Abstract

The system is in particular for locations where the depth of water is a number of times more than the highest wave amplitudes, and where wave energy may approach from several directions. The system consists of a float 1 connected to an anchor 3 by a mast 2. A guiding device 5 provides the float with freedom to move axially relative to the anchor, and an energy converter 6 attenuates axial, wave generated movements, and converts the attenuation energy to a form of energy able to be transported away. The characteristic features of the invention are that the connection between mast and anchor is a universal joint 4, and that the mast is so long that equilibrium is reached with part of the float above the water and the mast in an angled position. Hereby, it is achieved that the system sways around by itself and attains an optimal direction relative to the movement of the waves, compensates by itself for tidal variations, that the energy can be transported safely to a cable on the bottom of the sea, and that the float may be given its biggest dimension in a direction crosswise to the wave propagation direction, so that a broader wave front may be utilised. <IMAGE>
