SVEJSNING AF PTFE-DELE
Opfindelsen angår en metode til samling af dele af FTFE (polytetrafluorethylen) hvor delene opvarmes til temperaturer hvor materialet bliver plastisk.

BAGGRUND FOR OPFINDELSEN
PTFE er et materiale med særlige egenskaber såsom lav friktion, lav adhæsion til andre materialer, lav overfladespænding, høj bestandighed mod kemikalier etc.
10 Ved opvarmning af PTFE til temperaturer hvor samling kan finde sted sker der en betydelig volumenforøgelse. Samling af emner af PTFE ved opvarmning betegnes normalt som svejsning. Ofte har emnerne en bestemt form og bestemte tolerancer som det er ønskeligt at bevare efter svejsning. For at opnå en god svejsning må PTFE materialet opvarmes til temperaturer nær smeltepunktet, og der kræves 15 normalt særlige forholdsregler for at undgå blivende deformationer, som må efterbearbejdes.
DE 23 11 096 beskriver en metode til samling af PTFE dele ved at der ved svejsningen tilføres af et mellemliggende lag af et smeltbart bindemiddel 20 indeholdende perflouralkoxypolymer (PFA).
US 6 228 204 Bl beskriver en metode til sammensvejsning af rørender af et PTFE-baseret materiale. Ved sammensvejsningen påføres den ene rørende et bindemiddel af PFA, hvorefter den således preparerede rørende svejses sammen 25 med et andet rørs ende.
I den industrielle udformning svejses PTFE delene almindeligvis i et lige stød, dvs at emnernes samleflader som skal svejses anbringes lige over for hinanden, og der kan anvendes opvarmning ved hjælp af varmeflader i kontakt med PTFE delene 30 som beskrevet i US 4,211,594. Ved stangformede emner dækker varmefladerne også emnernes sider i en vis afstand fra emnernes svejseflader, og varmefladerne får karakter af en lukket ring, som helt eller delvist omgiver svejsezonen. Herved begrænses mulighederne for at gøre emnerne indbyrdes bevægelige som beskrevet i patentet. Som følge heraf udformes varmeringen normalt med et vist 35 overmål så kontakt opnås som følge af termisk udvidelse som beskrevet i patent DK 176821 B1 2 US 4,701,291. Herved kommer varmeringen også til at fungere som en lære der sikrer korrekt indbyrdes position af delene der samles.
Bindemidlet tilføres eksempelvis til svejsefladerne som en særskilt komponent som 5 en film fx samtidig med at emnerne anbringes i svejseværkøjet, og binding eller svejsning opnås ved opvarmning til en temperatur der normalt ligger over smeltetemperaturen for PTFE, typisk mellem 330 og 370 °C, samtidig med at der udøves et vist kontakttryk, typisk mellem 0,1 og 2 MPa. Som følge af volumenændring ved opvarmningen og mekanisk påvirkning af det bløde, 10 opvarmede PTFE materiale forekommer der ofte uønskede, blivende dimensionsændringer omkring svejsezonen. Dette er et problem ved samling af færdige emner og vil normalt kræve efterbearbejdning af området nær svejsningen for at opnå de ønskede dimensioner.
15 RESUMÉ AF OPFINDELSEN
Ved metoden ifølge opfindelsen påføres et bindemiddel på PTFE-emnernes samleflader i en separat, indledende proces ved svejsning inden emnerne samles i en efterfølgende samleproces. Herefter adskilles samlingen igen ved gennem-20 skæring så der opnås komplementære samleflader der er selvcentrerende. Dette gør den efterfølgende samleproces mindre kompliceret, hvilket er en fordel fordi den endelige samling kan foregå på brugsstedet. Ved at etablere en binding mellem PTFE og bindemiddel i en separat, indledende proces kan parametrene i denne indledende proces fastlægges uden hensyn til andre forhold såsom 25 dimensionsbevarelse, og kvaliteten af denne binding kan evt. kontrolleres og godkendes inden PTFE-emnerne efterfølgende samles. Ved den efterfølgende samling kan temperaturen holdes på en tilstrækkelig lav værdi til at PTFE materialet ikke deformeres blivende, eller samlingen kan foregå ved en proces der ikke kræver opvarmning, fx limning.

DETAUERET BESKRIVELSE AF OPFINDELSEN
15 I det følgende beskrives en udførelsesform for opfindelsen hvor de to modstående ender af et stangformet stykke af et PTFE materiale samles til en ring, fx en tætning til montering ved samling på maskinudstyr med en allerede eksisterende tætning der skal udskiftes.
20 Figur 1 viser et stangformet stykke 10 af et PTFE materiale med en længde svarende til den ønskede omkreds af den færdige tætning. Dette stykke kan have et tværsnit som er det endelige i den færdige tætning, eller det kan have form af et stangformet halvfabrikat med et ikke-endeligt tværsnit.
25 Figur 2 viser et endestykke af det stangformede stykke 10 af PTFE materiale i figur 1, med en fri ende som skal prepareres til senere samling ved svejsning.
I figur 3 er vist at et lag af et bindemiddel 20 påført på den frie ende af det stangformede stykke 10 som er anbragt i et varmelegeme 30, som omgiver 30 endestykket 10 i et område omkring enden. Ved hjælp af en trykstang 31 med en passende udformet endeflade udøves et passende tryk på bindemidlet 20.
Trykstangen kan have en plan anlægsflade for bindemidlet, eller anlægsfladen kan være profileret. To endeflader til senere samling kan herved gives komplementære profiler, så de kun passer sammen på en bestemt måde og derved er 35 selvcentrerende.

