DEUTSCHES PATENTAMTGERMAN PATENT OFFICE
The invention relates to a gas pressure generating charge suitable for use in Firedamp-containing, or gas-containing, mines is suitable and in which the cargo is under development of gases undergoes thermal decomposition without developing a flame. The charge maintains its gas-generating decomposition when ignited. Is only locally limited heating of the cargo takes place. For this purpose, a local heating means is in a pressure-resistant container included, which has a wall that under yields to a certain pressure and the gases into the borehole through a perforated one Blow-out head can escape.
Ladungen,, welche auf Mischungen von Ammoniumchlorid und' Natriumnitrit aufgebautWith explosive devices of the type mentioned, considerable success has been achieved when the thermal decomposable gas-generating mass from a mixture of equimolecular amounts of ammonium chloride and sodium nitrite, which is made up by the incorporation of a small amount of anhydrous Sodium carbonate or magnesium oxide has been stabilized. Etwa 50% dieser Masse wird, wie sich aus theoretischenHowever, masses have the following disadvantages: As a result of the unreacted ammonium chloride is a large amount of smoke is evolved, and this smoke takes a long time to settle. About 50% of this mass will, as can be seen from theoretical
Überlegungen ergibt, in gewöhnliches Kochsalz umgewandelt. Considerations results, converted into common table salt. This makes up about 50% of the charge, which therefore fail as a gas-generating material. Since these masses continue at atmospheric pressure decompose further if they are locally heated to a slightly elevated temperature they tend to decompose at atmospheric pressure if accidental Ignition occurs, and such decomposition at atmospheric pressure leads to the formation of Sticko'xyd. Because the self-sustaining decomposition even in ordinary atmospheric conditions. Printing can take place, it is not allowed in a mine together with explosives for example put together a gunpowder detonator. The mentioned masses are also unstable, when, they get wet.
The invention now proposes a charge generating a thermally 'decomposable gas pressure, which in explosive devices of the
wähnten Art verwendet werden kann und welche die aufgeführten Nachteile nicht besitzt.mentioned type can be used and which does not have the disadvantages listed.
British Patent 431,936 describes, inter alia, an explosive device which consists of a charge which, when ignited, evolves a gas and which is located in a pressurized metal container which contains this charge together with suitable ignition devices, this container being the ones generated Releases gases when a certain pressure is reached and thus causes an explosive effect in the borehole. The charge consists for example of an aqueous solution of ammonium nitrate with or without other ammonium salts and / or urea. However, there are a number of disadvantages when using such aqueous solutions containing ammonium nitrate. It is therefore very desirable to propose solid masses which are based on ammonium nitrate and which are present in a mixture with metal salts which contain water of crystallization in bound form. Such water-containing metal nitrates, which leave a low residue and have a high water content, are magnesium nitrate Mg (NO 3 ), · 6H 2 O, calcium nitrate Ca (NO 3 ) 2 · 4H 2 O, aluminum nitrate Al (NO03 · 9 H 2 O and ferric nitrate Fe (NO 3 ) 3 ■ 9H 2 O. However, calcium nitrate, together with ammonium nitrate, forms a highly hygroscopic eutectic liquid, and ammonium nitrate-ferric nitrate mixtures have poor storage properties.
In British patent specification 570 075, a method for producing burning explosive charges has already been proposed which are suitable for generating a gas pressure and which undergo a self-sustaining conversion at atmospheric pressure. These charges are produced in that a mixture of ammonium nitrate, an oxidizable substance of a chromate compound, which is suitable for making the mixture sensitive, a solid substance which supports the melting of the ammonium nitrate at room temperature, for example magnesium nitrate hexahydrate, is partially fused together and then poured wherein the components are employed in amounts such that the molten charge at a temperature of not more than 115 0 and is preferably not more than iio ° pourable. The amount of magnesium nitrate hexahydrate used in these cargoes is about 10%.
The present invention now relates to a gas pressure generating charge based on ammonium nitrate without a sensitizer for reusable explosive devices, and this charge is characterized in that it consists of powdered ammonium nitrate mixed with a nitrate of the type Mg (NO 3 ) 2 · 6H containing water of crystallization 2 O and Al (NO 3 ) 3 · 9H 2 O and a non-explosive fuel consisting essentially of a dried vegetable carbohydrate, and that the molar ratio of water of hydration to ammonium nitrate is between 1 and 3> preferably between 1.4 and 2.5 and that the organic fuel is present in such an amount that the gases evolved from the charge and heating element consist essentially of water vapor, carbon dioxide and nitrogen.
When calculating the required amount of organic fuel in the mix is to take into account that under the working conditions there is free oxygen for the combustion of any Enclosure must be present, which if necessary with such. Mixture applied and for any separable parts of the chemical heating element and products which induce a displacement under normal circumstances in an enclosed space.
