Tag der Anmeldung: 26. Mai 1952 Bekanntgemacht am 16. Februar 1956Registration date: May 26, 1952. Advertised on February 16, 1956
DEUTSCHES PATENTAMTGERMAN PATENT OFFICE
The previously known optical glasses with a refractive index n a > 1.70 and an Abbe number ν between 42 and 52 either contain large amounts of the expensive tantalum, poisonous beryllium or radioactive thorium, or they showed a tendency to crystallize, e.g. B. the glasses with a high content of cadmium oxide (CdO), or were strongly colored, such. B. the glasses with a high content of tungsten oxide (WO 3 ). According to the invention, however, without using the beryllium and the thorium and using only small amounts of the tantalum, poison-free, non-radioactive and not too expensive colorless glasses of the desired optical position, which are free from the tendency to crystallize, can be achieved if they are used so composed that they are free of BeO and ThO 2 and a maximum of 3 ° / 0 Ta 2 O 5 and from 25 to 38% lanthanum oxide (La 2 O 3), 4 to i8 ° / 0 lead oxide (PbO), 30 to 48% boron trioxide (B 2 O 3 ) and 9 to 30% calcium oxide (CaO), strontium oxide (SrO), barium oxide (BaO) and zinc oxide (ZnO) individually or as a mixture.

Zirconium oxide (ZrO 2 ) can easily be introduced into these glasses in quantities of up to 8.5%, which considerably increases the chemical durability.
The glass can also contain up to 6% silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ).
Im- general, it is desirable to keep the content of the above-mentioned divalent constituents CaO, SrO, BaO and ZnO in total less than 22 ° / 0 since then, the melts are particularly prone to crystallize little.
It is advisable not to let rise 0 Bariumoxydgehalt the above 5 ° /, otherwise inclination is to be feared for crystallization.
If you want refractive indices of around 1.715 and above, it is advisable to allow the La 2 O 3 and PbO content together to be more than 37%.
An exchange of lanthanum oxide to lead oxide in equal proportions with otherwise unchanged glass composition does not change the w ^ value, but the w value decreased by about 0.4 per i ° / 0 exchanged oxide.
The production of the glasses according to the invention is expediently carried out in the Platinum crucible.
.-ιOf course, other glass components can also be used in these glasses, e.g. Introduce in amounts of up to more than 3 ° / 0 · total including tantalum oxide (Ta 2 O 5), without thereby the essence of the invention is affected as alkali oxides, magnesium oxide (MgO), and others. .-ι
The following table shows a number of examples of glasses of the invention on their composition, Z and reduction of their optical position.
