Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a process for the treatment of sewage sludge or sewage sludge ash which contains mineral fertilizer components which are difficult to obtain for plants.
In the treatment of industrial or municipal wastewater in sewage treatment plants, for example the cleaning of organically contaminated wastewater using the activated sludge process, a sewage sludge is the end product, which is usually either burned, thickened or composted with household waste. The value of these sewage sludges as fertilizers is impaired by the fact that the mineral fertilizer components contained in them, especially the phosphate compounds such as iron, aluminum or calcium phosphates, are not fully available to the plants as fertilizers due to their chemical bonding. are, d. that is, the plants are only imperfectly able to absorb these mineral fertilizer components.
The object of the invention is to develop a method which makes it possible to produce high-quality fertilizers from sewage sludge or sewage sludge ash.
This object is achieved in that the sewage sludge or sewage sludge ash is subjected to a high-temperature treatment in the presence of one or more disintegrants, in which the fertilizer components which are not available to plants are converted into those which are available to plants.
By treating the sewage sludge or sewage sludge ash according to the invention with a suitable disintegrating agent, it chemically reacts with the fertilizer component not available to the plants in the course of a high-temperature treatment. that substances are formed which are now available to the plants as fertilizers, it is possible to produce a high-quality thinner from less valuable sewage sludge or sewage sludge ash.
With regard to the phosphate compounds contained in the sewage sludge, such as. B. the iron, calcium and aluminum phosphates are suitable as disintegrants, in particular substances such as Na 2 CO 3 , CaO, Ca (OH) 2 , Mg0 and Mg SO 4 . For example, when Na 2 CO 3 is used as a disintegrant, the corresponding plant-available CaNaPO 4 can be obtained from the poorly plant-available iron, calcium and aluminum phosphates. When using Mg salts as a disintegrant, the readily plant-available Mg (PO 4 ) 2 is formed , while when using Ca0 as a disintegrant, calcium silicosophosphates, which are readily available to the plants, are formed, since the sewage sludge or its ashes always contain a high amount of Si O 2 .
The necessary addition of these disintegrants fluctuates greatly depending on the composition of the sewage sludge or sewage sludge ash and is generally between 5 and 40% based on the mixture. For example, when using a sewage sludge with 22% total P 2 O 5 in the ash, a degree of digestion of 73% is obtained by adding 20% soda; in the case of sludge, on the other hand, with a P 2 O 5 content of 8% in the ashes, 5.7% soda is sufficient for a degree of digestion of 74%.
In the process according to the invention, both sewage sludge and sewage sludge ash can be fed to the high-temperature treatment in the presence of disintegrating agents. Here, sewage sludge ash is to be understood as meaning both the solid residue which arises in the sewage sludge incineration and in the sewage sludge gasification to produce a fuel gas. The treatment of the sewage sludge ash can take place in the melt, preferably in a so-called melting chamber furnace, the mass transfer in the melt being higher than in the solid phase, which leads to a shortening of the reaction times.
It has been shown that the digestion efficiency is greatest at reaction temperatures between 600 and 1400 ° C, preferably between 900 and 1200 ° C.
The high-temperature treatment of the sewage sludge or sewage sludge ash can also be carried out in other furnaces, for example in rotary drum furnaces, rotary tubular furnaces, muffle furnaces or fluidized bed furnaces.
The treatment of the sewage sludge or sewage sludge ash in a fluidized bed furnace, in which all reactants are kept in a highly turbulent state of movement, has proven to be particularly effective. Both the mass and the heat transfer between the reactants is thus large, so that with relatively short residence times (about 2 - 20 sec) can be driven.
Another method is to briquette the sewage sludge ash to be treated with admixture of disintegrant and to mix the briquettes with hot iron slag for high-temperature treatment. The hot slag serves as a source of heat for the chemical. Implementation in the briquette between ash and, for example, soda.
The heat content of the slag is transferred to the briquettes to be digested, so that the supply of external heat can advantageously be dispensed with. Depending on the heat loss de slag, the z. B. due to radiation, up to 0.7 - 0.8 t ash briquettes can be brought to a temperature of about 800 ° C with I t slag.
With this process variant, two environmental combine relevant waste materials with the help of previously unused and therefore lost heat energy to a large extent usable fertilizers that are valuable for agriculture.
- If it is insoluble in water, the disintegrant can already be added during the purification of the waste water; however, it can also be added to the already thickened or flocculated or thermally conditioned sewage sludge later, or it is introduced directly into the high-temperature treatment zone. In sewage treatment plants that are already equipped with an incineration plant for the sewage sludge, it proves to be expedient to additionally introduce the disintegrant into the incineration plant and thus to convert the non-plant-available fertilizer components into plant-available fertilizers on the spot. In this case, the additional investment required to carry out the method according to the invention is particularly low.
