Description
The invention relates to a fire extinguisher with a carbon dioxide as an extinguishing agent Extinguishing container for extinguishing fires even at very low temperatures.
In fire extinguishing technology, carbon dioxide filled into extinguishing containers is often used as an extinguishing agent, the extinguishing containers either being part of a hand-held fire extinguisher, a mobile fire extinguisher or a stationary fire extinguishing system. Carbonic acid has a relatively high vapor pressure at normal temperatures. B. at 20 ° C about 57 atmospheres and at 0 ° C about 34 atmospheres, so that this vapor pressure at the usual temperatures is by far sufficient to expel the extinguishing agent from the extinguishing container. At a very low temperature, however, the vapor pressure of the carbonic acid becomes relatively low. So it amounts to z. B. at -50 0 C about only 4 atm. In addition, the rapid evaporation of the carbonic acid inside and outside the extinguishing container as a result of the resulting heat consumption cools the container very much, whereby the vapor pressure inside the container is reduced. Accordingly, at low temperatures, because of the then only low vapor pressure, there is no longer any guarantee that the carbonic acid will flow out of the pressure vessel in sufficient quantities and at sufficient speed and that the vessel will be full.

In vielen Fällen, z. As a result, there is also the risk that if a If the liquid carbon dioxide iced up, the vapor pressure was no longer "large enough" when it escapes is to push away the ice particles, so that the outlet opening of the container possibly completely clogged with ice. In many cases, e.g. B. when extinguishing fires on aircraft engines, the possibly at great heights and at very high
ίο niedrigen Temperaturen, z. B. solchen von — 6o° C, notwendig wird, ist es aber gerade erwünscht, daß die Kohlensäure in einem scharfen Strahl, d. h. mit entsprechender Geschwindigkeit, und unbehindert aus den Löschdüsen austritt.ίο low temperatures, e.g. B. those of - 60 ° C, becomes necessary, but it is precisely desirable that the carbonic acid be in a sharp jet, i.e. H. with corresponding speed, and emerges unhindered from the extinguishing nozzles.
According to the invention, the extinguishing container contains from the outset in addition to the carbonic acid as Injected pressurized gas serving as propellant, e.g. B. nitrogen, which ranges between about the freezing temperature and the critical temperature
The use of pressurized gas, for example Air, for pressure vessels containing fire extinguishing agents, is known, but only for fire extinguishing agents of a different composition and quality, d. H. those at normal Temperatures require a special propellant if they are the source of the fire in a sharp Beam and should reach over a greater distance.
The inventive use of pressurized gas in containers filled with carbonic acid are, it is achieved that the fire extinguishing agent even at low temperatures, z. B. those of - 60 ° C, as they occur especially on flights at high altitudes, is still under pressure that the Sufficiently large outflow quantities per unit of time required for effective fire fighting guaranteed and also reduces the risk of lines and nozzles icing up.
The extinguishing container can thus be used with the same amount of extinguishing agent at the source of the fire a smaller one. Degree of filling have, which on the one hand a solvent saving "and on the other hand, it means a weight reduction per extinguishing container, especially for aircraft certain fire extinguishing systems is of great importance. In addition, it is in accordance with the invention filled extinguishing containers possible, the respective container filling in a simple manner to be determined by measuring the pressure and temperature with the container still in operation. This was previously not possible with containers with extinguishing agents of the type mentioned, but rather had to such extinguishing agent container removed for the purpose of determining their degree of filling, for example can be removed from the overall fire extinguishing system of an aircraft and weighed. Another Progress of the invention compared to the known is also that the printing and Temperature curve of the container contents according to the invention with the same effective The amount of extinguishing agent made it possible to reduce the initial filling level and the effect of the additional pressurized gas filling is flatter than with the one consisting only of extinguishing agent, not reduced filling, which means greater security against a Explosion of the pressure vessel is achieved.
