In Gasspürgeräten werden Ventile verwandt, die den Luftstrom steuern und als sogenannte Plättchenventile ausgebildet sind. Das Ventilplättchen wird dabei durch eine Feder gegen einen Dichtungsrand gedrückt. Die Federspannung läßt sich beliebig einstellen, so daß der Öffnungsdruck auf jeden gewünschten Wert reguliert werden kann. Die Ventilplättchen werden dabei aus Glimmerlamellen hergestellt, die aus natürlich gewachsenen ίο Kristallen parallel den Gleitebenen herausgespalten werden. Diese Plättchen sind starr und bei mechanischer Beanspruchung oder bei Wärmebeanspruchung nicht deformierbar. Die Verwendung der Glimmerventile hat den Nachteil, daß bei natürlich gewachsenen Kristallen Fehlstellen auftreten können, so daß die Oberfläche nicht völlig plan ist. Die Folge sind Undichtigkeiten. Die Verwendung von Metallplättchen scheidet aus, da sie nicht völlig starr und meistens formierbar sind und außerdem korrodieren können.In gas detection devices, valves are used that control the air flow and are called so-called Plate valves are formed.
