Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft eine besondere Art der Vorgerbung, durch welche die Häute in einer Weise vorbereitet werden, dafs sie ohne Schaden einer Nachgerbung unter Anwendung starker Brühen unterzogen werden können. Es wurde gefunden, dafs der Zusatz von Naphtalin zu den Gerbbrühen einen Einflufs bei der Vorgerbung dahin ausübt, dafs die Haut geschmeidiger gemacht und ein gleichmäfsiges Eindringen der Gerbstoffe in die Haut gesichert wird.
