Abstract

The invention relates to a method of hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) and gasification (CHG) of biomass and a system for carrying out this method. Wood or peat waste, algae, residual sludge, food or municipal waste, sewage treatment waste, cellulose waste and mixtures containing organic substances are used as biomass. Biomass is converted into bio-oils, biogas and other raw materials. In the invention, cavitation waves are used on the mixture of biomass and water, whereas water is brought to a supercritical state. Extremely high temperature and pressure occur only on the surface of a solid particle. Temperature and pressure of the remaining fluid remain moderate. Pressure of up to 15 bar is applied to the mixture of biomass and water, and the mixture is heated to a temperature not exceeding 250 °C. This makes possible to carry out HTL and CHG reactions in a continuous mode and use of lower pressure and temperature than used so far. Therefore the necessary equipment is simpler and cheaper.
