Description
Process for the production of masses for molding objects It is known to convert the hemihydrate of calcium sulfate known under the designation "burnt gypsum" into a plastic mass consisting mainly of calcium alginate by treatment with an aqueous solution of alginates. This process is based on the fact that alginate is made to gel with the aid of soluble or partially soluble calcium salts. The main component here is the alginate, which is converted into a plastic mass by the action of the calcium salt or a mixture of a calcium salt with an inert substance. Such compositions generally contain no more than 0.5 to 0.8 parts of calcium salt per part of alginate. In a known process for the production of impression materials for dental purposes, plaster of paris is used as a coagulant for an alginate solution, the addition of calcium sulfate hemihydrate should practically not be higher than about 0.5 part by weight to z, o part by weight of anhydrous sodium alginate. This process has the disadvantage that it provides a mass which hardens too quickly and has too little plasticity for the intended use.
The present invention is not about plaster of paris to give a greater or lesser hardness, but rather about putting plaster of paris in a roughly transferring rubber-like mass, which is elastic and when drying does not shrink. One can in this way the properties of a mixture of fired Modify plaster of paris and water in such a way that they can be used for various purposes, z. B. for dental, orthopedic and surgical purposes, for various Manufacturing process and as additives. suitable for various building materials is. The invention allows, in particular, the hardening time and the plasticity to regulate the mass at will and a sudden premature hardening of the mass to prevent.
According to the invention, the procedure is that burnt plaster of paris with a Treated aqueous alginate solution, with on 100 parts by weight of calcined gypsum 5o to 7o parts by weight of the aqueous alginate solution are used, which is about -2 to 6 percent by weight dry alginate as well as plaster set retarders and stabilizers contains.
Sodium alginate or potassium alginate can be used as alginates. Mixtures of different alginates can be used with advantage or else Mixtures of polymers of alginates, e.g. B. of sodium alginate, which various Have degrees of polymerization and different viscosities. Mixtures of polymers can be obtained from seaweed and have different viscosities.
The gypsum setting retardants include anhydrous Sodium carbonate or sodium borate, also sodium silicate, sodium lactate, trisodium phosphate and the like.
The preferred stabilizing agent and antioxidant is formaldehyde into consideration that in solution, e.g. B. an approximately 35- to 400% solution applied and also serves as a disinfectant. In addition, others can Substances such as B. dyes, perfumes and the like., The mixtures are incorporated.
The products that can be prepared according to the invention are not to be confused with the known products produced by gelling alginates with coagulants, which consist of pastes which contain at most 0.5 to 0.8 parts of calcium salt per 1 part of alginate. In the present invention, plaster of paris offers the main starting material, which is subjected to a physical-chenvschen transformation and is thereby converted into a rubber-like elastic, non-shrinking mass, which z. B. for 3o to 5o parts of gypsum contains only 1 part of alginate. Example 100 g of baked plaster of paris are mixed with about 60 g of a solution mixture which q. g sodium alginate, 3 g sodium carbonate (anhydrous), 0.5 g sodium borate and 0.02 g formaldehyde solution (35 to 400%). The turn on can z. B. done so that the alginate solution is placed in a bowl and the plaster of paris in small portions z. B. is concentrated with the help of a spatula. The plasticized gypsum mass hardens completely after a few hours at normal room temperature (18'C). A faster hardening can be achieved that the mixture at a slightly higher temperature, z. B. at about 23 ° C, or a little more plaster of paris or a slightly smaller amount of the alginate solution mixture is used. The hardening can be slowed down by the fact that the mixture is at a temperature slightly lower than 18 ° C, e.g. B. at about 15 to 16'C, or a slightly larger amount of the alginate solution mixture or a slightly smaller amount of gypsum is used. The impressions and casts made with such plasticized plaster of paris are practically indefinitely durable. Example 2 To produce the alginate solution, 5 g of sodium alginate, 3.5 g of sodium carbonate (anhydrous), 0.5 g of sodium borate, 0.02 g of formaldehyde solution are used. The rest of the procedure is as in example i.
As was further found, the procedure can also be successful carried out if the plaster of paris is partly replaced by mineral substances such as marble powder, Bentonites, kieselguhr, silica gel and the like, optionally several of these Substances replaced.
It has also been found that, instead of or in addition to alginates, Ethyl-oxyethyl cellulose with the addition of polyglycol, e.g. B. Ethylglykol, as a plasticizer can use. Finally it was found that you can get the antioxidants through can replace anti-gel agents or disinfectants.
You can z. B. a mixture of ethyl oxyethyl cellulose with sodium alginate and, for preparing potassium alginate, this mixture is a setting retarder and add an anti-fermentation agent or disinfectant and mix the thus obtained, e.g. B. thick-footed substance with plaster of paris or mixtures of plaster of paris with additives such as marble powder, bentonite or the like, a plastic and elastic one Make paste that has a relatively long hardening time and especially is suitable for impressions whose plasticity and elasticity are limited in time are, but last a relatively long time. As an alginate one can also benefit here Use mixtures of polymers obtained from seaweed and various react to each other.
Even with the use of substitutes of the type mentioned above for According to the invention, plaster of paris can be produced whose setting time is in the range from = to 60 minutes can be regulated and which not in an undesirable manner suddenly harden. These masses can, for. B. initially the consistency of a light have plastic and elastic pulp, the plasticity of which is about 1 to 5 hours can exist. End products are obtained by drying in the air or by dewatering which show no shrinkage or other undesirable changes in volume. As a result, the precision of the prints is assured, even if these are done after a long time. As a result, it is not necessary to be special To take preservation measures.
When using q.o to 45 parts by weight of a mixture of gypsum with bentonite, marble powder ad. Like. You can instead of about i part by weight Dry alginate Use (in powder form) an equal amount of ethyl oxyethyl cellulose.
