Packaging for food

The invention relates to packaging for food, in particular for cream cheese products, soft cheeses, påtés, spreads and the like, comprising a tray-shaped base part, to which a preferably transparent lid, which defines, in regions, a receiving space for the food, can be detachably fixed, the base part comprising, at least in side edge regions which are arranged so as to be opposite one another, side ribs which stick up and are arranged so as to be spaced apart from one another.

Packaging for food, in particular for cream cheese products such as cream cheese rolls or cheese påtés, conventionally comprises a bell-shaped lid which is intended to be detachably connected to a tray-shaped base part in order to connect the lid to the base part again after portions of a food have been removed. For this purpose, a base part is conventionally provided with a peripheral channel in which a congruently formed collar of the lid is intended to be placed in a form-fitting manner. The inserted food is stored within the receiving space so as to be spaced apart from the sides of the bell-shaped lid and consequently may move during handling, which has the disadvantage that the interior walls of the lid become smeared which may lead to an unattractive overall impression of a food which is to be stored at points of sale.

In order to reduce this risk of the interior walls becoming smeared, DE 20 2011 102 576 U1 discloses the provision of inwardly pointing spacers in the lid, for supporting the food which is to be stored in the receiving space, which spacers are formed and arranged such that the inserted food, for example a cream cheese roll, can no longer reach the other regions of the top part of the lid and the side wall regions. Furthermore, this known packaging provides for upwardly projecting retainers to be arranged in the base part, which retainers comprise tips which penetrate for example the cream cheese product from below and stabilise it. In order to receive whey which comes out, the base part can also be surrounded by a peripheral channel.

If the lid is taken off in order for the food to be consumed, the food, for example the cream cheese roll, can be removed in its entirety. However, it is also possible to cut the food into portions using a tool. Afterwards, the lid is intended to be latched back onto the base part and placed in a refrigerator, for example. If the lid is removed, it is possible, however, for the cream cheese roll, for example, to fall from the base part during a careless movement of the packaging. This is disadvantageous. FR 2627167 A1 discloses packaging for food of the type mentioned at the outset. This is also intended to be used in particular for storing cheese. In this case, side ribs are provided which are widely spaced apart and a flat base through which various channels pass in order to ventilate the stored cheese. However, special aids to enable a cheese to be sliced are not provided in this case; in particular, the air-circulation channels do not form clearances which cooperate with the spacing regions between the side ribs.

The object of the present invention is that of providing packaging for a food, in particular for a cream cheese roll, by means of which the food can be held securely, even when the lid is taken off, but which also allows the food to be removed in portions.

In order to achieve this object, the packaging of the type mentioned at the outset is characterised in that base part struts, which are spaced apart from one another, are associated with the side ribs, clearances, for the purpose of slicing the food which is to be stored, being formed owing to the distance between two adjacent side ribs and the distance between adjacent base part struts, in such a way that the clearances between the individual side ribs continue in the region of the base part struts, and therefore the clearances between the individual side ribs and the clearances between the individual base struts align with one another.

Packaging for food is thus provided in which, owing to the upwardly projecting side ribs provided on the side edge regions of the base part, the food is intended to be securely stored even when the lid is taken off, and is intended to be secured against falling out laterally even when being moved carelessly. The clearances ensure that portions of the inserted food can be removed, even using a knife for example. The faces of the side ribs facing towards the food to be stored are preferably curved and therefore, together with the base part struts, which are to be provided on the base part and may also have a correspondingly curved surface, form a curved trough part, in which a cream cheese roll having a circular cross section, for example, can be positioned in an optimal manner. The clearances between the individual side ribs continue in the region of the base part struts, and therefore an inserted cream cheese roll, for example, can be safely cut through by introducing a knife into the mutually aligning clearances. Individual support elements may in turn comprise upwardly projecting retainers which are formed in the manner of a spike, for example. A channel may be provided for storing and removing whey, which channel, in the case of this new packaging however, extends between the base part struts and the side ribs and for example may also in turn discharge into collection troughs provided for example on narrow sides of the packaging, it being possible in turn for the collection troughs to form stacking feet for stacking individual packaging items.

In the drawings, fundamentally like parts are provided with like reference signs. In general, the base part of the packaging (not shown in greater detail) is denoted by 1. This base part 1 has a support surface 2 comprising a peel tab 3 from which a raised edge 4 projects, latching tabs 5 being provided in all of the rounded corners for placing and latching the lid part thereon. Viewed towards the inside, four side ribs 6 are connected to the raised edge 4 and are arranged so as to be spaced apart from one another in the longitudinal direction of the rectangular base part 1, the mutual spacing being selected such that a clearance 7 is formed in each case between adjacent side ribs 6.

Base part struts 8 are formed in the base part 1 between the side ribs 6, which base part struts are also each at a distance from one another, and therefore a clearance 9 is also formed there. As can be seen more clearly from Fig. 2, the clearances 9 between the support elements 8 and the clearances 7 between the side ribs 6 are formed so as to be congruent and to align with one another, such that the clearances 7 between two side ribs 6 and the clearances 9 between two base part struts 8 form a continuous clearance.

As can be seen in particular from Fig. 2, each of the continuous clearances have like spacings in the central region, and therefore identical portions can be cut from the food here. Individual support elements 8 also comprise upwardly pointing retainers 10 which are in the form of a spike.

Overall, packaging comprising a base part 1 is thus provided, in which it is possible to store the food particularly securely owing to the trough-like construction comprising the support elements 8 and the side ribs 6 and the clearances 7, 9 thereof. Owing to the curved form of the side ribs 6 and the base part struts 8, in particular a cream cheese roll is intended to be stored in an optimal manner, as is shown in Fig. 5 using the illustrated radii of curvature 6.1 on the side ribs 6 and the radii of curvature 8.1 on the base part struts 8.

Claims

Packaging for foodstuffs, in particular for fresh food products, processed cheeses, pastries, spreads and the like with a tray-shaped bottom part (1), on which a preferably transparent lid, which delimits a recipient space for food, can be removably secured where the bottom part (1) thereof least includes upwardly extending wall ribs (6) spaced apart in opposite side edge regions, characterized in that the bottom support elements (8) are spaced apart and attached to the wall ribs (6), thereby passing through the gap size between two adjacent wall ribs (6) and through the gap size between adjacent bottom support members (8) are formed cutting slots (7, 9) for cutting the food to be stored in such a way that the cutting slots (7) continue between the individual wall ribs (6) in the region of the bottom support elements (8) so that the cutting slots (7) between the individual wall ribs (6) and cutting slots ne (9) between the individual bottom support elements flush with each other.

Packaging according to claim 1, characterized in that the wall ribs (6) together with the bottom part support elements (8) are formed as a recess.

Packaging according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the wall ribs (6) are curved in cross-section in the wall areas facing the foodstuffs to be stored.

Packaging according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the bottom part support elements (8) comprise curved support surfaces.

Packaging according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that between the wall ribs (8) and the bottom part supporting elements (8) there is provided a channel (11) for receiving liquids such as whey from a product.

Packaging according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that at least two bottom support elements (8) comprise upwards and forwards projections (10) for stabilizing the food to be stored.

Packaging according to any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the bottom part (1) comprises a raised edge (4) on which a circumferential collar of the lid can be mounted and engaged, wherein the wall ribs (6) protrudes upward and is set inward from this raised edge (4).
