A cheese press unit comprises a number of parallel tunnel press tubes 2, into which from one end filled cheese moulds are inserted that have been delivered on a transverse conveyor 24 from a mould filling station 22, whilst moulds emerging from the press tubes at the opposite ends thereof are removed on a corresponding transverse conveyor 26, which takes the moulds to a mould removing station 28, from where the formed cheeses leave the press unit to a conveyor 16, whilst the emptied moulds are carried along a conveyor 18, 20 incorporated in to the unit to the mould filling station 22 for refilling with cheese block blanks arriving from a delivery conveyor 14. The unit is characterised by a simple arrangement for fully automated operation and by the fact that all parts of the unit can be encapsulated in tube tunnels of stainless sheet in order to achieve complete screening of the entire unit. <IMAGE>
