45% by volume.
Following the coating process, an annealing process is carried out in an oxygen-containing atmosphere in order to drive off organic compounds and to stabilize adhesion promoters, if present.
In the following, three exemplary embodiments are to be given from the large number of formulations for phosphor slurries.
200 g Leuchtstoff (z.B.
5 to 9) are suspended in 160 ml of ethanol for approx. 2 min with a magnetic stirrer, 190 ml of a mixture of volatile acetates with methanol and butanol with a boiling range between 55 and 118 ° C added and stirring continued for about 5 min. 63 ml of xylene, 63 ml of silicon ester solution (Si0 2 formation, coating liquid ZLI 902 (Merck)), 147 ml of butyl acetate and 126 ml of binder (collodion wool in butyl acetate and ethanol) are then stirred in. Transfer and storage as in Example 1. This suspension is sprayed with drip-free spray guns either from the side or from above onto the screen glass at a distance of 10 to 15 5 cm by repeatedly moving the spray gun back and forth and moving it by hand or by an automatic movement mechanism, until a layer thickness of 15 to 20 µm is reached.
To remove all organic compounds from the phosphor layer, it has to be annealed in air at 250 to 400 ° C for at least 30 min. This can also be done with a low vacuum. The lower the proportion of binder, the more favorable the adhesion of the phosphor layer with regard to adhesive strength. Since the binder content can be kept lower with this method than with photo technology methods with high crosslinking components, this is a further advantage of the spraying method.
- 1) Optimal color purity (each color has its place in the grid).
- 2) No irregularities due to washing or multiple coating.
- 3) Better grain distribution (achieving a much finer slurry of the phosphor grains in organic solvents.
- 4) Increasing the area coverage with phosphorus (lowering the proportion of binder, eliminating the networking components).
- 5) No mechanical stress on the remaining luminescent pigments by washing off (the unexposed parts of the entire photosensitive layer).
- 6) Saving of complicated work steps, thereby more economical.
- 7) No high material losses in terms of phosphor consumption (spray material mostly only meets masks with a corresponding edge).
- 8) Fluorescent recovery simple and true to color: cleaning the coating mask and collecting the phosphorus (further cost reduction).
- 9) Better adhesive strength due to spray technology, resulting in higher optical contact between the phosphor layer and the screen plate. Although this results in poorer resolution (the immediate vicinity of excited areas also lighting up), this is advantageous for raster screens, because the entire phosphor surface to be illuminated should shine as a unit and, for example, a sharp image of an electron beam is undesirable.
