Description
The present invention relates to an adaptable adhesive tape applicator, in particular for dry bonding of window panes in a window frame. Using the applicator, a two-sided adhesive coated tape is applied accurately-positioned on a window frame, wherein the applicator is configured according to the technical requirements for gluing the frame.
Various ways of attaching window panes in frames are known from the prior art: In the case of the currently standard dry glazing, in particular with synthetic windows, the window glass is set in a recess in the window frame for accommodating the pane, blocked and finally attached using prefabricated sealing profiles made from frames or glazing beads with lip seals. The glazing beads are inserted in the base frame in the form of aluminium profiles, before introduction of the inner glazing seal. The advantages of this type of glazing are the ease of mounting associated therewith, the ease of with which a damaged pane can be exchanged, and thus also the resulting cost reduction. However, a pane attached in this way makes only a small contribution, via the blocking, to the total static structure of the window, thus, based on static considerations, the frame plays a significantly higher role and must therefore also be designed to be correspondingly stronger, which is a disadvantage for optical and cost reasons.
For other ways of glazing, wet glazing involves various processing techniques. In one technique, the window pane is set in the frame on site, and attached and sealed using liquid and/or paste adhesives and sealants. The major disadvantage of this type of attachment is that prefabrication is not possible and thus higher installation effort and higher costs are involved because the window pane must generally be inserted in the frame on site. A further type of wet glazing is so-called "structural glazing", in which window panes are bonded to the frame using elastomer adhesives and sealants at the edge of the panes. Entirely prefabricated "structural glazing" elements are bonded to the substructure on site and, since the conventional frames are omitted, no external attachment or securing elements are visible. In addition to the simplified mounting process and the resultant lower costs, this type of glazing also offers the substantial advantage that the window panes are incorporated as strong static elements in the facade and the forces exerted thereon are spread over the entire bond, which again results in a reduction in the frame structure and thus the quantity of materials and costs. Further, such constructions have higher restoring capabilities, the windows also remain entirely flat for longer and after frequent opening closing, so that maintenance and installation work is thereby reduced. A disadvantage of this type of attachment is the bonding using two-component adhesives, which although enabling an exposed handling time of several minutes for the adhesive in order to finally position the panes, at the same time also requires a certain amount of time for the employed adhesives to harden, and thus also involves a slower production rate. A further bonding variant consists of the use of a two-sided adhesive tape. Such an adhesive tape is fixed in the glazing rebate using the first of the two adhesive sides. This step can be performed during manufacture of the profile frames for reasons of production economy and cost. Before installing the glass pane, the second adhesive side of the tape, which is covered until this point by a release liner, is then released by removing the liner and the glass pane is bonded to the frame using this adhesive tape strip, i.e. a flat bond results via selective mechanical fixing by means of blocks and the glazing bead. This also implies utilisation of the stiffening and thus load-bearing action of the glass as an element in the window, which transfers its rigidity to the frame via the bond and in this way also fulfils a static function. At the same time, this type of attachment also enables a substantial reduction in the steel reinforcement of the profile and the use of significantly slimmer leaf frames, which again gives a larger glazing area and makes better use of solar heat. Further advantages are greater airtightness as well as improved thermal and acoustic installation and greater protection against break-ins.
The present invention relates to an adhesive tape application device which facilitates application of a two-sided adhesive tape, which is covered by a release liner, wound on a roll and having one adhesive side, onto a substrate to be bonded and thereby simultaneously meets the specific conditions of the substrate - described below, although not exclusively, for the case of a window frame profile. Adhesive tape dispensing devices are known in a variety of designs. Document DE 10 2011 079 544 A1 discloses, for example, an adhesive tape applicator according to the preamble of claim 1.
The devices usually consist of a housing in which an adhesive tape roll is located, comprising a pressure roll by means of which, during dispensing, the adhesive tape is pressed onto the substrate, and a cutting unit to sever the pieces of adhesive tape used from the rest of the roll located in the device. The special features of the adhesive tape applicator according to the present invention reside in the nature and functioning of the actual application roll if, on the one hand, continuous feeding of the adhesive tape to the profile to be bonded is not possible without great difficulties due to an obstacle or without breaking off and restarting and, on the other hand, in the case of different application angles which may be required for practical working reasons, which the application device may encounter on the workpiece to be bonded. Such an applicator is known neither from existing applications nor from the literature .
The advantages and features of the invention are described in more detail through the accompanying figures:
Figure 1 shows the smooth running application roll (2) which can be axially displaced on its roll axle (3) .
On the head side thereof, the roll is axially delimited against a stop.
On the flange side thereof, a spring (4) presses the application roll (2) against the workpiece (1). The roll axle is attached in an axle holder (5). This can be manually guided, rigidly held or movable by a controller, or can be programmed to move in all spatial axes. The stop flange (7) on the application roll (2) guarantees an invariable edge-bonding application of the tape (6) on the workpiece (1) within the travel of the spring.
According to figure 2, the application roll (2) can also be extended by a marginal flange (8), which ensures any desired distance from the workpiece edge (1), and the application roll (2) can also be set at any angle to the adhesive tape (6) (cf. figure 3), wherein the roll axle and the axis of the spring form a straight line.
The axis of the spring with the spring (4) can however differ from the roll axle (3) axis and, for example, can also lie in the plane of the adhesive tape (6) (see figure 4). This occurs with the help of an application plate (9), which is attached between the stop flange (7) and compression spring (4) and is configured such that it is angled by the required amount to the plane of application of the tape. The application plate (9) can be rigid, so that another plate would be required for each angle, but can also be movable so that it can be set at any angle and then firmly fixed at this angle.
Figure 5 illustrates the case in which, due to an obstacle (10), the unaltered feeding of the adhesive tape (6) is not possible without a collision (see collision line 11). In such a case, the tape fed from a tape feed roll (12) is rotated such that the obstacle (10) is no longer contacted. In this case, the adhesive tape (6) is preferably rotated through 180° with the release liner side facing towards the obstacle (10). In this way, the application roll (2) set at an angle is positioned such that no collision (see collision line 11) occurs with the obstacle.
In figure 6, the application roll (2), illustrated here viewed from the head side, shows the head flange. The head flange is configured such that a defined gap width exists for the adhesive tape (6). Compression of the tape (6) and thus the required pressing is ensured.
Figure 7 shows an oblique view of the application of the adhesive tape (6) with an obstacle (10). Here, the adhesive tape (6) is rotated through 180° from the tape feed roll (12), passes the obstacle (10) without collision and is applied flush with the edge of the workpiece (1).
Finally, figure 8 illustrates the complete application of the bonding of a glass pane (13) in a frame (16) using an adhesive tape (6) and with the help of a glass block (15) and a glazing bead (14).