The organic fuel present in the mixture can, for example, consist of wood flour, ground Grains, flours and starches consist and other finely divided forms of dried tissue material of carbohydrate character.

Wenn, wie es gewöhnlich wünschenswert ist, das chemische Heizelement für Untertagebenutzung brauchbar sein soll, muß es ungeeignet sein, selbst eine Gaszündung zu erfahren, und in solchen Fällen ist es wünschenswert, daß die obere Grenze des Molverhältnisses von gebundenem Wasser zu Ammoniumnitrat nicht über 2,5 liegein sollte.depends on. depending on the properties of the metal container, the desired discharge pressure, and in a conventional pressure-resistant container equipped with a disc which ruptures at a pressure of 1890 kg / cm 2 , it is preferred that this limit be no less than about 1.4 Moles of bound water per mole of ammonium nitrate. Care must be taken to prevent damage to the pipe as a result of possible sudden decomposition of the ammonium nitrate. The upper limit is given by the decreasing sensitivity of the mixture to ignition, causing ignition Within the stated limit, the greater the heat and gas pressure developed by a chemical heating element, the greater the molar ratio of bound water to ammonium nitrate, if, as is usually desirable, the chemical heating element If it is to be suitable for underground use, it must be unsuitable to ignite a gas yourself g, and in such cases it is desirable that the upper limit of the molar ratio of bound water to ammonium nitrate should not be more than 2.5.
The electrically operated chemical heating element, which is enclosed with the charge in the explosive device, must be capable of generating at least enough gases to increase the pressure within the pressure-resistant container to 1.40 kg / cm 2 and preferably to over 8 kg / cm 2 .
As an electrically operated chemical heating element that is only suitable for charges above ground is, for example, an electric black powder igniter be used. If the container has a capacity of 680 ecm, can the black powder charge in this detonator is preferably about 4 g. As an electric too actuating element, which can also be used underground, a container of this size can be used be that with an ignition charge of 20 g of a mixture of 83 to 85% guanidine nitrate, 10 to 12% 2, 4-diritroresorcinol is provided, whereby the rest of the mass consists of a mineral oil, vanadium pentoxide, potassium nitrate, triethanolamine, M ethylethylcellulose and asbestos fibers, the quantity of which per component does not exceed 1 ° / o and which is wrapped in a thin, 2 g heavy paperboard with an electric fuse head. Another charge consists of 20 g of a mixture of 60% guanidine nitrate, 3i, 5% potassium persulfate, 8% cupro chloride and VaVo Vaseline that-with an electric Ignition head is wrapped in a thin cardboard tube that weighs 2 g.
The flameless burning gas generating charges according to the invention differ from charges which are built up on mixtures of ammonium chloride and sodium nitrite in that they are not able to sustain their own thermal decomposition through the mass with only local heating of a part thereof at atmospheric pressure so that even if a hot object were to accidentally come into contact with part of such a charge in a mine at atmospheric pressure, no decomposition of the mass would occur in that case. When such a mass is detonated, less smoke is produced, and this smoke is also less persistent than one produced from masses made up of ammonium chloride and sodium nitrite. The gases produced are not objectionable insofar as they are free from toxic or irritating components. The total amount of solid products that are produced is only one-tenth of the amount produced from ammonium chloride-sodium nitrite masses. The developed gaseous and solid constituents are too low in temperature to ignite heavy weather or dust or to cause indirect ignition. The charges according to the invention are subject to self-sustaining decomposition only at pressures above 1.40 kg / cm 2 and preferably above 8 kg / cm 2 .
The cargo according to the invention can be as loose Mass can be used or it can also be placed in a suitable combustible container be in which the heating element is also inserted.
The invention is illustrated in the following examples without, however, being restricted thereto.
A pressure-resistant steel container with a capacity of 680 ecm and an inner diameter of 31.8 mm is closed at its front open end with a disk which is 2.78 mm thick and which bursts at a pressure of 1890 kg / cm 2. At the opposite end of the tube there is an ignition head, and beyond the disc is a gas discharge head. The powdery component of the cargo consists of 170 g of a mixture of 49.2 0 zo magnesium nitrate six hydrate, 38.8 ° / c ammonium nitrate and 12% wood flour, which is wrapped in a waxed, 20 g paper envelope with an outer diameter of 22 , 22 mm. The density of the charge in the whole tube is 0.25 g / cm 3 . The electrically operated heating element, which contains a 20 g charge of one of the two guanidine nitrate-containing masses, is embedded in the mixture.
When the pressure-resistant steel container is provided with the charge and is introduced into the borehole in a known manner and then the ignition occurs, little smoke is generated and the smoke generated is essentially free from toxic and irritating components. It was found that about half of the waxed Paper wrapping is oxidized. In this example only 14 parts of solids are produced, while, when you get the same explosive effect with a mass of ammonium chloride and sodium nitrite wants to achieve, an amount of 280 g is required and from this 140 g of a solid residue is formed will.
