Description
Process for tinting and improving the fire of cigars The goodness a cigar is known to - apart of course from the deposit - largely determined by the wrapper, not just the appearance of the cigar but also has an impact on their smoking behavior. So you ask from a good wrapper tobacco an even, spotless shade, when Smoking good smoldering ability and a white burn. The last two properties also have an effect on the taste, because if the combustion is insufficient, the aromas only partly become free and physiologically questionable smoldering products in larger ones Crowd. Tobacco types that have all these properties in common are available not available in such quantities; that the need for wrapper tobacco from it could be covered, and are therefore high in price, which is then still through adversely affects the fact that the processing into the cover sheet form is considerable Brings waste with it. It has therefore long been endeavored to find a way out here to accomplish. So one tries either the natural tobacco wrapper through one to replace artificially prepared leaf or the one that is not sufficient in all points To give cover sheets the missing properties through a special treatment.
It is known to replace the natural tobacco cover sheet with an artificial cover, be it that such a cover is made from inorganic materials such as metal sheets, plaster of paris, water glass and certain types of glass (German patent specification 82 98q.), Be it, that one uses an application compound made of a mixture of finely powdered tobacco and a cellulose ester solution in place of the cover sheet (German Patent 469 3o4), be it that such a casing is made from transparent foils made of cellulose or cellulose derivatives to which oxidizing substances can be added, forms (German Patent 507 748).
It is also known that those with an unsatisfactory appearance To powder cigars with a wrapper. Crystalline, inorganic powders, to which tobacco powder is optionally admixed, can be considered "(German patent specification 276 3g7). Another matting agent is said to be produced by mixing made from tobacco powder with an inorganic carrier such as sand, meal, wherein the carrier body is dusted with an adhesive and then in a mixing drum adding the tobacco powder so that the carrier granules are evenly covered with a thin layer Tobacco powder are surrounded. This matting agent then becomes like any other powder applied to the cigar (German patent specification 64q. 121).
To ensure that these dry matting agents adhere well to the cover sheet To achieve this, it was also proposed to add grinding flour to the tobacco flour, by which the cover sheet is slightly roughened so that the tobacco flour is in was able to fix the small bumps created in this way better. Still has For this reason it was suggested that the cigars to be matted before the usual ones Matting treatment with dry powder to coat with an adhesive film, which if necessary substances that favor the smoldering ability may also be added. can (German Patent 885,674).
Finally, there was a move to spraying the matting agent onto the cigars in a liquid preparation (German patent specification 871 717). According to a method that has become known, from finely ground tobacco, fire control agents, defusing agents and adhesives - z. B. Cellulose adhesives - a by spraying, brushing od. The like. Processable mass are formed, which is to be applied to the smoking product (German Patent 852 362). Another proposal was to spread a suspension of colloidal tobacco, possibly using different types of tobacco, with the addition of spices and an adhesive on cigars (US Pat. No. 2,565,052). The dry powdering of cigars has been practiced on a very large scale. Apart from the inherent disadvantage of this method that the powder rests on the cigar so that it can be rubbed off and wiped off, it is unsatisfactory with those tobacco products that are not only bad in color, but lack sufficient smoldering properties and a white fire. These types of tobacco had to be impregnated in solutions of fire-controlling and fire-improving salts before processing as a cover sheet. This treatment is cumbersome and robs the tobacco of much of its aroma and even more of its substance.
The invention was based on the object of finding a way how both the disadvantage of dry powdering and a disadvantageous pretreatment the tobacco leaf can be avoided as a cover sheet before it is processed, but the cigar still has a uniform color, good glow properties and a white, even fire can be imparted.
To solve this problem, the proposals known per se, to apply a matting agent in liquid preparation to the cigar - what of course a subsequent drying required - assumed. It was as the reason why these proposals had not found their way into practice, recognized the type of matting compounds used here. These were based made up of tobacco powder, to which the appropriate auxiliaries were added. These Naturally, preparations could not bring about the desired effects, since Tobacco powder neither produces white fire nor increases the smoldering ability and because of the defective. Hiding power does not bring about sufficient color improvement.
The method according to the invention works by bypassing the tobacco base with a moist powder, which is made from a precipitate of organic, primarily Herbal dyes are made up of inorganic pigments and by means of a volatile, adhesive-thickened suspending agent is applied to the cigars. According to the invention, this is followed by an after-treatment on - of course after a drying process - with a solution of ethyl cellulose in volatile solvents such as B. alcohols, esters, ketones, ethers, in order to give the applied moist powder sufficient saliva resistance.
It is also known to have cigars in whole or in part with a fine Coating with collodion, which is supposed to prevent the cover sheet from becoming can wind up and. that it softens through the moisture of the mouth (German Patent 8 "7-7). It is also known in the formation of artificial layers from finely ground tobacco mixed with fire control and defusing agents To use cellulose glue, namely methyl cellulose, on cigars. In the same The context of cellulose derivatives is also used in general terms (German patent specification 853 362).
However, it has been shown that from the large group of cellulose derivatives for the present purpose in connection with the moist powder composition according to the invention Only the ethyl cellulose can be used, namely from technical, taste-related and health reasons.
The invention creates a moist powder process for cigars, which is fully satisfied in every respect. It eliminates the need for the dry powder process inherent disadvantages and has opened up the possibility of such as a cover sheet To use types of tobacco that were previously unsuitable for this purpose. Farther is a significant technical advance through the process according to the invention be = in cigar manufacture was founded. This consists in that the operations previously carried out separately - impregnation of the wrapper tobacco, Dry powdering, sorting - can be combined into a single operation, by using the multi-stage invention process by machine in one operation is carried out.
