Description

The present invention relates to a method for producing a pallet-free packaging unit comprising a plurality of items to be packaged that are stacked in a stack of goods, in which the items to be packaged are stacked such that at least two engagement regions for forks of a forklift truck are formed in at least one stack level, the engagement region of the stack of goods is wrapped with a first film and the stack of goods which is wrapped on one side is turned so that the part of the stack of goods comprising the engagement regions moves downwards. A method of this type is known from DE 26 14 558 and DE 27 02 613, by the present applicant. In this known method, a shrink hood is pulled over the stack of goods as a first film, which hood is subsequently closely fitted to the stack of goods by heat shrinking together with welding to a further plastics film which has been previously placed on the stack of goods. After it is turned, another film shrink hood is pulled over the stack as a second film and likewise is shrunk onto the stack by heat shrinking together with welding to the overlapping regions of the first film. EP 2 036 818, by the applicant, discloses a corresponding method in which two film hoods are respectively pulled over, which hoods are pulled over the stack of goods as stretch hoods. In this case, first and second films are prepared as tubular hoods, and specifically having a circumference that is less than the circumference of the stack of goods. The first hood is first pulled over the stack of goods so as to cover the engagement regions, with a holding layer which has been previously placed on the upper side of the stack of goods being interposed. The stack of goods is then turned.
The second film is pulled over the stack of goods from the opposite side, that is to say what is now the upper side, as a stretch hood.
The problem addressed by the present invention is that of simplifying a generic method.
In respect of this, the present invention proposes a method having the features of claim 1. In this method, the second tubular hood which is pulled over the stack of goods from the final upper side in the prior art is omitted. The packaging unit produced using the method according to the invention is usually open at the top, that is to say the upper side of the stack of goods is formed in part or in full by the upper side of the last stack level of the packaging unit.
Following tests by the applicant, it has surprisingly become apparent that, for secure binding and in particular for the stability of the packaging unit such that it can be lifted by the forks of a forklift truck, it is not necessary to pull a second tubular hood over the stack of goods from the final upper side and to fit it to the stack of goods.
The tubular hood can be applied by being shrunk against the stack of goods. The method according to the invention is, however, carried out as a hood stretching method in particular, that is to say the film hood is prepared so as to have a circumference that is less than the circumference of the stack of goods, and is first stretched to a circumference that is greater than the circumference of the stack of goods and is finally placed on the stack of goods under resilient circumferential stress.
According to a preferred development of the present invention, the first film is pulled substantially over the entirety of the side surfaces of the stack of goods. On the completed, that is to say turned, stack of goods, the first film accordingly extends as far as the upper side thereof, and is in contact with the top surface of the stack of goods in part. This means that the tubular hood is locked in position to a degree, which ensures that longitudinal stress which is usually introduced into the tubular hood when stretching it over the stack of goods is maintained. In other words, the film preferably lies against the upper side of the stack of goods in the manner of a collar.
According to a preferred development of the present invention, the holding layer is placed on the stack of goods as a film web such that the holding layer extends over the opposing longitudinal sides of the stack of goods at least in part. In this case, this in particular refers to an arrangement of the holding layer on the longitudinal sides which extend parallel to the engagement regions.
In order to increase the strength, it is proposed according to a preferred development that the holding layer be placed on the stack of goods as a short tubular hood in a resiliently circumferentially stretched manner.
In order to simplify the method and to recycle the wrapping of the stack of goods, according to a preferred development of the present invention it is proposed that the holding layer be made of the film material of the first film. The holding layer may be formed as a double layer.
Preferably, the holding layer is made of a film web reinforced with fabric. This may in particular be a film web reinforced with a mesh structure which provides significant grip between the holding layer and the first film, so that a close bond is formed between the holding layer and the film.
Further details and advantages of the present invention emerge from the following description of an embodiment of the present invention in conjunction with the drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a stacked stack of goods before being wrapped with film;
Fig. 2 shows the stack of goods shown in Fig. 1 after a holding layer has been placed thereon;
Fig. 3 shows the stack of goods shown in Fig. 1 and 2 after a first film formed as a hood has been pulled thereover; and
Fig. 4 shows the once-wrapped stack of goods shown in Fig. 3 after it has been turned.
Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of a stack of goods 2 comprising a plurality of items 4 to be packaged which are brought together in one stack level and are intended to be formed by bags of cement in the present case. A plurality of levels of items 4 to be packaged are stacked on top of one another. In the normal layers 5, each stack level has the same number of items 4 to be packaged, so that a substantially cuboid stack of goods 2 is produced. It is only the top layer that is formed as a special layer 7, and comprises fewer items 4 to be packaged, so that engagement regions 10 are formed on the edge of the stack of goods between the upper side 6 and mutually opposing side surfaces 8 and extend in parallel with the side surfaces 8, at right angles to the viewing plane in the figure, more specifically over the entire depth of the stack of goods 2. The width of the engagement regions 10, that is to say the distance between the side surface 8 and the side surface, which extends in parallel therewith, of the top items 4.1; 4.2 to be packaged, is selected such that the forks of a forklift truck can be largely or completely guided under the normal layers 5 of the stack of goods 2 and thus into the engagement regions 10.
The stack of goods 2 that is stacked in this way is for example guided over a conveying path, such as a conveyor belt, towards a hood stretcher (cf. EP 1 013 549). On the way to the hood stretcher, as shown in Fig. 2, a holding layer 12 is placed onto the upper side 6. The length of the holding layer 12 is dimensioned such that a flat web forming the holding layer 12 lies both on the upper side 6 and in part along the side surfaces 8.
In Fig. 2, the holding layer 12 is in a state in which it is loosely placed onto the stack of goods 2. Now, in a hood stretcher, a tubular hood is formed in a manner known per se from a first film 14 by cutting a length of continuously conveyed tubular material, welding this at one end and cutting off a length of said tubular material, which tubular hood is first reefed and resiliency stretched by moving reefing fingers apart in the circumferential direction, and more specifically it is stretched to a circumference which is greater than the area of the stack of goods 2. This transversely stretched tubular hood is now first placed onto the upper side 6 and then onto the side surfaces 8 of the stack of goods 2 by being pulled from the reefing fingers in a relative movement between the reefing fingers and the stack of goods 2 in the vertical direction of the stack of goods 2. Usually, the reefing fingers are lowered for this purpose. Subsequently, the stack of goods 2 is wrapped on one side by the first film 14 and is covered on the top. It is covered by interposing the holding layer 12. The first film 14 is placed on the peripheral walls of the stack of goods 2, that is to say the side surfaces 8, and thus presses the web of the holding layer 12 against the stack of goods 2 (cf. Fig. 3).
The holding layer 12 has dimensions in the depth direction of the stack of goods 2 which substantially correspond to the depth of the stack of goods. In other words, the front and rear edges of the holding layer 12 extend substantially in parallel with the front and rear sides of the stack of goods 2, that is to say the side surfaces which form the periphery of the stack of goods 2 and extend at right angles to the side surfaces provided with reference numeral 8 in the drawings.
After pulling over the first film 14, the stack of goods which is wrapped on one side and is provided with reference numeral 16 is turned, so that a surface which forms the upper side 6 when applying the holding layer 12 and when pulling over the first film 14 now forms the base 18 of the stack of goods 16 and is at the bottom, and an underside 22 moves upwards and forms the top surface of the stack of goods 2 (cf. Fig. 4). In this position, the stack of goods which is wrapped on one side is usually conveyed to and discharged from a hood stretcher over a transport path. The packaging unit is now completed.
