Such compounds have, preferably when R- and R 1 are different and in particular when R- is an unsaturated hydrocarbon side chain, such as ethynyl, a strong inhibitory effect on the testicular growth of young male rats.
The method according to the invention offers opposite The process of the main patent has certain technical advantages: While in the implementation of 3-keto compounds always two positional isomers are formed with the organometallic compounds, the are often not easy to separate, the analogous conversion of the 17-keto compounds proceeds sterically almost uniform, so that difficult separations are no longer necessary.
W. I). I). As part of a work on dipole moments of steroids (Journ. Amer. Chem.-Soc, Vol. 07, iij-15, pp. 1901 to 1906) already certain physical properties of two crystal fractions of one. ' communicated, but no information was given about the process by which his test material was produced had been, for the production of which there is no other verifiable information in the specialist literature can be found. The method according to the invention therefore also means compared to the known state technology, which allowed only vague assumptions about the accessibility of the process products unambiguous progress.

Das ausgefällte rohe Umsetzuiigsprodukt wird abgesaugt undneutralgewaschen.in 150 ecm dry ether and 150 ecm dry Dioxane flow in and flush with about 150 ecm dry Ether after. Then the reaction vessel is removed from the cold bath and remains overnight stand at barely any temperature. The next morning the reaction mixture is mixed with 200 ecm of dioxane, decomposed under ice-cooling with water and then with dilute sulfuric acid. The precipitated raw conversion product is sucked off and washed neutral.
Nach wiederholtem Umkristallisieren aus Essigester schmilzt das reine 3b-Methyl-i7a-Äthinylandrostan-3, 17-diol bei 210 bis 2110; [a]D = —30° (Dioxan).After repeated recrystallization from ethyl acetate, the pure 3b-methyl-i7a-ethinylandrostane-3,17-diol melts at 210 to 211 0 ; [a] D = -30 ° (dioxane).

In an analogous manner, 10 g of 3 a-methylandrostan-3-01-17-one are reacted and worked up. After the decomposition with dilute sulfuric acid, ether is extracted, the ether solution washed neutral, shaken with soda solution and washed neutral again. The dried ether solution is evaporated and the remaining residue is dissolved in warm methanol. After prolonged standing in the cold, the 3a-methyl-i7a-äthinylandrostan-3, 17-diol crystallizes out. After recrystallizing twice from hexane-ether, the substance is pure and melts at 163 to 164 0 ; Md = -29.2 ° (dioxane).
