Description

Process for the production of finely divided oxides In the main patent 97q.793 is a process for the production of finely divided oxides by hydrolysis of volatile metal or metalloid compounds, e.g. Silicon tetrachloride, in described by a flame. The process consists in removing the volatile compounds together with gases which burn with water formation, e.g. B. hydrogen or methane, and mixed homogeneously and together with oxygen or oxygen-containing gases be brought to implementation in a flame. The burning gases and the oxygen should be present in such amounts that the water formed for hydrolysis of volatile metal or metalloid compounds is at least sufficient. About the attachment To prevent the oxides formed at the burner opening, according to the main patent a purge gas, such as air, is passed past the burner mouth. By this measure can increase in the production of silicon dioxide from silicon tetrachloride of the oxide formed at the burner opening can be prevented.

In the manufacture of oxides from such volatile compounds, which decompose faster than silicon tetrachloride, it was found that the Use of air as a purge gas in many Cases is not enough to to prevent the oxides from starting at the burner mouth. Surprisingly it was but found that this disadvantage can be avoided when using the purge gas Used hydrogen. If you let out during the implementation of individual nozzles around arranged around the burner, or from a ring nozzle that surrounds the burner opening lying around, hydrogen entering, it turns out that a beard does not take place.

The method of the invention can be used with good success e.g. B. in the decomposition aluminum chloride, titanium chloride or zirconium chloride can be used.

It is known; volatile metal chlorides by containing oxygen Gases decompose at high temperatures, taking in addition to the reaction components still a gas inert to the metal chloride, e.g. B. hydrogen, supplied separately can be. In contrast, it is not the case with the method of the invention an oxidation, but a hydrolysis, in which in certain cases the Hydrogen for a special purpose at a specific point in the apparatus is fed.
