Description
In the known production of rayon from viscose, the special process for obtaining high-strength rayon with the help of concentrated sulfuric acid spinning baths has shown the major drawback that operation can only be maintained for a relatively short time, because of extremely strong corrosion the cutting knife is used by the action of the concentrated sulfuric acid, which inevitably leads to an interruption of the work. It has now surprisingly been found that these difficulties can be completely eliminated in one fell swoop and there is no need to fear disruption of operation of the type mentioned if the knives of the device known per se for cutting the thread cable are constantly with water during operation or very dilute aqueous salt and / or acid solutions. This simple measure, which is not obvious in itself because the corrosive effect of dilute acids is usually much greater than that of strong acids, extends the service life of the cutting knife enormously, which results in operational advantages of extraordinary extent. While the knives that have become unusable must be replaced after a very short period of time without rinsing the knives with water or dilute aqueous solutions and the operation has to be shut down for this purpose, which practically means that technical production cannot be carried out, according to the invention the manufacture of rayon can also be used of concentrated sulfuric acid precipitation baths without further ado and with the same success as with the otherwise customary processes.
