Abstract

A method for manufacturing a smoking article is provided comprising providing a filter component comprising first and second sections that are rotatable relative to one another between two extreme positions. A first section of wrapping material covers the first segment and partially covers the second segment within an overlap region. A second section of wrapping material covers the remainder of the second segment. The first and second sections are adhered to the first and second segments respectively. The first section is not adhered to the plug at the overlap region however. The first section and the filter material are perforated at the overlap region, when the first segment is rotated to the first extreme position so as to form a ventilation orifice configured to provide maximum ventilation at the first extreme position and minimum ventilation at the second extreme position.