Figur 4 viser det stangformede stykke 10 efter at bindemidlet 20 er påført, og emnet er afkølet.
5 I figur 5 er vist hvordan de to endestykker 10 med bindemiddel 20 fx PFA-baseret materiale på endefladerne samles i en svejseproces med tilførsel af varme ved hjælp af et varmelegeme 30, som omgiver endestykkerne 10 i et område omkring samlingen. Svejsetemperaturen kan da vælges primært ud fra bindemidlets egenskaber og i mindre grad ud fra smeltetemperaturen af PTFE. Dette er en fordel 10 fordi der kan anvendes et bindemiddel med lavere smeltetemperatur end smeltetemperaturen for PTFE, så der kan anvendes en lavere temperatur ved svejsningen, hvorved dimensionsændringer på grund af opvarmning reduceres eller helt undgås, ligesom der er større sikkerhed for opnåelse af den ønskede styrke og ensartethed af samlingen.

Figur 6 viser en ring der er dannet ud fra det stangformede emne i figur 1 ved ovenstående procestrin som også er vist i figur 2-5.
I en foretrukket udførelsesform svejses den delte tætning, eller det ønskede stykke 20 af tætningen, sammen til en lukket ring. Dette sker ved anvendelse af et egnet bindemiddel som PFA og ved teknik og procesparametre som beskrevet ovenfor.
Efter samlingen afspændes det varmepåvirkede område ved opvarmning og afkøling i henhold til et forud fastlagt temperaturforløb, hvorefter tætningen efterbearbejdes til korrekt tværsnit. Afsluttende adskilles tætningen i svejsningen, 25 hvilket ved anvendelse af PFA som bindemiddel kan foretages ved opvarmning til en temperatur mellem 290 og 320 °C, evt. kombineret med en svag mekanisk påvirkning. Den således præparerede tætning kan senere samles som beskrevet ovenfor ved opvarmning til temperaturer under smeltetemperaturen for PTFE.
30 I en yderligere foretrukket udformning svejses et PTFE profil sammen til en lukket ring, under anvendelse af et egnet bindemiddel som PFA og ved teknik og procesparametre som beskrevet ovenfor. Samlefladerne kan være plane, eller de kan være profilerede med komplementære profiler hvorved svejsearealet øges og sikrer en bestemt indbyrdes position af samlefladerne. Efter samlingen afspændes 35 det varmepåvirkede område ved opvarmning i henhold til et forud fastlagt DK 176821 B1 5 temperaturforløb. Den ønskede tætning fremstilles herefter ved normal bearbejdning ud af det således fremstillede råemne.
Afsluttende adskilles tætningen i svejsningen, hvilket ved anvendelse af PFA som 5 bindemiddel kan foretages ved opvarmning til en temperatur mellem 290 og 320 °C, evt. kombineret med en svag mekanisk påvirkning. Den således præparerede tætning kan senere samles som beskrevet ovenfor ved opvarmning til temperaturer under smeltetemperaturen for PTFE.
10 Fig. 7-9 viser denne metode til preparering af samleflader af PTFE baserede materialer. De to endestykker 10 kan være separate dele, eller de kan være enderne af et stangformet emne som i figur 1. I det følgende tages der udgangspunkt i en eksisterende ringformet tætning. Først overskæres den ringformede tætning (ikke vist), eller der udskæres et stangformet stykke med en 15 længde svarende til den ønskede omkreds af den færdige tætning. Flerefter påføres et egnet bindemiddel 20 ved svejsning, eller ved påstøbning som vist i figur 7-8, så bindemidlet er i fast forbindelse med endefladerne af PTFE delene.
Når enderne er sammensvejset og afkølet kan det være hensigtsmæssigt at 20 foretage en bearbejdning af svejsningen så den opnår korrekte dimensioner, herefter adskilles samlingen ved at der skæres i bindemidlet 20, og der opnås herved et par af preparerede samleflader med bindemiddel på begge flader. Der kan med fordel anvendes et profileret skær, så de dannede endeflader er komplementære. Når således preparerede, komplementære endeflader 25 efterfølgende skal samles som vist i figur 5, vil de være selvcentrerende og kun passe sammen på én bestemt måde. Dette reducerer risikoen for laterale forskydninger omkring samlingsstedet.
Det er muligt at anvende et bindemiddel 20 baseret på PTFE, herunder modificeret 30 PTFE med et indhold af fyldstoffer der gør bindemidlet egnet både til svejsning og til samling ved limning. Som eksempel på den første gruppe af fyldstoffer kan nævnes PFA, mens et højt indhold af kulfibre, metaller og mineraler kan give god styrke ved limning.

