DEUTSCHES PATENTAMTGERMAN PATENT OFFICE
Alkali-Aluminiiumsilikaten, besteht. The invention relates to a means that acts as a suspension carrier and stabilizer for ceramic masses of all kinds is suitable and essentially consists of loosened natural silicates, in particular Aluminum silicates or alkali aluminum silicates.
In the ceramics industry, the manufacture and maintenance of suspensions for ceramics plays a role Working crowds play a major role. In particular, in the production of molding compounds, that are processed by turning, substances that have a plasticizing effect and the Make it possible to build up such masses from semi-plastic, lean kaolins and clays. Such Substances should not only improve the processability of the masses, for example on the turntable, but also to increase their dry strength. For such cases, one already has a wide range Attempted to use bentonite or montmorillonite, but with the thixotropy caused by Ben; -tank caused, makes itself noticeable in a disturbing way. The consequence of this is that such masses if they are to be deformed by turning, they become watery and no longer when deformed stand sufficiently secure. Ultimately, this phenomenon is due to the fact that the suspensions that also represent such plastic masses are not sufficiently stable.
The stability of suspensions is also of great importance for the deformation after the Casting process and especially for the wet application of glazes and enamels.

It has been used clay additions for these purposes, but which release their water by firing at temperatures of about 450 0 and thus cause an often undesirable opacity. This phenomenon could be avoided by using bentonite instead of clay, but the thixotropic properties of such glazes and enamels made with bentonite are unpleasantly noticeable in that the slurry cannot run off effectively and the applied mass cannot always be prevented is evenly thick on the surfaces to be coated.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß derartige Schwierig-It has now been found that such difficulties
Chains can be avoided with certainty if the ceramic masses, casting masses, enamels and glazes are used as a means of eliminating or reducing the thixotropic substances, which consist essentially of a natural silicate, which at elevated temperature in preferably aqueous slurry and elevated Pressure treated with alkaline earth metal hydroxide and in this way the starting material is irreversibly loosened to a surprisingly large extent. Particularly natural aluminum silicates, such as kaolin, clay, bentonite or even loam, which have been proven by pressure treatment with alkaline earth hydroxide, preferably with lime, in aqueous dispersion at temperatures above 160 10, have proven to be suitable as starting materials for the agent according to the invention for eliminating or reducing the thixotropy can be loosened to such an extent that their weight per liter compared to the treated state of the starting material is reduced to about Vio. After the treatment, some of the lime bound in the process can also be removed again by extraction with acid, without the loosening being significantly reduced. It is also possible to subject these products to a chemical aftertreatment to achieve special effects, for example to reduce the particle size through an aftertreatment with alkalis.
Surprisingly, it has been shown that these products, even if they are made, for example, from bentonite, do not impart any thixotropic properties to the masses r supplied with them, so that they are ideally suited as plasticizing agents in ceramic rotary masses, where they not only do that Stability of the mass, the deformation, but also the dry strength of the molded objects significantly improve.
The products have proven to be particularly suitable proven as suspension carriers and stabilizers for the wet application of enamels and glazes. They do not cause cloudiness when burning and make the rivers excellent capable of being applied by completely preventing the slurry from running off and ensuring that the The mass adheres to the objects to be coated in a uniform thickness. You hold that other inelastic constituents of the enamels and Glazes in stable suspension, so that errors due to early settling do not occur. The quantities to be used for these purposes are kept within the scope of those that z. B. for Bentonite additives are common. In many cases, however, you get a lower surcharge because the new suspending agents, as already mentioned, are extraordinarily strong loosened state. Of course, it is also possible to use these new pension carriers in connection with such agents known per se, for example together with an untreated one Bentonite, to be used with success and thus to improve its properties noticeably.
