Abstract
Description
Verfahren zur Aufrechterhaltung der Konzentration in einer flüssigen Entwicklungslösung, insbesondere für ein nach dem Halbfeuchtverfahren arbeitendes EntwicklungsverfahrenProcess for maintaining the concentration in a liquid development solution, in particular for a development process using the semi-moist process
The invention relates to a method and a device for maintaining the concentration of at least one development-active liquid substance in a liquid developer solution, in particular for a development process of diazo sheet material which works according to the semi-wet process.
When using known aqueous development solutions for the moisture development or semi-moisture development of two-component diazo sheet material, the problem arises that the evaporation of one or more components with relatively high vapor pressures that are present in the solution preferentially pass these components into the gas phase and thus the concentration ratios in of the developer solution. This results in even at normal room temperatures significant and disturbing Konzentra - tion changes. They occur in particular if the development is carried out with a roller applicator in which the roller surfaces are wetted by the developer. When using aqueous development solutions in which active developer substances are dissociated, negative influences due to evaporation can occur after a relatively short operating time. These influences, which occur due to the undesired changes in the physical and chemical properties of the developer solution, can consist in a reduction in the reaction rate, ie in a slower development, in the increase in the required application quantity per unit area of the diazo sheet material to be developed and finally in a color shift, for example of blue to violet for ADE diazo sheet material Ricoh Corp. The developer solutions used essentially contain water, alcohol, a wetting agent and sodium hydroxide solution as active developer substances.
In order to avoid the negative effects described as a result of the evaporation of the more volatile constituents, it is already known to continuously measure the density of the developer solution used in the development process and to meter in the evaporated constituent depending on the density.
In particular, the density was measured in the simplest way with a density spindle, a part of which can pass through a light barrier. The light barrier is connected to a metering valve via an electronic circuit arrangement. This method for density measurement and metering works in a simple manner in such a way that when the light barrier falls below a certain density value, the actuation of a switch is triggered which controls the metering of the evaporated component of the developer solution via the metering valve.
However, this method of density measurement has not proven successful in connection with developer solutions that are used commercially to develop diazo sheet material. Foam formation can occur in this developer, which significantly falsifies the density measurement with a density spindle.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a ver drive to maintain the concentration of at least one development-active liquid substance in a liquid developer solution, in particular for a development process working according to the semi-moist process, according to which the density of the developer solution can be reliably and reliably determined.
This object is achieved according to the invention for a method of the type mentioned at the outset by determining the substance concentration by measuring the viscosity of the developer solution.
It has been found that the viscosity is a good measure of the concentration of the developer solution. The advantage here is that the evaporation process of the components with a relatively high vapor pressure causes a relatively large change in the viscosity of the solution, so that the changes in concentration can be detected correctly with relatively little effort. This measurement method also exploits the discovery that the viscosities of the developers mentioned, which can be used to develop diazo sheet material, are not very temperature-dependent. It is therefore not necessary to compensate for the influence of temperature by special measures.
To carry out this method, a device is used with the features that an electrical viscosity sensor is immersed in the developer solution and that the viscosity sensor has a discriminator is connected to a metering device of the development-active substance. The measured value signals emitted by the viscosity measuring value transmitter are evaluated in the discriminator. When a threshold value in the discriminator is exceeded or undershot, the metering device is actuated in such a way that the desired concentration of the development-active substance is restored.
The development-active liquid substance in the developer solutions provided here can be water, which is development-active in that at least one other component, e.g. Sodium hydroxide solution cannot act in the desired manner if this component does not dissociate sufficiently in water.
In particular, the device is advantageously characterized in that a rotary body driven by an electric motor is provided as the viscosity transducer, which is arranged in a liquid-permeable housing with a closely spaced inner wall, and in that a measuring resistor is arranged in a power supply line to the motor.
This device can be realized with relatively little effort and results in sufficient accuracy for metering the active liquid substance even over a long period of time. The operation of the device is such that the rotating body according to the toughness of the developer solution between it and the inner wall of the housing is present, is braked. The electric motor has to apply a torque dependent on the degree of braking, which in turn causes a proportional current consumption of the electric motor. The voltage drop that is measured by this current in the measuring resistor can be evaluated in the signal-connected discriminator circuit for actuating the metering device.
