Abstract

A preparation for rehydrating monogastric animals, including humans and newborn ruminants who/which are suffering from diarrhoea, which preparation is intended to be mixed in water, comprises a water-binding swelling agent, electrolytes and (a) lactose-cleaving enzyme(s), and, where appropriate, fillers, taste corrigents and dyes. The swelling agent constitutes 20-70% according to weight, preferably 40-43%, the electrolytes constitute 40- 60% according to weight, preferably 53-57%, and the enzyme or enzymes constitute(s) 0.01-5% according to weight, preferably 0.025-0.027%, and the remaining quantity consists of fillers, taste corrigents and/or dyes, with a filler preferably being wheat bran. It has been found to be particularly advantageous for the swelling agent to be plant fibres from the family Plantaginacea, and for the enzyme to be lactase having a pH optimum of between 2 and 10, and for the electrolytes to be a mixture of 2 or more of the substances magnesium oxide, citric acid, potassium chloride, sodium citrate, sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and glucose. An optimal effect is achieved when the fibres are dried, crushed seed husks from Plantago ovata. This results in a composition for rehydrating diarrhoea- affected animals, which can be cured within the course of a very few days, with fatalities and weight loss being avoided. The vast majority of cases of non-infectious diarrhoea in single-stomach animals can be cured in a very few days.

Description

magnesii oxydum, citronsyre, kaliumclorid, natrivun citrat, natriumclorid, natriumbicarbonat og glucose. En optimal virkning opnås når fibrene er tørrede, knuste frøskaller af plantago ovata.magnesii oxydum, citric acid, potassium chloride, sodium citrate, sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and glucose. An optimal effect is obtained when the fibers are dried, crushed seed shells of plantago ovata.

This provides a means of rehydrating diarrhea-infested animals, which can be cured within a few days, thereby avoiding deaths and weight loss. The vast majority of non-infectious diarrhea in one-tailed animals can be cured in a few days.
