Abstract

The proposed methods provide for selective control of charging, launching, selecting the amount of force and/or the direction of the force of the jars using surface digital control devices. One method involves running subsets of jars, or all jars, in a controlled manner and determining the depth of the stuck drill string section by analyzing the behavior or characteristics of the jars that have been fired. Other methods involve the subsequent launch of one or more jars again below the stuck section of the drill string. Other other methods involve selectively firing the jars using digital signals from a surface control device sequentially in time so that their forces meet in a constructive or destructive manner at a given point in the drill string.
