Claims (5)

1. Reclining device for a piece of seating furniture, which is arranged underneath the seat and fitted to the underframe of the piece of seating furniture and in which
- the seat support (1) is mounted to be pivotable about a horizontal axis (2) in the region of the front edge of the seat
- in the region towards the centre of the seat, a further bearing (8a) is provided for the arm of a backrest support (16) in the form of an angle lever, and
- at least one mechanical spring element is provided, the pre-tension of which is adjustable by means of an adjusting element (7) and which transmits the loading by the user to the underframe,

characterised in that the reclining device consists of
- a casing (3) which comprises the bearing (2a) for the axis (2) of the seat support (1) and the bearing (8a) for the axis (8b) of the backrest support arm (8), and a locking box (19) with two horizontally guided, springloaded locking bolts (11), and a bush bearing in the form of a threaded eye (3a) for the adjusting element (7), as well as an unlocking bar (12) which acts on the locking bolts (11) and can be moved up and down by means of an actuating lever (13),
- several tension springs (5b, 5c), of which the spring force, with support on the casing (3), acts on the seat support (1) against the loading by the user, a part of the tension springs (5c) being suspended on a strip (24, 25) which can be moved via the adjusting element (7) from outside the casing (3) in order to adjust the pre-tension of the suspended tension springs (5c),
-and a metal locking sheet (10) which is at least indirectly joined to the seat support (1) and which has mutually staggered locking holes (28) which are arranged in two adjacent rows and in which the locking bolts (11) can alternately engage,
- the unlocking bar (12) being adjustable by means of the actuating lever (13) into two stable positions, in one of which there is no engagement of a locking bolt and, in the other position, one locking bolt (11) engages in one locking hole (28) of the metal locking sheet (10).
2. Reclining device according to Claim 1, characterised in that the backrest (23) of the piece of seating furniture is rigidly joined to the seat (1a) and the metal locking sheet (10) is fixed to the seat support (1).

Reclining device according to Claim 1, characterised in that a backrest support arm (8), which is pivotable about a further axis (8b) parallel to the axis (2) of the seat support (1) and is joined by means of a connecting member (9) to the seat support (1) in the region remote from the pivot axis and forms the lower arm of the backrest support (16), is mounted in the further bearing (8a) and the metal locking sheet (10) is fixed to the end, remote from its axis, of the backrest support arm (8).
4. Reclining device according to one of Claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the seat support (1) has, on its axis (2) at least one, lever (4), the tension springs (5b, 5c) being hung between the end, remote from the axis, of the lever and fixing eyes (6) in the casing (3).
5. Reclining device according to Claim 3, characterised in that the backrest support arm (8) has, on its axis (8b), a lever section (26), the tension springs (5b, 5c) being provided between the end, remote from the axis, of the lever section and the axis (2) of the seat support (1).
