Description
The patent application describes a thermoelectric arrangement for converting heat into electrical energy and for reversibly pumping heat.
Außerdem liegen die Wirkungsgrade der thermoelektrischen Energieumwandlung meist weit unter 10 %.Because of the relatively small thermal forces, the working voltage and the specific electrical power of thermoelectric arrangements are generally only small. A series connection of thermocouples increases the working voltage, but it also increases the space requirement and the series resistance of the thermoelectric arrangements to the same extent. With conventional thermoelectric arrangements, only electrical outputs of up to about 1 watt / cm 3 can be achieved . In addition, the efficiency of thermoelectric energy conversion is usually well below 10%.
Patent application P 25 47 262.2 describes a thermoelectric arrangement in which the heat flow through the legs of a thermocouple flows over such large temperature gradients that the specific thermal conductivity is reduced in the zones with the large temperature gradients. This leads to an increase in effectiveness and, as a result, an improvement in thermoelectric efficiency. A disadvantage of the thermoelectric arrangement according to P 25 47 262.2 is, however, its relatively low working voltage.
The present invention is based on the object of specifying thermoelectric arrangements with large non-stationary temperature gradients, which have high specific electrical powers at significantly higher working voltages. According to the invention, the element legs of a thermocouple are formed from sheets, foils or layers which have the form of strips, disks or rings and are moved mechanically so that they all mechanically touch their surfaces at least at one point and a non-stationary one at this point Form package, which alternately contains thermoelectric p / n and n / p transitions, between which there is a temperature difference, and that an electrical current flows through the non-stationary package perpendicular to the surface of the sheets, foils or layers.
In the non-stationary package, new hot and cold zones constantly come into mechanical and electrical contact with one another. Zones with large temperature gradients are briefly formed in these touch contacts. The mechanical contact of the hot and cold bands, disks and rings moving through the non-stationary package results in greater heat transport than, for example, would be possible through pure heat conduction. In addition, the thickness of the sheets, foils or layers (from which the strips, disks or rings are formed) can be made relatively small, so that the number of thermocouples which are electrically connected in series per centimeter in the non-stationary package is relatively small Finally, it is also possible to make the electrical contact resistance between the sheets, foils or layers in the non-stationary package relatively low by means of a sufficiently high mechanical contact pressure and by electrically connecting several non-stationary packages in parallel. As a consequence of all these factors, specific electrical voltages and powers can be derived from the thermoelectric arrangement according to the invention, which are orders of magnitude larger than in conventional thermoelectric generators.
According to the invention, the temperature differences between adjacent n / p and p / n transitions in the non-stationary package can be generated, for example, by thermoelectrically p- and n-conducting sheets, foils or layers on one side only very briefly using plasma or Radiation are heated, and that the non-stationary package immediately after reaching the highest surface temperature by pressing together the hot or cold sides of the sheets, Sheets or layers are formed.
According to another exemplary embodiment, pairs of thermoelectrically p- and n-conducting sheets, foils or layers, which are in pairs at different temperatures, are brought together in one place to form the non-stationary package.
Since the electric current flows perpendicular to the surface of the sheets, foils or layers through the non-stationary package, a magnetic force which the sheets generate can be generated by a magnetic field which is applied perpendicular to the direction of the electric current and perpendicular to the direction of movement of the layers , Films or layers are moved through the non-stationary package, or their movement is supported. The magnetic field can be generated by a permanent magnet. However, it can also be generated by an electromagnet that is excited by means of the electric current that also flows through the non-stationary package. Instead of this "main-circuit motor" circuit, the electromagnet can also be operated in a "shunt-motor" circuit by only branching off a part of the current to excite the electromagnet. The motor effect of this arrangement (in relation to friction) is optimal if you make the thickness of the sheets, foils or layers so large that the sum of the electrical path resistances perpendicular through the sheets, foils or layers in the non-stationary package is about as large as the sum of all contact resistances.
The thermoelectric arrangements according to the invention can be used advantageously for converting heat into electrical energy. Because of their high power density, they are suitable as generators for vehicles as well as for power plants of different sizes.
However, they can also be used as heat pumps for cooling and reversible heating by supplying electrical power via the Peltier effect use. The electrical current through the non-stationary packet generates heat absorption, ie cooling, at the transition n → p (ie with the electron flow p → n).
When operating the thermoelectric arrangement according to the invention as a generator and heat pump, efforts will generally be made to limit the mechanical friction between the sheets, foils or layers within the non-stationary package to an unavoidable minimum. However, the thermoelectric arrangement of the. Also use the invention to convert mechanical energy (e.g. hydropower) into frictional heat in a non-stationary package, which in turn is converted into electrical energy. Temperatures> 1,000 ° C can be generated in a non-stationary package using friction. As a result, mechanical energy can be converted to removable electrical energy with efficiency> 50%.
Since the element legs of the thermoelectric arrangement are formed by sheets, foils or layers which have the shape of moving strips, disks or rings, their material - in addition to good electrical conductivity - must also have mechanical strength and ductility. Metals and alloys have the best properties in this regard.
However, it can also be used as an element leg with success. use, discs or rings, which are coated on one or both sides with layers of thermoelectric p- or n-type material, which would not be ductile enough by itself.
Blei, Zinn, Indium, Wismut u.a.In order to reduce the mechanical friction and above all to reduce the unavoidable mechanical wear and tear of the sheets, foils or layers moving through the non-stationary package, the surfaces sliding on one another can be coated with a thin film - Interface lubricant must be coated. Materials with a so-called "layer lattice structure", such as, for example, graphite, MoS 2 , TiTe, etc. or layers of so-called "bearing metals", such as, for example, lead, tin, indium, bismuth, etc., are particularly suitable for this
Since the zones with the large temperature gradients only extend over very small distances, it is possible to drop the temperature differences within the thickness of an interface lubricating film. You can use two different boundary surface lubricants for each two adjacent double surfaces sliding on each other, which have a high thermal force against each other, such as Pr 2 O 3 with WS e 2 , La 2 0 3 with WS 2 etc. So that these lubricating films are not destroyed by friction , they are continuously fed to the sliding surfaces in very small quantities.
Since the electrical contact formation between the sheets, foils or layers sliding on one another in the non-stationary package is fundamentally a statistical process; it may be useful to connect an electrical capacitor in parallel with the non-stationary package. In FIG. 1 there are 1 thermoelectric p-type sheets made of chromium nickel (87.5% Ni + 12; 5% Cr) and 2 thermoelectric n-type sheets made of thermoconstantan (60% Cu + 40% Ni). All sheets are in the form of strips with a thickness of 0.5 mm and a width of 5 cm, which move at a
In FIG. 2 there are 1 iron strips and 2 nickel strips with a width of 3 cm and a thickness of 0.1 mm. In FIG. 3, 1 is a band made of chrome nickel (87.5% Ni + 12.5% Cr) with a thickness of 0.5 mm. 2 is a nickel tape with a thickness of 1 mm. In FIG. 4b, 1 is a p + silicon layer of 1.10 -3 cm thick, which is applied to the underside of a circular disk made of
In another variant of
In
In FIG. 6b, 1 is a 1.10 -3 cm thick layer made of the alloy "Pallaplat Pl.us" (95% Pt + 5% Rh) and 2 is a 1.10 -3 thick layer made of the alloy "Pallaplat Minus" (52% Au + 46% Pd + 2% Pt). In FIG. 7b, 1 is a tungsten sheet with a thickness of 0.8 mm. 2 is a tungsten carbide layer with a thickness of 0.2 mm, which is applied to the