Binding eller svejsning kan foregå alene ved det bindemiddel der er efterladt på samlefladerne ved den første proces, eller ved tilførelse af nyt bindemiddel, evt med en anden sammensætning og andre egenskaber. Det nye bindemiddel kan være det samme materiale som det første bindemiddel, men kan også være andre 5 materialer der kan binde til dette. I tilfælde hvor det første bindemiddel er PFA kan det andet bindemiddel være egnede flour-holdige polymerer med lavere smeltetemperatur såsom FEP eller ETFE. I tilfælde hvor det første bindemiddel er PTFE med et højt indhold af fyldstoffer som er egnet til limning kan det andet bindemiddel være en limtype som epoxy eller cyanoakrylat. Parametre for binding 10 eller svejsning af PTFE-delene såsom temperatur og kontaktkraft kan endvidere fastlægges ud fra hensyn til dimensionsbevarelse, så dimensionsændringer og efterbearbejdning mindskes og evt. kan udelades. Dette er specielt fordelagtigt ved samling af tætninger i PTFE-baserede materialer, og andre dele med særlige krav til dimensioner og overfladefinish.

Opfindelsen kan endvidere anvendes i tilfælde, hvor det ønskes at udføre vedligehold ved samling af nye ringformede tætninger af PTFE på eksisterende maskinudstyr, der ellers ville kræve tidkrævende og/eller kostbar adskillelse og demontage af udstyret. Dette kan eksempelvis forekomme i større hydrauliske 20 cylindre, i procesudstyr, eller i forbindelse med olie- og gasudvinding.
Afhængigt af eventuelle deformationer forårsaget af opvarmning kan de varmepåvirkede områder bagefter afspændes ved kontrolleret opvarmning og afkøling i henhold til et forud fastlagt temperaturforløb. Afsluttende efterbearbejdes 25 tætningen til korrekt tværsnit, og samlefladerne kan efterbearbejdes til en bestemt lagtykkelse af bindemiddel. Den således præparerede tætning kan senere samles som beskrevet ovenfor ved opvarmning til temperaturer under smeltetemperaturen for PTFE.

Claims (12)

1. Metode til preparering af et par samleflader af et PTFE-baseret materiale, kendetegnet ved at samlefladerne sammensvejses med et mellemliggende lag af 5 bindemiddel, og at den derved opnåede samling efterfølgende adskilles, så der opnås komplementære samleflader.
2. Metode ifølge krav 1 hvor bindemidlet indeholder perflouralkoxypolymer (PFA).
3. Metode ifølge krav 1 hvor bindemidlet er baseret på PTFE med fyldstoffer der gør bindemidlet egnet til svejsning eller til limning.
4. Metode ifølge krav 1-3 kendetegnet ved at samlingen inden adskillelse bearbejdes til ønskede dimensioner. 15
5. Metode ifølge krav 1-4 kendetegnet ved at samlefladerne ved adskillelsen gives komplementære profiler.
6. Metode til samling af emner af PTFE-baserede materialer kendetegnet ved at 20 samlefladerne prepareres ved en metode i henhold til et hvilket som helst af kravene 1-5 og derefter samles ved limning eller svejsning.
7. Metode ifølge krav 6 kendetegnet ved at samlingen foregår under tilførsel af et andet bindemiddel end PFA, og ved opvarmning til en højeste temperatur mellem 25 150 og 400 °C og efterfølgende afkøling.
8. Metode ifølge krav 6-7 kendetegnet ved at samlingen foregår under tilførsel af et andet bindemiddel end PFA, og ved opvarmning til en højeste temperatur mellem 150 og 300 °C og efterfølgende afkøling. 30
9. Metode ifølge krav 6-8 kendetegnet ved at samlingen foregår alene ved det bindemiddel der findes på samlefladerne, og ved opvarmning til en højeste temperatur mellem 280 og 380 °C og efterfølgende afkøling DK 176821 B1 8
10. Metode ifølge krav 6 eller 9 kendetegnet ved at samlingen foregår ved tilførsel af PFA, og ved opvarmning til en højeste temperatur mellem 280 og 380 °C og efterfølgende afkøling.
11. Metode ifølge krav 9 eller 10, kendetegnet ved at samlingen foregår ved opvarmning til en højeste temperatur mellem 280 og 325 °C og efterfølgende afkøling.
12. Et par endedele med samleflader af et PTFE-baseret materiale og med 10 respektive samleflader til samling ved svejsning, kendetegnet ved at endedelenes samleflader er præpareret ved en metode ifølge krav 1-5.
