Abstract
Sodium aluminate of the general formula NaAlO2, NaAlO2 x 1.5 H2O and/or NaAlO2 x XH2O is prepared by reaction of hydrated aluminum and/or aluminium hydride with an excess of sodium hydroxide. In this process, first a suspension of the reactants is prepared in a mixing vessel at temperatures of 20 to 120 DEG C and this suspension is passed under pressure through at least one heatable reaction tube connected to the mixing vessel and the sodium aluminate solution obtained is subjected to spray-drying, in which gas outlet temperature of the gas used for the spray-drying is brought to 130 to 190 DEG C.