For this purpose, the device is expediently designed with the features that the measuring resistor is connected to the discriminator via an amplifier, that the output of the discriminator is connected to a first input of an AND gate, and that a pulse generator is connected to a second input of the AND gate is and that the output of the AND gate is connected to a solenoid valve which is arranged in the outlet line of a reservoir of the development-active substance.
With this device it is achieved in a particularly expedient manner that the liquid substance to be metered in is periodically fed into the developer solution through the solenoid valve, since the solenoid valve is fed in pulses by the astable multivibrator. The metering rate depends. for this purpose from the output signal of the discriminator a b , in that this output signal and the signal emitted by the astable multivibrator are fed into the AND gate. The discriminator only emits a signal when the amplified measurement signal indicates that the concentration of the development-active liquid substance falls below a predetermined minimum value. In this case, about AND gate forwarded the pulses of the astable multivibrator to the solenoid valve, while with sufficient concentration the forwarding of the pulses of the multivibrator is interrupted by the AND gate.
The device is expediently further designed in that a stirrer is arranged next to a point in which a line connected to the metering device opens in a vessel receiving the developer solution into which the development-active substance is metered.
This measure ensures that the metered development-active substance is evenly distributed in the developer solution and that in particular the concentration at the measuring point at which the viscosity sensor is immersed in the developer solution largely corresponds to the concentration in the other volume elements of the developer.
Schließlich zeigt die Einrichtung vorteilhaft das Merkmal, daß der Rotationskörper zylindrisch ausgebildet ist, der unter Freilassung eines ringförmigen Spalts in dem Gehäuse drehbar angeordnet ist, und daß das Gehäuse Zutrittsöffnungen von außen in den ringförmigen Spalt aufweist..Finally, the device advantageously shows the feature that the rotary body is cylindrical, which is rotatably arranged in the housing with the release of an annular gap, and that the housing has access openings from the outside into the annular gap.
With this relatively simple implementation of the viscosity sensor, an accurate measurement is achieved, inter alia, in that the Developer solution has access to the annular gap, in which a defined amount of developer is contained, so that the measurement can take place under defined conditions.
An embodiment of the device according to the invention is described below with reference to a drawing with three figures:

In Fig. 1, a measuring head of the viscosity sensor is designated 1. It consists of a cylindrical rotating body 2, which is arranged concentrically in a likewise cylindrical housing 3, so that an annular gap 4 is formed between the rotating body and the housing. The rotating body is mounted on a
The measuring head is immersed in the
From Fig. 2 it can be seen that a measuring resistor 11 is switched on in the power supply lines 7 of the electric motor 6. The electric motor lying in series with the measuring resistor is fed by a voltage source connected to the connecting terminals L2.
To take the measured value signal, there are connections of an amplifier 13 at both ends of the measuring resistor. The amplifier is designed as a DC voltage measuring amplifier since there is a DC voltage at the connection terminals 12.
Lines lead from the output of the DC voltage measuring amplifier to a

- For measurement, the electric motor 6, which is a direct current motor and functions as a measuring motor, is connected to a voltage source, not shown, which is connected to the connection terminals 12. The amount of current flowing through the electric motor, which is a measure of the viscosity and at the same time a measure of the density of the developer solution, is ge as a voltage drop across the measuring resistor 11 measure up. This measured value signal, which occurs as a voltage, is fed into the DC voltage measuring amplifier 13, so that a proportional voltage arises at the output of the amplifier, which voltage can be easily processed further. This voltage is fed into the
discriminator 14. The threshold value of thediscriminator 14 is set so that the output 14a of the discriminator emits a first specific signal (eg L signal) as long as the developer solution is approximately fresh and emits a second specific signal (H signal) when the viscosity of the developer solution is above a predetermined value has risen. - The specification of the threshold value of the discriminator takes into account which developer solution it is.
Since an output of the discriminator and the output of the
If liquid substance is metered through the outlet opening 22 of the line 19, which is a downpipe, to the
The entire metering process continues until the developer solution has reached the viscosity of an approximately fresh developer solution.
Instead of only one
