Description

i DK 177804 B1
An auxiliary device adapted to be attached to a crutch and a crutch system Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to an auxiliary device adapted to be attached to a crutch, which crutch comprises a rod-like body, an armrest attached at one end of the rod-like body, and a handle remotely placed from the armrest and extending transversely from the rod-like body at a front side of the rod-like body.
Also, the present invention relates to a crutch system.
Background of the Invention
Cratches are designed to help people with walking disabilities, but because of a mix of the design and materials used for the crutch, it makes it difficult for the crutch to lean against objects without falling to the ground. A simple job of leaning down to pickup the crutch from the ground can be a difficult task for people with health conditions.
As today, more inventions have been made to help the crutch stand by it self, but those have more inabilities. Different tripods have been made to make it easier for a cratch to stay standing by itself, but those makes the walking experience clumsy and won’t immediate help the crutch standing as much as needed. Also, some devices which are attached upon the pipe of the cratch are made. Such a fixture is known from DE 202004013099 U1 disclosing a walking stick holder comprising a c-shaped spring clip that fits over the edge of a table top, and a horizontal half-ring mounted on the spring clip, into which the stick fits so that it is supported in a vertical position. However, for supporting the stick in a vertical position the spring clip must be fixed over the edge of a table top which incurs need for adjustment of the spring clip height position on the stick to match the height of the table. Additionally the clip will need to be adjusted to fit the shape and thickness of the table top and further the arrangement relies fully on the presence of a table top.
Thus, with the outlined drawbacks in mind, there is a need for providing a solution that in a simpler and better way facilitates the support of a stick or cratch in a vertical position.
DK 177804 Bi 2
Object of the Invention
The idea of the invention is to make the life easier for people using crutches for everyday use. By using the invention the crutch can stay standing up against the most objects, furniture, walls etc. Also, the hangs on the invention makes it possible for the crutch to hang from the most objects. The size and placement of the invention on the crutch implies no adjustments needed when the invention first is installed.
Description of the Invention
The aforementioned objects of the invention are achieved by an auxiliary device adapted to be attached to a crutch as described in the preamble of claim 1, wherein the device comprises a substantially flat plate provided with an attachment means for attaching the device to the crutch at a rear side of the rod-like body, opposite the front side of the rod-like body, such that the substantially fiat plate can extend along a portion of the rear side of the rod-like body such that the crutch may lean on a support without falling.
In an embodiment of the invention, the plate is made of a flexible material such as hard plastic. An advantage of this embodiment is that the plate will fit tight to the crutch even if the rod-like body of the crutch is curving.
In an embodiment of the invention, the plate is at least partially made of or covered with a high-friction material. An advantage of this embodiment is that the invention may support on objects without sliding and falling down.
In an embodiment of the invention, the device further comprises a flap at a top and/or at a bottom of the plate, which flap extends substantially perpendicular to the direction of extension of the plate. An advantage of this embodiment is that invention may lean against a support because the top-flap reaches longer to the back, making the flap the supporting point. Also, the flaps implies that the crutch may hang down from objects such as a door, a table etc.
In an embodiment of the invention, the plate has a rim made of a high-friction materi al and/or the flap has a rim made of a high-friction material . An advantage of this em- 3 DK 177804 B1 bodiment is that the invention may support on objects without sliding and falling down.
In an embodiment of the invention, the plate has a width at least equal to the width of the rod-like body, preferably a width of at least 4 cm. An advantage of this embodiment is that the creating of a wide width adds a good balance making the crutch capable of standing wcli-balanced.
In an embodiment of the invention, the attachment means comprises a first member adapted to engage with the rear face of the .rod-like body and a corresponding second member adapted to engage with the front face of the rod-like body and to be fastened to the first member. An advantage of this embodiment is that this lock system fastens the invention to the rod-like body with a tight grip to keep the invention at the same position when first fastened.
In an embodiment of the invention, the attachment means are provided at a lower portion of the plate. An advantage of this embodiment is that the invention may be installed on the most crutches because the point of attachment requires a round pipe.
In an embodiment of the invention, the first and second members have engaging portions towards the rod-like body being V-shaped. An advantage of this embodiment is that this implies the attachments becoming universal because the V-shape has the ability to attach the most sizes of the rod-like body.
In an embodiment of the invention, the engaging portions are at least partially covered with a high-friction material. An advantage of this embodiment is dial the high-friction material further implies a tight grip on the rod-like body.
Also, the aforementioned objects of the invention are achieved by a crutch system as described in the preamble of claim 11, wherein the system comprises a crutch and a device according to any of the preceding embodiments.

Hereafter, the invention will be described in connection with drawings illustrating non-limiting examples of an auxiliary device adapted to be attached to a crutch and a crutch system.
Description of the Drawings FIG.i: Shows an auxiliary device from the side.
FIG.2: Shows an auxiliary device from an angled side to front side.
FIG.3: Shows art auxiliary device from the back.
F1G.4: Shows an auxiliary device from an angled upper back side.
FIG.5: Shows an auxiliary device attached to the crutch from the front.
FIG.6: Shows an auxiliary device attached to the crutch from left side.
FIG.7: Shows an auxiliary device attached to the crutch angled from the low front side.
Detailed Description of the Invention
Around the edges 3 of the invention a covering of rubber is attached to make a greater friction between the invention and the supporting object. Also, the top part 1 and the bottom part 2 are covered with rubber around the edges. The material 10 used for the structure (except the rubber-covering 3 and the locks 6 and 7) is a hard but bendable and flexible plastic.
The top part 1 functions as a hook giving the crutch the ability to hang from a door etc. The top part 1 is perpendicular with the crutch to balance the crutch when the top part is leaning against a wail etc. The rubber-edge 4 extends the friction between the supporting object and the invention.
The bottom part 2 functions as balance-part, so when the surface 5 is placed on top of a horizontal surface, the invention will make the crutch balance and hang down from the horizontal surface.
The locks (6 and 7) are made of two parts - one fastened on the invention 8a and 8b, and the others 9a and 9b fasten the crutch to the invention, by bolts. The two parts of the locks (8a, 8b, 9a, and 9b) are V-shaped to make a tight grip around the crutch. Also, 9a and 9b have a rubber covering to add greater friction.
The invention is adjustable to fit the height needed because the locks 6 and 7 can be fastened down the pipe of the crutch as wanted.
5 DK 177804 B1
In reference to F1G.5, FIG.6 and FIG.7 a crutch 15 is showed to illustrate how the invention is fastened to the crutch and how the choice of material makes the invention bend at 12 and makes the surface run parallel to the crutch. In reference to FIG. 1, FIG.2, FIG.3 and FIG.4, the invention is showed with the bend but this will only occur when pressurised by the crutch. When not attached to the crutch, the invention will occur straight from 13 through 14.
