Description
The polyamide film is characterized by excellent mechanical properties and can therefore be used for many purposes. However, their use in electrical engineering as an electrical insulating material has so far been impaired by the sharp decrease in dielectric strength during prolonged storage at certain degrees of humidity. In contrast to other films, the polyamide film, due to its chemical structure, is highly hygroscopic, without showing such great swelling or shrinking capacity as, for example, the hydrate cellulose film. It can be assumed that the water is embedded in the molecular groups and has plasticizer-like effects.
The invention overcomes these disadvantages. According to the invention, the polyamide film is impregnated with insulating varnish, in particular with oil-modified synthetic resin varnish.
The polyamide films treated in this way show only an insignificant decrease in dielectric strength even after prolonged storage in rooms with high levels of humidity. This opens up a new field of application for the film in which it is superior to other films because of its high mechanical strength. The invention also offers economic advantages in that in electrical apparatus and machines, which are impregnated with impregnating varnish against the action of moisture, for which polyamide films according to the invention do not require any additional treatment to improve their properties.
