Die Verstärkertechnik hat für Kommandosprechanlagen in Schiffen weitgehend die Verwendung von Wechseisprechanilagen mit Lautsprechern, ermöglicht, jedoch sind die Sprech- und Hörbedingungen an den verschiedenen Kommandostellen sehr unterschiedlich; an einzelnen Stellen, wie z.B. im Maschinenraum, erschweren starke Geräusche die Verständigung mittels Lautsprecher. An Oberdeckstationen, wie z. B. am Bug oder Heck, sind die Sprechbedingungen wetterabhängig; bei Sturm ist oft ein Verkehr nur mit wettersicheren Handapparaten möglich, während bei gutem Wetter ohne Schwierigkeiten ein Wechselsprechverkehr mittels Lautsprecher durchgeführt werden kann.
